The last 10 years were absolutely tragic...and to have it end like this is even worse. Maybe the sacrafices he made will help to find a cure for these kinds of nervous-system problems...

oh, this caught me off guard-what a shock. he seemed like a wonderful person and had a lot of optimism during his paralysis. God bless him and his family Holly

hopefully his work and memory will push stem cell research in the right direction.

Man, I'm surprised at how crappy this is making me feel. As an actor, I never really thought he was all that great. But what's he's accomplished since his injury is completely inspiring. What a shame he couldn't have at least seen his bill passed and gotten to cast his vote for stem cell research.

rock on superman...

im gonna have to steal this from a friends buddy info
"But most will remember this sad day as the day the proudest, most noble man they ever knew finally fell. For those who loved him -- one who would call him husband, one who would be his pal, or those who would call him son -- this is the darkest day they could ever imagine. They raised him to be a hero: to know the value of sacrifice, to know the value of life. And for those who served with Superman in the protection of all life comes the shock of a failure: the weight of being too late to help. For a city to live, a man had given his all and more. But it's too late. For this is the day that a Superman died." - Superman #75, 1992 (written by Dan Jurgens)

the weight of being too late to help.

Boy, doesn't that sting a bit. So true.

That tribute was sad.. I will remember him most for his courage and strength as well.

Superman was a good movie but he could play a sinister character too. He will be greatly missed.

You can't flip the channel today without seeing something on this. It's too bad that his life ended, but hopefully there can be some good that comes of it. I hope that his foundation becomes the catalyst from which discoveries can be found.

Seconded. Recent personal events have made me a strong believer in the good it will do and it's sad to see one of the biggest advocates will not be able to rally for the cause anymore.

Chad woke me up with this news and I was truly stunned and saddened.

To make a donation or get involved in spinal cord injury advocacy, click here:

We donated $100 in his honor today. May he now be flying again ....

ive seen the hell parkinsons can put people through... my great grandmother had it and one of my grandmothers brothers has it... im pretty much at risk for it

Hopefully his advocacy for the stemcell research will push the scientific frontier onward, discovering cures for spinal injuries, alzheimers, and parkinsons. The scientific community cannot lay idle and be constrained by the governement. The two places the government does not belong is religion and in ventures that may hinder scientific progress. Unfortunatley this is not the case and, being a chemistry/physics major, I fear that eventually due to "ethical" constraints science will ultimately be hurt.

This may be why the loss of Christopher Reeve hurts so much; we have lost a tireless, powerful advocate for science and the well-being of society

Barbara WaWa just had a 20/20 Exclusive (-: on this evening (rather quick, almost to the fact of being morbid), but a well done piece. Lots of info about him, his fight for stem cell, etc.

This news has been upsetting to me all day. I've loved his career -- both film and stage.

Back in the mid-'80's my college took a show to the American College Theatre Festival when the nationals were in Boston. While we were there we drove out to the Williamstown Theatre Festival. Chris was starring in Tennessee Williams' play, Summer and Smoke. I thought he was great in it.

He has a long association with that theatre company. That's where he met his wife. They've got a small tribute up on their Website, if you're interested: http://www.wtfestival.org/news/pr.php?PRID=25

She must have been quite ill when she sang at Messier's ceremony in MSG just recently.
