'SNL' Gaffe Exposes Ashlee Simpson's Extra Help
Is The Singer A Lip-Syncher?

POSTED: 7:50 pm EDT October 24, 2004
UPDATED: 8:15 pm EDT October 24, 2004

NEW YORK -- Ashlee Simpson appeared on "Saturday Night Live" last night, but apparently she wasn't "live" enough.

AP Photo

Simpson was on the NBC comedy show to perform two of her songs.

Her performance of her hit single "Pieces of Me" seemed to go fine. But later, when she tried to perform her new song "Autobiography," something went wrong.

Her band started playing, and Simpson's voice could be heard singing the first lines of "Pieces of Me" again.

Simpson looked momentarily confused as the band plowed ahead and the vocal was quickly silenced.

Simpson made some exaggerated hopping dance moves, then walked offstage. NBC quickly cut to a commercial.

Had the foul-up exposed Simpson as a lip-syncher?

Her record company is blaming a computer glitch for playing "Pieces of Me" instead of some pretaped electronic percussion.

Simpson blamed her band for playing the wrong song.

Ash Simpson has a forum on her website and people are giving it to her. Someone who posts as Ashlee on the site proposes that her band was behind it and they are trying to crash her career or make her look bad. (I would too after seeing what a spoiled brat she is on that tv show she had on MTV). Interesting how the band played on and on after she left, eh?

Anhow her forum is at http://www.ashleesimpsonmusic.com/
under the community tab. The savages are out to get her.

I heard aboUt this and got to thinking aboUt Pink's performance last year on SNL. She sang the first tune, "Trouble", but then lip-synched the second tune, "God is a DJ", very badly. Don't performers "perform" their music anymore?

This is really funny...
...it's also why I hate today's music. It isn't music for music's sake...it's music for money's sake. It's all show, and that's not good. Call me a purist....I don't care, it just isn't right.

Heck, I think if you don't write your own songs or play an instrument then get the hell off the stage. That doesn't even consider those who don't even really sing!! Pathetic.

I bet NBC is loving this, since she is supposed to sing live on Radio Music Awards. I wouldn't be surprised if lots of people to tune in to watch for more carnage. I wouldn't be surprised if she couldn't sing at all

"Exactly," Simpson said. "I feel so bad. My band started playing the wrong song. I didn't know what to do so I thought I'd do a hoe-down."

???? Yeah, anytime I screw up, I figure a hoe-down is a sure fix!

Well, Miss Only-A-Star-Due-To-Her-Famous-Sister-and-Pushy-Pop needs all those synthesizers and such to make her sound good in the studio. We're being mean to her--it would be too costly and heavy to tote those around everywhere! (-:

I can't beleive she is said that. The band obviously started playing the right song as you can see in the clip above. Then the wrong lyrics came on and they quickly changed songs. A real performer would have sung whichever song the band started playing. The truth is she was to embarassed to sing....

Or maybe she can't sing?

Here's her new explanation. I heard this on a replay of MTV's TRL today. MTV is obviously kissing her behind.

Now she states she had to use the guide track on the advice of her doctor so she didn't lose her voice and so she sounded better. She has reflux disease and it irritated her vocal cords, so she used the guide track for the "very first time." (if it was your first time, wouldn't you at least practice a few times to make sure things didn't screw up? With those millions of dollars invested in your image, wouldn't you have better people working behind the scenes to make sure a screw up didn't occur?)

The interviewer then says, "we KNOW on MTV's shows you did NOT lip sync at all so we KNOW you can sing." Ok. That from the people who brought us Milli Vanilli

So the statements about the computer glitch and the band were a total lie to cover up her reflux? Wasn't there a time when performers with swollen or damaged vocal cords TOOK A BREAK AND CANCELLED PERFORMANCES SO THEY COULD PROTECT THEIR PRECIOUS VOICES? I guess her voice was not precious enough to cancel her performance on SNL MWA MWA snicker snicker.

And with all that image training, when the gaffe occurred, she did a HOEDOWN???? That's what millions of dollars of image enhancement will do to you?

PULEASE. Just admit it and end the bleeding. And MTV, stop kissing her rump. You no longer have credibilty. :p

And for all the people who say you can't sing and do strenuous dance at the same time and sound good, just look up Kylie Minogue.

Jimmy Fallon was right. Carson Daly is a complete tool. He just interviewed Ashlee on the Radio Music Awards on a segue into a commercial. His big question to her?

Are your sister Jessica's boobs real? (great question, you putz)

He then talked to her aboUt the SNL incident and she gave the acid reflux/no voice story, and said she has to just brush it off and move on. After seeing this interview I have to wonder though aboUt the Simpson family gene pool. Those girls don't seem to be the brightest crayons in the box.

When it comes to today's music, there are a *real* select few songs I like. And you can bet that none of those songs are the crap that "artists" such as Ashlee Simpson somehow manage to put out.
