I decided to revive this topic because I just saw an ad that can put even the Flonaise ad to shame...
On VH1 Classic, they of course show ads for their parent channel, obviously VH1. Well, the new one of those ads just debuted...it's three cheaply animated cats jumping around to some techno tune. One of the cats is fooling around with a turntable while the other two are lip-synching (Complete with human lips!). As for the song itself, I don't know the title, but it features a male voice saying "Looks good, feels good to me." and "Uh-huh, yeah that's right.".
 Can we say that VH1 is scraping the bottom of the ad idea barrel?

How about that Michalina's Frozen Dinners commercial with the macarena song with dubbed in words, with accompanying yoga lady dancing. Number one- I hate the song and I hate the way the yoga lady sings it. Number two- It gets in your head!

Unfortunately but fortunately, I have not seen both of the ads you mentioned CanesGal and Turby...but I have no doubt that they are bad. Especially if one of them uses the Macarena song...ick!
Edit: Here's a somewhat recent nomination...two words: (in a voice very high on caffeine and sugar) GO YAFFA!!!!

The most annoying commercials out there are any commercials from Time Warner Cable involving Digital Cable or Road Runner. They show them like EVERY TWO SECONDS and it's always the SAME FRICKIN STUFF...gah, it's ANNOYING! I just want to find the tapes of those commercials and take a sledgehammer to them!
Where's the rant smiley when you need it? Oh well, I'll just use this dude instead.....

I must say those RBC Centura commercials were getting pretty annoying too...They'd show the same one over and over agian during commercial breaks when the Hurricanes were playing, I mean I know they're the sponsers, but please have more and better commercials!!!

Those were bad...I'll never forget the first Canes game of the season they showed on Fox (October 11th against Atlanta), and how a RBC Centura ad came on every five minutes. One of two things would be my reaction after the tenth or so ad...
"Yes, I now know you are the new name and sponsor of the arena formerly known as the Entertainment and Sports Arena! Please shut up!"
or...
"You RBC people sure are doing your darndest to make sure we call the arena the RBC and NOT the ESA..."
Those were followed with a...
I still like someone's theory that RBC stands for "Really Bad Canes"...as I said before, I hope that only goes for this past season.
BTW, am I the only one who found it interesting how whenever those RBC ads said "And the proud sponsor of your Carolina Hurricanes!", they showed a picture from one of the two Detroit Stanley Cup final home games...you know, the home games we lost? Makes sense since RBC Centura is based in Toronto...

i know this is supposed to be commercials from hell, but your bud light comment, Jeff O, reminded me of one of my favorites.
it's that bud light commercial where the guy breaks through the wall to steal his neighbor's beer. the woman looks in the fridge and starts screaming because she sees his head in there, and when the guy checks the fridge he starts screaming because the bud light is gone. i must have seen that commercial 1000 times but every time it makes me laugh. :D

Don't these threads always seem to turn to commercials we like? Here I go again....I LOVE the Michelin commercial where the guy in the mini-van is mad cause his Michelin Man bobble-head isn't bobbling. So when he stops at the light he starts shaking the crap out of it only to look over and see the actual Michelin Man in the car next to him looking very disapproving. It cracks me up!

All of the "good commercials" mentioned thus far are indeed funny. My faves out of those are the Bud Light ads about the refrigerator, the crab ("Hello ladies! The ocean is talking, and it is saying...YEOOOOWWWW!!" Something like that... :D), the dog/man acting like he's from Jamaica, the Mini-Fridge robot, and Strongest Man competition; and the Michelin Man bobblehead.
Oh well, we are all just post-padders anyhow. :p
Well, it's not like we have anything better to do between now and the beginning of the 2003-2004 season... :D :p ;)

 I just found out that the ad I described in the post that kicked off this thread is not a one commercial thing...there's a SERIES of them! I just saw an ad featuring a cat adorned like Boy George singing "Karma Chameleon". But, that's not the worst aspect...they actually have a chameleon dancing beside that cat, later accompanied by another cat playing harmonica.
Obviously, somebody at VH1 truly loved this site (http://www.rathergood.com/) just a little too much...

My fav commercial of the moment is the Sprite(?) commercial....a mascot of a basketball team is running to do a trick dunk. He jumps and a guy from the crowd comes up and lays a major block on the trick-dunk, then celebrates it with his friends. "No Easy Baskets" Seems so stupid in principle, but cracks me up every time!

I really liked our "Tough Fans" commercial on FSP, where the guy gets hit with darts, then slams his head in the trash recepticle.
THEN...
I found out all the Fox Sports channels do it. I saw one similar on FSP (Fox Sports Pittsburgh) over Christmas. Oh well, still made me laugh the first few times.

I love the bud light commercials, especially the ones that are on the radio...they're hilarous! I also like the Michelin commercial from last year where the michelin man is working in the factory and the tires keep going by on a conveyor belt and everytime he sees a new tire he smiles and then when it passes by he cries!! It's really not that funny, but it's kinda cute!!

I love those "Real Men of Distinction" ads on the radio. Like the "all you can eat buffet inventor". they are a scream.
I just saw one yesterday about contacts. the man is in the bathroom trying to wet his contacts and his eyes talk to him. That was a funny one to me.
I'm not sure I could narrow the bad commercials down to just one. there are SO many bad ones!

BOTH the TV and radio Hockey Falls ads are brilliant. My favorite of the TV ones is a tie between the ad about the Boston Bruins Stanley Cup team signed jacket being worn into a bar and the ad about Wayne Gretzky being welcomed by the town and his biggest fan ("Dude, he's freaking out the Great One." :D). And, my favorite of the radio ones is a tie between the one where the Hockey Falls guys talk to Gretzky about living in L.A./Hollywood (At one point, Gretzky gets ticked off with them about their not talking about hockey, and they say something like "Dude, you're starting to act like a movie star." :D) and the one where they talk to Barry Melrose about being a "TV star" ("Can we ride in your limo? We can open up the roof window and stick our heads out!" "I told you before, I DON'T HAVE A LIMO!"). Good stuff... :spin:

Thought I would add another set of ads I can't stand...have any of you seen the ads for Direct Insurance? Imagine waking up to the following with nary a sip of java...
(in a real thick southern accent) "HI! I'M JACKIE ADAIR FOR DIRECT INSURANCE!" (Something like that...)
What's even worst about these ads is that there's no escaping them...I'll never forget when my folks and I went to Orlando, FL last year, and every other morning there would be an ad for Direct Insurance on the television when I'd wake up...ARRRRGGGGHH!

Haven't seen that one yet Mona, but I saw a HILARIOUS new "Ah, the power of cheese." ad this morning. Have you guys and gals seen the ad about this pinata at a kid's birthday party filled with cheese? The birthday boy takes the very first whack at the pinata, and the whack is so hard, it sends the pinata flying like a rocket out of the yard and into the sky. A few blocks away, another birthday party is taking place. At this party, a lame magician is performing, causing not only the kids but especially the two dads holding the party getting ready to fall asleep. Suddenly, the pinata comes soaring towards the party, swiping a power line, and causing it to truly become a rocket, and crash into the magician right as he says "And now I'm going to do a disappearing act!" (Something like that.), causing the kids to go wild and after the cheese scattered around. The dads are also in awe, and one of them says...
"Wow...that guy is gifted." (Again, something like that.)
Good stuff... :D

FDA Chastises Glaxo for Misleading Allergy Ads
POSTED: 6:46 a.m. EDT June 25, 2003
WASHINGTON -- The government has ordered a North Carolina-based drug giant to quit running a series of radio and newspaper ads that call the allergy spray Flonase a cost-effective alternative to pricey allergy pills.
The ad campaign urged allergy sufferers to ask their doctor about Flonase, a nasal spray, instead of antihistamine pills like Allegra and Zyrtec. Flonase maker GlaxoSmithKline began the ads shortly after insurance companies raised prices for the pills this spring.
But the Food and Drug Administration says the ads falsely imply that Flonase is fully interchangeable with the other drugs - when in fact, it relieves only nasal symptoms and the pills can relieve itchy allergy-afflicted eyes, too.
Flonase "is neither therapeutically equivalent to the oral antihistamines nor interchangeable with or substitutable for them," the FDA wrote GlaxoSmithKline last week, in a letter posted to the agency's Web site Tuesday.
The ads had already quit running by the time the FDA complained, said Glaxo spokeswoman Lisa Behrens. She said the company thought it had accurately described the differences between Flonase and allergy pills, but that it would "work in compliance with the FDA" in developing future ads.
GlaxoSmithKline has U.S. headquarters in Philadelphia and Research Triangle Park, N.C.

But, WHICH Bowie is most suitable for stopping the invasion of godawful ads? Ziggy Stardust Bowie? Aladdin-Sane Bowie? Thin White Duke Bowie? Major Tom Bowie (From the "Ashes To Ashes" music video)?
Heck, forget choosing just one...the whole lot of Bowies should just be persuaded to form a Bowie Corps. The atrociousness factor certain ads possess might take more than one Bowie for elimination.

The first person, noticing that his sandwich is far superior to his peers, decides to comment "Hey, thats not a Quiznos oven-toasted Philly Cheesesteak sub, is it?"
The second man, looks at his regular sub and replies "No, it isnt"
What? Hes not eating a Quiznos oven-toasted sub? shocking  So he asks "Really? Are you a grown man who likes to suckle on the teats of a wolf?"
cuts to picture of second man in full business attire suckling on the teats of a wolf, and the man responds proudly "Yes....Yes I am"

Then it says "We wasted our $2 million so you won't waste yours.". Good stuff... :D

I guess I'm showing my age, but I thought the Super Bowl halftime, and almost all the commercials were in generally poor taste. I liked the Subway commercial and the donkey/Clydesdale commercial a lot, but the rest were pretty base. Big F to CBS for the Super Bowl sidelights.
Hell of a game though.

I've gotta agree with you, J-man. I can see that the marketing people really do focus in on the younger crowd, (younger then me, anyway!), cause I didn't care for any of the halftime show. Lot of crap... I mean rap, or hippo pop or whatever the heck it's called this week. It's really a shame because I think maybe a few of these performers can actually carry a tune, but chose to "sell out" instead. Kid Rock's duet with Sheryl Crow on "Picture" is the only time I've ever heard him have any talent. But from what I've heard, the music people told him he'd never make it that way and told him instead to sing.... what do you youngin's call his style of music now? Whatever. Apparently he's selling more albums this way. Thank goodness "Picture" ended up on Sheryl's greatest hits CD.

"Jerry Jones" doing backflips while prominent players out of the playoffs sing "Tommorrow"? Instant classic, albeit somewhat disturbing to see Warren Sapp dressed like that. LOL.
ESPN.com summed it up well: "Only the NFL can get you excited about 2005, when there's a good hour and a half left in the season."

Then wed have 2 minutes of ackward silence. Speaking of bananas... seen that Sonic commercial?
Man in car: (to person taking order) Wow, this milkshake, tastes like banana.
Other man: Yeah, very banana-y.
Man: What did you put in here to make it taste so much like bananas?
Woman taking order: Bananas.
Two men exchange blank looks for 10 seconds.
Then the commercial voice proceeds to tell us that Sonic has been so bold as to put bananas in banana shakes. :gasp:
STUUUUUPID!

Both aforementioned ads are INCREDIBLY dumb...normally, I don't let the stupidity/nastiness of certain ads make me quit using products/going to places (Quizno's ads, while weird, haven't stopped me from eating there). BUT, Sonic's is *so* dumb that I cannot help but avoid them currently. Though, my family and I's experience with the service at both the Raleigh and Wake Forest locations have helped in the avoiding of Sonic...
That KFC "kitchen strip" ad certainly must die too...
And even though I posted it in another thread earlier, this (http://www.snickers.fi/include/rytmikypara.mpg) deserves mention here.

If you're a connoisseuir banana milkshakes you're aware that very few places actually make their milkshakes with real banana. As a matter of fact, when we were in Disney and were at the ESPN Club watching one of the games I ordered their banana milkshake thinking that surely they would know how to do it up right. WRONG!! It was, as most are, flavored with some disgusting artificial crap. How hard is it to put a real damn banana in a shake? I'm always afraid to order one if I don't know for sure because that artificial crap is awful and most places will even lie (or their servers just don't know) and tell you there are real bananas when there aren't. I get the ads completely. Glad to know Sonic makes 'em right. :)

I absolutely HATE the Hardees commercial.   They are so stupid. I mute the T.V. everytime they come on. They pick one commercial and show it on every commercial break. After awhile they pick a new commercial and show it over and over and over again.

Sorry, but I still love these guys, even though most hate them. Without naming the company....................

"Dude. Dude. Check one, Dude."
I can't wait for this year's spots to come out for them. LOFL!

Now, I have heard some pretty god-awful things about Hardees, you know, that their kitchen is a cesspool of grime and disease, but hey, I was hungry. Now dont tell anyone, but it was really good!"

THANK YOU. Of all the ads being played to the point of overkill during Canes games (which is, well, all of them ), the Hardee's ones grate on my nerves the most. Especially that one with the dork who seems to enjoy his job of making beef patties a little too much...

It's where he says "Now this beats off" that is scary to me.. Guyute insists that it is "This beats all" because he can translate SC dialect, but I disagree ;)

Well, now, I can tell you that is SHOULD be "this beats all" but I can't attest to what the moron is actually saying as I don't even translate whatever messed up dialect that is! LOL And we all KNOW I'm a hick! ;)

Atleast that's better than Clearly Malnourished Ray who apparently has a very low IQ due to his parents eating large quantities of the UNACCEPTABLE beef patties made by the Ridiculous Angus Beef Man.
It's a vicious cycle.
