I think there needs to be something in btwn. the second and thrid options. I don't think the team will move, but I also don't know that everything will be ducky. i guess it'll depend on what kind of CBA gets worked out

I'm voting for ducky or else I would start crying at work ;)

I voted for ducky too. Except when it comes back we're gonna have a killer powerplay and we'll be the team with the hot goalies! :smoke:

I don't think they'll go bankrupt or move after just one year of absence.
nor do I think everything will come up roses. I think a large amount of STH-base will decide that they want they're money back if we get into October of next year and there's still no deal.
when STH's start dropping out, there goes some "guaranteed money", and that's going to cause some problems. as of right now, everyone's money is still in the hands of the club.

I agree. I think one season is too premature to consider options other than status quo. Management planned for a year so this is no surprise. A disappointment but not a surprise.
Edit: Wait... did I just agree with Guyute.... urp...

I voted that the team will be sold and moved...
...when the NHL comes back I feel confident that we'll have a system in place that would protect markets like this one, and Nashville, and Anaheim, etc, a system that will help us compete against profitable teams like Toronto, Philly, Detroit.
Problem is, in order to get a system that will work for us, we're going to have to wait quite a while. Realistically looking, it's already cost us a season. It has the good possibility of costing us another. After 2 years of hockey do I really think they'll come back in full force again? No.
Don't get me wrong, after a new deal the team will stay here for another 3-5 years. But, barring a Stanley Cup Victory/lengthy playoff run, what is there to bring these fans back, the same fans who were forsaken by the NHL in the first place? Not much. Call me a pessimist, but the way I look at it, the long-term viability of this franchise, especially considering this lockout business, is not very good.
But a guy can hope, can't he?

I'm sure there are more than a few people in Hartford who would like to speak to you about the faith you have in Good Old Peter's words.

I don't understand what the concern is, if they are not payng the players for this season? Since the owners lose so much money every season, seems like them not having to pay the players for a season would help them not lose nearly as much.

And a few down here, too.
Anyone who puts blind faith in Uncle Pete is either stupid or a credulous fool, IMO. The only way that I'll believe he's really interested in keeping the team here is if he actually lands a local investor.

Or if I win one of the Ontario lotteries and then buy into the team ;) .

So please wish to win a big prize, cause you know that is very expensive to keep a NHL-level team currently.
I hope nothing happen with the Hurricanes during the lockout, but i wait that a world-class player come to play with the Canes for low salaries!

Why would he be interested in moving the team elsewhere at this point? He's got (by all accounts) a sweet arena deal and a long lease. If he's not planning to sell the team (which is a different issue), why would he NOT be interested in keeping the team here (presuming the new CBA is something he considers acceptable)?
I can see if an owner decides to sell for whatever reason (it IS his/her investment), but what would moving out of town do for him?

The SAME arguments were made in Hartford. GOP just wanted out. I guess he believes the grass is always greener................

Sorry.. I should have made #3 clearer. What I meant to say was do you think the Canes will stay put and thrive...fan base staying behind themm..etc? I know things will be different with the entire league.. I think the players are in for a rude awakening when contracts are renewed when they actually start playing again.. which will be next fall in my opinion. :eek2:

Next fall a the earliest, I'm afraid.
I don't know what will happen for sure. I don't think we'll go bankrupt during the stoppage because I don't think they'll let that happen to teams. However, IMO, this is taking a HUGE step backwards for hockey in this area and I think it's threatening the long-term feasibility of this team.

But even if one of us North Carolinians wins the lottery, after the government takes their 43% and then the state thakes their penalties for participatinging in "gambling" (which you know they would if we one the Powerball or somthing huge like that). We'd be lucky to break even! :D

That's why my mom plays the Powerball for me. If she wins with numbers that I give her, she claims the prize for me and takes 15% as her cut of the after-tax revenue. :D
