Pale Rider of Apocalypse Riding Into Toy Stores
Wed Apr 16,11:28 AM ET
LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - "And I looked, and behold a pale horse: and his name that sat on him was Death...."
And it was very reasonably priced at the local toy store.
Video game publisher 3DO Co., on Tuesday said it had signed a licensing deal to develop toy action figures based on an upcoming game featuring the biblical "Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse": War, Pestilence, Famine, and Death.
The game, with voice-overs from actors like Tim Curry and former porn star Traci Lords, is a present-day tale featuring the archangel Abaddon battling the plagues embodied by the Horsemen.
The poseable figures will be developed by Stan Winston Creatures, 3DO said.
Winston -- an Academy Awards (news - web sites) winning special effects maker who has done creature effects on films like "Aliens" and "Jurassic Park" -- is a consultant on the game and has already optioned the feature film rights.
Players in the game must seek help of three "chosen" individuals to save the world -- a prostitute, a serial killer and a corrupt politician.
In a statement, 3DO listed among the game's features "incredible gore and destruction effects including dismemberment, realistic and dynamic exit wounds through objects and people, morph animations, and blood splatters."
The gory game will be available in time for the holiday season, the Redwood City, California-based company said.

Oh goody...yet another game for politicians and/or foolish/idiotic parents to focus on in the neverending war to "ban video games".
Y'know, kids playing crap like that wouldn't happen if their parents were smart enough to realize that just because it's a video game doesn't guarantee it's all-ages entertainment. Then again, according to the government, this shouldn't happen nearly as much thanks to the ratings that are there, but are usually ignored by the parents, much like the TV ratings.
Whatever happened to the good old days of simple and GOOD CLEAN fun yet challenging games like the Super Mario Brothers series (Well, up to Super Mario World anyway...IMHO, the Mario games haven't been as good since that.), the Legend of Zelda series (Well, up to Zelda 64: Ocarina of Time. Ever since that, the Zelda games seemed to be aimed at younger audiences as opposed to all ages.), the Sonic the Hedgehog series, and many others? The most violent games I've ever played and ever will play are the Street Fighter and Tekken series. But, those are definitely nothing compared to what has come out in the last few years...
You wanna bet at the rate things are going, parents and/or politicians will eventually protest even the NHL video games, claiming "they're too violent"?

I'm thrilled to see so many games as of late (GTA3, GTAVC, etc..) specifically made for adult gamers. Hell, I'm gonna be 30 this year, and I game more now than I EVER have... and much to shell's dismay, I show no signs of slowing down. lol
Yes, surely there will be lobbyists against these adult games... but what these moronic fools need to realize is that a massive portion of the gaming audience is actually the 21-40 crowd.
It's just like tv, radio, anything really.... if you don't want your kids involved in, it's YOUR job to make sure they're not. It's not the governments job to protect YOUR children. May God help you and them if that's what you're counting on.
personally I'll be looking forward to seeing how this game is.

really.... what could be better than using a hooker, a serial killer, and a politician (notice I didn't use the preceeding adjective. because that applies to ALL politicians)... to 'save' the planet??? and hey, if a little dismemberment occurs along the way...
all the better.

That's exactly what I was trying to say, different tastes aside. Unfortunately, you're always going to have the stupid parent who picks up a Grand Theft Auto game or something similar for their kid, with the notion that "It's a video game, it's ok.". And, that is not how it works...these parents need to quit doing such crap. If parents like that would actually take the time to read ratings AND ESPECIALLY the box itself, we wouldn't hear about stupid lawsuits and such where the kid and/or parents blame the game for something the kid/s did.
While I'm not a fan of games like the GTA series, I am certainly not against others, especially the audience they're intended for playing them...but am sick of games like them constantly making video games the scorn of certain people, mostly because they don't read the label and/or especially and stupidly looking for a scapegoat for something their kid did.
