I got accepted at Chapel Hill last week and I'm planning on going there. Does that mean I can cheer for them without being labeled a bandwagoner or something of that sort? :D

yes, I cheer for all the "traditional" ACC teams once the ACC tournament is over. I don't think I will have the same feelings about Miami, BC, even Florida State, etc., but I'll just have to see. I appreciate great college basketball regardless of who plays it so I just like to see a great final. If that also means an ACC team brings home the title, then even better. I'm not an alumni of any ACC school and I've always been a State fan, but have always been a fan of the conference too, much to the total dismay of my brothers who are in the G33 and SHC camp ;)
This generosity of spirit for all things conference/division does not apply to the NHL. I have no ability to cheer for the TBL (see G33 Castro comment  ).

I'm going to pull for UNC. If they were playing Louisville I wouldn't be able to say that , but being that it's the 2 best teams in the country playing each other, and seeing what Carolina has gone through this year, I have to pull for them against a team like Illinois.
It'll be good to see the good guys of UNC win the big one (Roy, Melvin Scott, Jackie Manuel, Sean May are all good guys I think). And, it would add to the ACC's superiority against our rival basketball conference.
Plus, if UNC wins it all, Jawad, Scott, and Manuel leave because they're seniors, and Marvin, May, McCants, and Felton leave for the NBA. Which is good for the rest of the ACC, and State, especially seeing how vulnerable Duke and Wake are.
But in all seriousness, I can never actively root for a team that only lost 1 game during the season against a (on paper) worse team, if I'm not a fan of that team. Except Duke.

Caught between a rock and a hard place. First off if Illinois wins, they break Duke's record for most wins in a single season, so that leans me to UNC. But it is Carolina with Rashad " If he is still the coach I quit because he is mean" McCants and Sean "Looks like he is storing food in his cheeks for winter" May. Just can't seem to pull for them. And someone asks for us to pull for the ACC one sentence after saying that they could not pull for Duke. Enjoy it Heel fans because next year you guys will finish about 6th or 7th in the league after Williams, Williams, Scott, Manuel, May, Felton, and McCants all leave. And Turby, with Duke just losing Ewing and with McRoberts and Paulus coming in, I don't think they look too vulnerable at all. But I agree Wake does, and if the Pack can replace Hodge's leadership, I can see a battle between them and the Blue Devils for 1st place in the ACC.
Go Refs monday night!!!!!

Duke was vulnerable this year...and ended up winning the ACC Tournament. I think I could be starting point guard for Duke and Coach K could make me a winner...that's how good he is. But, next year, like this year, they'll be more vulnerable to losses like Virginia Tech or Maryland 2x, opening it up for teams like State or Wake to sweep in and win the conference. More vulnerable meaning that other teams can say "Hey, Duke might not win the conference this year!"
I'd say it's almost a given that UNC will lose at least 5 players, 3 of them being Seniors. They can't be near as good next year. Wake seems always on the verge of collapse despite a very good record. The door really is open for some non-traditional champions next year. I can't wait. :D
Personally, I think Jules tried to hard in games this year to do it all himself. Playing smarter and more as a team could be very good for State. No doubt Jules saved some games for State over 4 years, but if guys like Bennerman and Brackman can step it up just a notch or two, it won't be that big of a hit losing him.
Oh and, uh...yeah...Go Heels on Monday.

Whats all this talk of May, Marvin, McCants, and Felton leaving early? I hope they have alittle more sense than that, because honestly I don't see any of them amounting to much in the NBA. But then again the NBA is all about the money, who cares what they do when they get there just show'em the money!
If those guys are are seriously thinking of punching out early, Roy Williams needs to set down and tell them the stories of Tim Duncan vs. Joesph Forte.

Anyone heading over to Chapel Thrill to watch the game at the Dean Dome? It's gonna be so rockin' there... and,
"If the Tar Heels win Monday night’s title game and claim their first NCAA championship since 1993, Chapel Hill police said they except as many as 15,000 to 20,000 fans to descend on Franklin Street for the celebration."
Crazy stuff...

May's stock is as high as it's going to be right now, and Marvin is getting tons of press about being a lottery pick, etc. McCants was very vocal about how much he hates college, so he's most certainly gone...and Felton will only get better with another year of college.
Sense and Carolina players don't go together.
Also, Tommy, no one should accuse you of bandwagoning since you'll be a UNC-CH student. Congratulations, and I'm sorry.

I'm not sure I could ever pull for Dook. But, I pull for all other ACC teams, even State, whenever the Heels are out for the count.
Seriously people, PLEASE back the ACC over the overhyped Illini
so you admit you could never pull for Duke but you ask State fans to pull for UNC-CH? um, sure. also, i would consider it pretty difficult to "overhype" a team with only one loss.
Of you diehard State (or other) fans, is anyone pulling for UNC just cause you're proud that an ACC team is in the final game?
nope.
I got accepted at Chapel Hill last week and I'm planning on going there. Does that mean I can cheer for them without being labeled a bandwagoner or something of that sort?
congrats on the acceptance. it means you are more qualified to cheer for them then 90% of their fans. ;)
i will never, ever, EVER cheer for UNC-CH unless it means something good for the Pack.

Seriously people, PLEASE back the ACC over the overhyped Illini and Big Ten. If anything, because of the following comments said at the Illini's fan board (discovered @ Inside Carolina)...
Even mid-western comments insulting my native state will not make me do that....well I should say should there be another rep from the ACC then I would be upset. Sorry.. ABC!!
I have to add in that in 1983, I had some very good friends that were from Wilmington, they were in a club the weekend before the Final Four and Mr. Jordan was there as well. They all asked him if he would be pulling for the Pack and he said HELL NO!! I rest my case.

If he doesn't go now he could end up being like Julius Hodge. Great junior season, ok senior season. He showed in this tournament that he can be an NBA player. He should go. That'll leave about 4 players on UNC. Letssee...Wes Miller, Damion Grant, Rayshawn Terry, Charlie Everett...your 05-06 Tarheel starting lineup!

Well now that the UNC tradition is back on line somewhat with Roy Williams leading the way, I don't think they'll drop off a great deal. People always said well wait till next year when you don't have whoever and that guy, but every year they are always good and tough, except for the darkages (Matt Doherty).....

Oh my how shortsighted Tarheel fans are. If you remember correctly, Doh's first year the Heels were number one in the country until the infamous Clemson loss. If you also remember correctly this team is made up of Doherty players. So instead of talking crap about the man you better thank your lucky stars that he could recruit as well as he did or the drought would be continuing today instead of the celebration.
Congratulations Roy Williams. You deserve it.
Now lets see if you can win with your players, something you could never do at Kansas.

It was Gut's fault for the 8-20 season, not Doh's. GUt couldn't recruit because he was 128 years old and kids didn't want to play for him. That is why when Brendan graduated and Forte (what an idiot) left. the cupboard was bare. So if you want to blame anyone for Carolina's failings, blame Gut. And before you think I am a Doh defender, I will say that I am a Duke fan and hate all that is light blue except for Roy, and maybe to a certain extent Raymond and Sean.
I just didn't like seeing whiny players (MCCANTS=He was mean to me and I will transfer if you don't fire him) dictate who shold be coach of a team. But unfortunately the spineless AD Dick Baddour caved in to the players and certain disgruntled alumni. John Swofford would never have done that.
All that being said, congrats on the National Championship and enjoy all the spoils that go along with it. The Heels now have 4 the Devils have 3 so I guess Coach K has to go out and win another one.
Next year's competition. 1) UConn=nope...losing Villenueva 2) Illinois=nope losing Head, Powell, probably Brown and Williams, 3)UNC=maybe depending on how many turn pro 4) Wake=nope...always a bridesmaid 5)Michigan St=nope...4 seniors gone 6)Louisville=maybe...but Garcia leaving 7)Kentucky=maybe...losing Hayes and Sparks I believe 8)Syracuse=nope...losing Warrick and McNamara 9) Arizona=maybe...depending on who leaves there as well.

Sean May "I've known for a while that Rashad was going to leave"...with Felton being the most ready, and after May's monster year and tourney, you can be almost assured that the Heels will lose at least 6 players...and maybe 7 if Marvin(he needs to stay one more year) can be swayed by the money.
Picture this Heel fans...Sean May in the post being fed by Quentin Thomas. Think Sean will stay now?

I think anyone can recruit at UNC, and having an elite coach and a national title isn't gonna hurt ... UNC will be fine, and will prolly have May (won't go unless he's a top 10, and he won't be) and Marvin back next season. The ACC will be great again next year, and that's all everyone should care about. Congrats to the Heels and their fans ... I think we're in for another good one next year.

If it had been a quoted reply with "UNC SUCKS" put in the quoted material, then that's one thing--that's funny. But I guarantee that if it had been the other way around and somebody had edited the post of a State fan so that it said GO HEELS or GO DUKE instead of GO STATE, the screaming would be pretty loud and the perpetrator would probably have been banned.
