The database for these boards, all text mind you, was 235 megabytes in size when uncompressed.

There were over 2.75 MILLION records in it.

Moving a large database, and on the real scheme of things this database is pretty small, is ROUGH when you don't have shell access.

Anything that can go wrong during the move will, thank you Mr. Murphy.

And, it's never simple doing these sort of things.

That said, it was an eye opening experience that I hope will not need to happen again for quite a while.

Oh and I like the dancing banana.

Murphy's Law stated "Anything that can possibly go wrong will." There may have not been any real Mr. Murphy, if there was at most it was someone who made that statement and was lucky enough for it to spread and be attributed to him.

Actually, there was a real Mr. Murphy--but his law is not "Anything that can go wrong, will go wrong."

Just out of curiosity, which host did you switch to? I'm using enable currently and need a new one too.

I'll let Caniac answer for this board, but we use behosted.com and have been very happy with them!

I went with Wolfmarsh. Progress-Systems. I have absolutely no complaints so far, and he bent over backwards to help me out with the database move.
