With the pending arrival of "Baby Bechard" coming in a few days, and our list of possible names changing with every passing day, I read this and wondered just WHAT this kid's parents were doing when they came up with his name........................

Wacey Rabbit fastest skater in Top Prospects skills competition

VANCOUVER (CP) - To the scrutinizing eyes of NHL scouts and general managers, size will always be an issue for Wacey Rabbit.

That's why the five-foot-10, 175-pound centre for the Saskatoon Blades needs to impress with his outstanding talent, the way he did at Tuesday's CHL/NHL Top Prospects hockey skills competition. Rabbit won the fastest skater competition, helped his three-man relay team to victory with some tremendous puck-handling and played a big part in Team Davidson's 10-8 triumph over Team Cherry.

"I was hoping just to participate and do well but I kind of surprised myself," said Rabbit. "There's so many players who have speed here. Everyone's a good skater. I'm not the biggest guy so I thought the guys with the longer legs would do well in this."

The Calgary native lapped the Pacific Coliseum ice in 13.953 seconds to lead Team Davidson to victory in the event.

Second in the competition was Ryan Parent of the Guelph Storm and Team Cherry with a time of 14.098. Raymond Macias of the Kamloops Blazers and Team Davidson was third in 14.139.

Team Davidson won the individual skills competition 5-4 over Team Cherry and secured the overall victory with a 5-4 triumph in the three-on-three mini-game.

Rabbit, who is among the WHL scoring leaders with 47 points in 44 games and ranked 41st among North American skaters by the NHL's scouting combine, said he wasn't fazed by the opposition.

"I just wanted to pump my legs. I worked a lot in the off-season with my skating so obviously it's paid off," he said. "There's a lot of big guys so I have to use my speed to my advantage."

 Sorry, I've got nothin'. How can you add to THAT?

Aaryn

PS: For the record, NO, we have not added Wacey to the list.
