*sigh* It's good to see Staalsy on the ice again.
UH, MAJOR RIVALRY- let's just say, rock em sock em hockey when Lowell and the Monarch's play each other........ Yep, totally booed- both #12 and Kobasew- it was funny- the @ the Skills competition on Sunday night , they were really booed- I think they were shocked then, but started to laugh it off, then last night, more laughing.
Poor Chuck even got booed when he was up during the shoot out! Boy, those Manchester people are HARD. ;) I guess they're gettin' ready for the weekend games, which are bound to be entertaining! - tee hee....
Boy Staalsy got robbed by Lehtonen and Miller, and of course I heard a post in that first period.... tee hee. He better get Lehtonen figured out, because when they do finally get back to playing, he's gonna be ATL's goalie- yikes. Did anyone catch Lehtonen's gumby like legs? Yowza....
Fun to watch the game- I liked that they talked to Spezza (while he was in the box) and Camalleri (sp) while they were on the ice- very chatty those two, and fan friendly. Live hockey on TV. Wow.
And Melrose & Bucci in the studio!

Lost NHL season casts pall over party
By KEVIN PROVENCHER
Union Leader Sports
MANCHESTER — Outwardly, the AHL All-Star Classic was filled with fun, but inside the locker rooms before last night’s game there was disappointment.
Disappointment that there will be no NHL this season. The Associated Press reported yesterday that the NHL would make the official announcement tomorrow ending the season.
“I’m very saddened,†said Monarchs coach Bruce Boudreau. “A bunch of really smart men cannot come to agreement, can’t compromise in some form. It’s upsetting because it’s a tremendous game.
“I don’t know. It’s not the right thing to do,†said Boudreau. “And I don’t know if anybody’s thinking about the game.â€
Boudreau’s all-star goalie, Mathieu Garon, echoed the feelings of his coach. Garon said, “It’s sad for the game, sad for the fans and sad for the players. It’s something everybody wishes never happened.â€
“I always hoped until this day that we were going to play,†said Monarchs defenseman Denis Grebeshkov. “This year for sure I’m going to stay until the end. But, next year with no NHL maybe maybe not.â€
“Not much of a surprise,†said Monarchs forward Dustin Brown, who spent last season with the Los Angeles Kings.
“People may not realize it, but we’re fans, too,†said another NHL full-timer, Ottawa forward Jason Spezza, who’s spending this season with Binghamton in the AHL.
Russian forward Anton Svitov, in his last year of a deal with the Columbus Blue Jackets, was upbeat since he has options outside the NHL and AHL: “This is my last year so I’m playing for a new contract. . . . If no NHL next year, maybe at home in Russia.â€
Boston Bruins forward Patrice Bergeron has fewer options and will remain loyal to the B’s. The second-year pro said, “I won’t quit this year. I came to the AHL with a mindset to get better as a player and improve. I was looking forward to (NHL), but I’m improving and that’s important.â€
“So that’s that,†added defenseman Jay Bouwmeester, the Florida Panthers’ first pick in 2002 now exiled to the AHL’s San Antonio for the first and probably only time in his career, due to the lockout. The 22-year-old has played 143 NHL games. “I think it’s gotten to the point where no one’s really surprised by it.â€
“I hope someone comes to his senses, gets the NHL back on ice so these future stars have a place to play,†said former Montreal Canadiens and L.A. Kings great Larry Robinson during his concluding remarks at the Hockey Hall of Fame luncheon yesterday afternoon.
If negotiators from both sides had been here this weekend, the deal would have been done and there would be an NHL.
——
BOO WHO?: Boos for Lowell Lock Monsters forwards Chuck Kobasew and Jared Staal. What do you expect? They play the home team 12 times in a season. After all, this is hockey and you’re perfectly OK if you don’t like an opponent — all-star or not. ——  (Reminds me of last years young stars game when Gary Thorne kept calling Staal "Ryan Malone" (both wear #12) I'm in my hospital bed at Rex screaming at the TV- it's Eric Staal not Ryan Malone!!!!!!!!!!! Had the nurses all twisted and stuff....)
CAN YOU HEAR ME NOW? An AHL administrator telephoned Monarchs broadcaster Ken Cail to admonish Cail as commentators Dave Long and Pete Tarrier on WGIR 610 AM’s “Sports Soundoff†trashed the PlanetUSA-Canadian all-star format last night. Apparently the radio show was piped into the Verizon Wireless Arena.
——
MAN IN THE MIDDLE: In true Canadian neutrality, PlanetUSA coach Bruce Boudreau, a Toronto native, gave the peace sign when announced before the game.
——
TWO MORE ALL-STARS: Manchester Mayor Bob Baines delivered the invocation yesterday afternoon at the Hall of Fame luncheon, but before it Baines made a point of introducing past mayor Ray Wieczorek and credited “The Wiz†for bringing the Verizon Wireless Arena to Manchester. Baines, a Democrat, unseated the Republican Wiezcorek as the doors of the Big V opened.
——
DEFINITELY NOT BORING: A lot of folks were yawning at the Hall of Fame luncheon yesterday. Not because it was boring, but because they had probably gone the distance ‘til 4 a.m. at the Monarchs’ Party Palooza in the Radisson on Sunday night. ——
THE PLAY: Mike Cammalleri‘s shake-and-bake goal Sunday night in the skills competition was ESPN’s “Play of the Day.â€
(it was a great play - pass through his skates to himself....)

Had to post this article from the Lowell Sun- talks about the boos from Manchester and Staal & Kobasew's reaction..... funny stuff.
An All-Star reception
By BARRY SCANLON, Sun Staff
MANCHESTER, N.H. -- It was a lovefest for 44 of the players introduced prior to last night's 2005 Dodge AHL All-Star Classic.
Only two players were booed like they were Michael Moore at a Bush family reunion.
All-star game or not, the sellout crowd of 9,916 at the Verizon Wireless Arena let Lowell Lock Monsters forwards Chuck Kobasew and Eric Staal know - in no uncertain terms - they were in enemy territory.
The louder the crowd booed, the wider the smiles of Kobasew and Staal, standing side by side on the blue line, grew.
"We were kind of hoping for it actually," Staal said afterward. "We've had some battles in this rink. It's a pretty heated rivalry we've got with Manchester and the fans know that. It's all in good fun."
The game was tied 4-4 after regulation.
In the shootout, all three of PlanetUSA's shooters - Zach Parise, Tomas Plekanec and Andy Hilbert - scored against Mathieu Garon. The Canadian squad went 0-3, one of the misses coming from Kobasew, who backhanded a shot high against Ryan Miller.
Milwaukee's Plekanec, who also scored in regulation, was named the game's MVP.
PlanetUSA scored three times in the second period to pull within 4-3 and then Mikko Koivu scored with 10:18 left in regulation to force the shootout.
Staal nearly scored the game's first goal, but his wrist shot off a Kobasew drop pass struck the right post 6:04 into the game. Four minutes later, Staal was robbed by Kari Lehtonen on a partial breakaway when he switched to the backhand.
"I had some great chances. It would have been great to have one go in but, hey, what can you do?" Staal said.
Despite a 20-goal season so far, Lowell's Mike Zigomanis wasn't selected to defend his MVP title. But a fan wearing a Zigomanis jersey was spotted in the crowd. ;)
NHL blackout: Today's the day the NHL is officially supposed to pull the plug on the 2004-05 season.
"It's not like we're getting blindsided by anything," said Binghamton forward Jason Spezza, the No. 2 overall pick in the 2001 draft and the AHL's leading scorer (74 points).
"I'm not even paying attention. I'm focused on what's going on here," said Kobasew, adding that he staunchly backs the players' association. "I think the players were prepared for the lockout."
After so much uncertainty, Staal said he's happy that at least a firm decision has been reached. And he's looking forward to the remainder of the regular season in Lowell.
Brown's town: Manchester rookie Dustin Brown (22-28-50) received some of the loudest cheers of the night.
Prior to the game, he talked about the rivalry with Lowell and shrugged his shoulders when asked how the Lock Monsters have beaten the first-place Monarchs five straight games.
"They're a good team. It's fun playing against them and I'm sure it's fun for them to play against us," Brown said. "Those are the games you play the game for. Everybody gets jacked up because they're right down the road."
Lowell and Manchester renew their heated rivalry twice this weekend.
"I'm not sure I like playing against them back-to-back like that," a smiling Brown said.
Notes: Two of the previous three AHL All-Star games did not feature a single penalty. Spezza was called for holding in the first period, the game's lone penalty ... Kobasew is tied for the league lead with seven game-winning goals. ... How relaxed were the players? One hour before the game, Kobasew had no idea who his linemates were going to be.
Winnipeg will host next year's game. ... Staal (2003), Lehtoten (2002) and Spezza (2001) were the second overall picks in their respective drafts. Six all-stars, however, went undrafted.
Besides Manchester's four representatives, the biggest pre-game cheer was reserved for Providence's Patrice Bergeron, a superb prospect for the Boston Bruins. Bergeron, 19, was the youngest player on the ice. The 20-year-old Staal was the fourth youngest. ... The lone Massachusetts player selected was New Bedford native Brian Pothier, a Binghamton defenseman.
