Winning shot travels length of court
ESPN.com news services
Every second counts.
With six-tenths of a second left on the clock Monday night, Guilford guard Jordan Snipes rebounded a missed free throw, turned and heaved the ball.
His court-length prayer was the winning shot as Division III Guilford beat Randolph-Macon 91-89.
Adam Krovic had just given Randolph-Macon the lead with the first of two free throws.
"We heard their coach tell them to miss," Snipes told the Richmond (Va.) Times-Dispatch. "I was just going to throw it into their body and try to draw a foul. I wasn't really thinking about it. I just grabbed it and threw it."
Guilford improved to 11-9 (6-7 in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference) while Randolph-Macon dropped to 12-8 (10-4).
"I've never seen anything like that in my life," Krovic told the paper. "Every logical explanation says you make the first and miss the second. There's no way that [shot] was going to happen. It was unbelievable."
Can't figure out how to link to the video, so you'll have to go to ESPN.com and look at the grey box on the right that says "ESPN Headlines". Then look fo "• Guilford wins on heave | The shot"
