Asked for an extension, and does not pick it up. Interesting. Think the Ducks first round sweep helped this decision? All year we've heard Teemu wants back on Kariya's line. Will it happen?
Interesting note--who else has big pockets and is shopping some players? Yes, the Broadway Blueshirts. If Lindros gets traded, makes some room for him. Also--Detroit should be considered in the running especially if Federov skips town.

Yeah, his playing style is definitely suited to the West.

During the Philly game last night they said they think he would definitely stay in California.. I bet if he does go anywhere it will be to Anaheim. Helluva loss for San Jose.. I thought they were gonna be great this year but man did they suck a big toe. I think starting the season with your goalie holding out for more money (and then winning) is not a good thing
Also interesting:
The Sharks still haven't heard from centre Vincent Damphousse, who has a $4 million US player option for next season. Damphousse must make a decision by June 30.

I have heard several times this season that Selanne wants to be back on a team with Kariya.

Are the Ducks in a position to bid for him? I can't think of too many big salaries in Anaheim.....

well, they are owned by Disney, so sure they could.
Paul Kariya made $10 mill this year though, and that is a hefty salary (4th in the NHL).
on a sort of related side note...
Paul Pressler, who oversaw the Ducks and Angels for the Walt Disney Co. before jumping to the Gap Corp., hired Murray as general manager last spring. Murray then reworked the Ducks on the fly, first making the right choice in Babcock, then upgrading the talent at every opportunity and finally by getting people to put forth the effort.
"That's what management is, it's nothing more than just being a regular person," Murray said.
The Ducks, once a cash cow for Disney, are beginning to recapture the promise of the days before Wilson's firing. Attendance was up slightly, from 12,002 tickets sold a game in 2001-02 to 13,988 this season. But it did rise after a free-fall since the 1998-99 season.
"We haven't been around long enough to have a real rich tradition here, so any time we win a playoff series it's going to create some excitement," said center Steve Rucchin, now in his ninth season with the Ducks. "Back then, it looked like the start of good things to come."
It wasn't.

Is Disney still trying to sell the Ducks? Maybe they will have better attendance next year after a great season.
I guess the competition for the entertainment dollar is stiff in that area.

Selanne ponders retirement
TSN.ca Staff
4/29/2003
Forward Teemu Selanne says he will likely retire if the impending NHL work stoppage goes beyond one season.
Speaking with reporters at the world championships in Helsinki, Finland, Selanne says he will likely retire sooner rather than later.
"If the NHL has a strike next year, and it lasts a while, I could very well retire," said Selanne. "I'm not going to play until I am 40, that's one thing I know for sure that's in the future."
Selanne, who turns 33 in July, will become a free agent this summer after failing to exercise a $6.5-million contract option. While its possible he could re-sign with the San Jose Sharks, there has been talk of reuniting with friend and former teammate Paul Kariya in Anaheim.
"When they played Detroit, I spoke with Paul every day, we're still good friends. I'm proud of the team, and on the other hand it's too bad that I am not still with them," said Selanne.
