I say an Archie Miller-Jordan Collins co-coach approach is the key to success.
I say we throw Kenny Inge into the mix

All the assistants are going with him ....
Early word is Calipari and Barnes would be the shoot-for-the-moon targets.
Personally, I think those guys areout of reach. So much $$$ has been invested into facilites that I find it hard to believe they could pony up that much for a coach.
I'm guessing in the end they'll land soemone similar to what Sendek was when he came to State: and up-and-comer from a mid-major program ... only expect more of an enthusiatic guy.
All the State folks better hope it's not Mike Davis
Or how about Doherty!

Barnes or Calipari would be terrific....
Barnes said he wouldn't come, although that would be great.
I read somewhere that Calipari is rumored to have interviewed for the Oklahoma job, so if he'd do that maybe he'd do NC State...
But I'm inclined to agree...it'll probably be a younger, up-and-coming mid-major coach or maybe an assistant from an upper-level team.
Surprised to see all of the assistants go...that includes Archie, too?

I would punch Lee Fowler in the groin if he hired either Knight or Dave Odom....
As a State fan and alum, I'll support the new coach, whoever it is, just as I supported Herb.
The State program is bigger than any one player or coach. If Wright doesn't want to play at State, that's his prerogative.

I'll agree that the program is bigger than any one individual, but without Wright, the starting PG is Atsur.
Eep.
On second though, I might be confused. Is Trevor Ferguson a PG or a two?

Isn't Wright an '07 recruit anyway?
Atsur is our PG next year regardless. He's as good of a point as Bethel (not a glowing endorsement, mind you)...
I think a lot will be determined by the style of offense we play next year.
Ferguson is a two, IIRC.

FWIW, the people at my work, plus someone who used to work here and still covers NC State, have heard Calipari is meeting with his team today ... likely to say goodbye.
A rumor, of course, but I've heard it from two groups that are on the up and up.

Calipari has never had any violations on his own. The only things were the Camby thing, which by all accounts he had nothing to do with and was isolated (Calipari had recruited other good players to UMass before Camby, too) and the fact that he looks slick.
Decision should be made no later than Thursday on this, btw.

Lets hear it for Pete Gillen. ;)

Wolfpack's Brackman Out For Season
POSTED: 11:55 am EDT May 17, 2006
RALEIGH, N.C. -- North Carolina State pitcher Andrew Brackman has a stress fracture in his left hip, meaning he'll miss the rest of the 2006 college baseball season.
Medical personnel say Brackman should recover fully following four weeks of complete rest, and up to four weeks of rehabilitation.
Brackman first reported the injury on March 6, the day after he pitched two and a third innings against UCLA in the final game of a three-game series in Raleigh. He hasn't pitched since April 21 at North Carolina.
Because stress fractures normally occur over time and not due to sudden trauma, there's no way to pinpoint when the injury began to affect the Wolfpack righthander, who was also a forward on the basketball team.
Brackman finishes the year with a record of 1-3 and an earned-run average of 6.35.

It shouldn't really affect basketball if he rehabs it fully, but that doesn't mean he'll play.
He was terrible on the mound this season, and the extra weight he added for basketball just slowed him down and limited his minutes.
He's such a good pitcher when he's on, it's been suggested that he won't return to the basketball team in order to solidfy his MLB draft stock. At the same time, it's also been said that if Cedric Simmons stays at State, Brackman wants to play one more season with him before Ced goes pro.

Well Simmons is gone since he has hired an agent.

The Pit seeks '83 'reunion'
Caulton Tudor, Staff Writer
It's not all set yet, but the state of New Mexico would like to bring Sidney Lowe and N.C. State's basketball team back to the scene of the Wolfpack's 1983 NCAA championship win.
The plan is to reunite the '83 Final Four teams -- State, Houston, Georgia and Louisville -- for the 2008 Jimmy V Classic doubleheader that's normally played in New Jersey.
"We think it would be a great way to commemorate the 25th anniversary of Coach Valvano's greatest win," said Dennis Latta, assistant director of the New Mexico Sports Authority.
Wolfpack athletics director Lee Fowler agrees.
"It's a terrific concept, and I think we'd be all for it," Fowler said.
With Lowe, recently announced as State's new coach, at point guard, the '83 Pack defeated Houston, 54-52, on April 4, 1983 in the University of New Mexico's arena, known as "The Pit."
Latta, a native of Staunton, Va., covered that game as sports editor of The Albuquerque Journal newspaper.
Like the thousands who watched in the building and millions more who saw it on television, Latta recalls State's upset as a landmark event in college basketball history.
"The last play of that game -- Lorenzo Charles' game-winning shot -- has to be one of the most famous and most frequently replayed shots ever," Latta said.
The resident host city and state have cherished their role in that dramatic event for more than two decades, Latta said.
"It was a once-in-a-lifetime experience for New Mexico," he said. "People still talk about those games as if they were played last year, rather than in 1983. It's fairly remarkable when you think about it."
Like North Carolina, and most other states, New Mexico may never host another Final Four. Buildings the size of The Pit, which was opened in 1966 and seats 18,018, are no longer deemed suitable as Final Four venues. The same applies to Greensboro (1974 Final Four) and Charlotte (1994).
The last non-dome to get the games was New Jersey's Meadowlands in 1996. The demand for Final Four tickets is such that only arenas with 40,000 or more seats get serious consideration.
The games in Albuquerque were the last Final Four games played in an on-campus facility.
"For us, this idea would be the next best thing to another Final Four," Latta said. "Believe me, the city would make a very big deal out of it."
But like everything else in sports, great ideas don't always become realities.
Moving the Jimmy V Classic to Albuquerque, even for a one-time-only stand, will require help from ESPN, the four schools, the V Foundation, athletics department officials at the University of New Mexico and folks at the Meadowlands.
Latta's group would like to reunite several players and coaches from the original teams.
"A lot would have to be done, but this project is just in the hatching stage," Latta said. "Time is on our side, though. We've got plenty of time to make our plans, get our ducks in a row and propose our ideas to everyone involved."
If the folks in New Mexico are successful in this venture, there'll no doubt be more Final Four reunion doubleheaders in the future.
Greensboro, in 1974, had State, Marquette, UCLA and Kansas. Charlotte's '94 field was Arkansas, Duke, Florida and Arizona. Both would have lots of TV and gate appeal.
Or how about an '81 reunion -- Indiana, North Carolina, LSU and Virginia -- in Philadelphia to raise money for the Hurricane Katrina recovery fund?
The possibilities are intriguing.

For the record, Powell had no choice but to leave early ... rumor is a close family member of his took money from someone they were involved romantically with and he wasn't going to get his eligbility back.

UPDATED: 11:36 am EDT June 13, 2006
DURHAM, N.C. -- Former Duke University men's basketball guard J.J. Redick was arrested early Tuesday and charged with driving while impaired, a Durham police spokeswoman said.
Kammie Michael, with the Durham Police Department, said Redick turned away from a police checkpoint at LaSalle Street and Kangaroo Drive. Officers then followed the 2005 Toyota sport utility vehicle he was driving to Belmont Apartments on McQueen Street.
Redick's blood-alcohol level registered .11, Michael said. The legal blood-alcohol level in North Carolina is .08.
Redick is currently out of jail after posting a $1,000 bond.

My thoughts exactly. He has everything... and he is willing to piss it away to drive after drinking.
Everything I've read lately, is projecting Cedric as a possible lottery pick, maybe even top-ten.
