Congratulations to them both :spin:
I'd have posted a link, but it's something I can't quite get the hang of, computer illiterate that I am

And, actually, since it's short:
Yamaguchi, Hurricanes' Hedican expecting a child
Associated Press
SAN FRANCISCO -Olympic gold medalist Kristi Yamaguchi is expecting a child in October.
The 1992 figure skating champion retired from the Stars on Ice tour last year to begin a family with husband Bret Hedican, a defenseman for the Carolina Hurricanes.
"Both Bret and I come from very close families, so starting our own is an incredible thrill," Yamaguchi said. "We are both ready for this new stage in our lives."
The couple met at the 1992 Olympics in Albertville, France, where he was playing for Team USA.
Yamaguchi will continue working with the organization she founded, the Always Dream Foundation, which provides funding and encouragement for program to inspire children and adolescents. She also will host a skating event in November, about one month after she is due to give birth.
"Since we both spend so much time on the ice," Hedican said, "everyone is wondering if the child will be born with skates on."

Cool. At the last Toronto game at the RBC, Kristi and Grandma Yamaguchi were there and Kristi kept making smiley faces at a baby sitting next to her. I told my husband, "I bet Grandma Yamaguchi is in town 'cause Kristi is pregnant." My husband thought I had too vivid an imagination. Ha! I just had to call him for a little bit of "I told you so."
Congratulations to them both.

I don't know how everyone else feels, but I wouldn't mind keeping this kind of stuff off the board. I've heard lots of rumors about the players, families, children, etc., but even if they are true, until it's publicly addressed (like the Brodeur article), it's something I'd rather not read here. Just my 2 cents.
(Hope that doesn't sound harsh Opuntia, it's just the first time I've read that sort of stuff on this board, I think. :) )
Edited to get rid of quote of deleted post...

personally, it doesn't much matter how everyone feels... I don't want to see it.
I agree with nccanes, if there's some publicity about it, fine... drag the players personal lives around if you want. But until then. no. sorry. you'll have to find something else to discuss.

I've considered cleaning this stuff out of this thread. But I'm choosing to leave it. why?
well, because if it stays up, maybe you can get the gist of what was edited out, and maybe it won't happen again. If I clean it out, nobody will know that it won't be allowed here... and it will happen again.
so, it stays, per me (the pain in the ass mod)

Nah, just trying to do your job. And thanks for putting up with us pain in the ass people!
And to put the endcap on it, I will repeat what I edited out before. Giggling over and/or spitting in disgust at rumors/gossip about the players is probably better not done on a public board. You never know who is reading these things!! ;)

I was thinking about the last time I saw her skate at the RecZone (just before a Canes practice last month), I presume she was a few months pregnant already and she seemed to be flying and jumping as usual. I guess that will change as her center of gravity changes a bit...

Just came across this and don't think it's been posted..
NHL Q & A: Bret Hedican
Sunday, April 06, 2003
By Dejan Kovacevic, Post-Gazette Sports Writer
Bret Hedican, Hurricanes defenseman, is one of the game's premier skaters and was a valuable contributor to Carolina's run to the Stanley Cup final last spring. Dejan Kovacevic asked him questions Tuesday at Mellon Arena.
Q: A year after your team made it to the final, what will it be like to watch other teams?
A: You feel a little jealous. It's the most exciting time of the year, and you wish you were going to be a part of it. The part of it that's the most exciting for me is that everybody's play goes up a level, and you've got to match it. Even the greatest players in the world, their level goes up. There's no better time to be on the ice.
Q: Which team out of the East do you feel can do what your team did last season?
A: I think it's Ottawa. They've probably been the toughest team for us to play against all season. They've got good balance offensively, good defense, and Patrick Lalime has played well pretty much all year even though he's struggled lately. They've got all that, plus they added some grit at the trade deadline. We showed last year that you don't have to fight, but you've got to be tough. You've got to hit, to answer the bell when a teammate is challenged.
Q: Do you feel young NHL defensemen are increasingly failing to produce offense?
A: Hey, what about me? I'm 32, and I'm still not getting points. Actually, yes, I do see that, and you hope it's not a trend that's going to change the way defense is played in this league. This game is changing, so there isn't as much scoring all over. But I see some young defensemen who look like they'll be able to get some points, and I hope, for the game's sake, we'll eventually be able to get goals from them.
Q: Would taking the red line out, as some suggest, help or hurt defense scoring?
A: Oh, I don't think it would hurt at all. I think the whole game would open up. If the game is played goal line to red line, it's condensed and you can't spread the game out. Going goal line to opposing blue line, the entire game would open up. And if that happens, I think that gives a D-man even more chances to jump up and fill holes, get into the attack. I would love it.

Really? You'd have thought it would have been the Rangers maybe. We played pretty well against Ottawa....it's teams like the Rangers and Florida that we sucked against.

And I think Mr. Hedican is bluffing a bit. I remember quotes from him some time after coming to the Canes talking about how relieved he was because the coaching staff here "just wanted him to play defense". He talked about the pressure he felt in Florida to produce, etc. So either he's bluffing now or he was bluffing then. Not that it matters, interviews are interviews. As much as I'm a "fan" of his, I came to find Bret's comments in the press rather bland this season.

For those of you who read Entertainment Weekly:
In the new issue, just received in my mailbox yesterday, in the "Monitor" section on p. 21, there is an impending birth announcement for Kristi and Brett.
Sadly -- no picture of Brett, ladies -- only Kristi ;)

I thought I read last year in an interview with her (in the N&O, I think) that she would deliver in San Fran to be near family since the season will have started or be very close to starting when the baby is due. I'm sure Bret will be present for the delivery (if I were Kristi he'd be there or else :D ), but then her family will be around when he's on the road. I'm sure she and the baby will be in Raleigh at some point since they've bought a house here. Of course, all this could have changed or I could be remembering totally wrong ;)

A friend of mine mentioned that she saw the due date in an article in Pregnancy magazine (or some pregnancy-related mag) that she was due on Oct 1. Seems like enough time to get the baby born before the real season begins (even if they have to induce).
Found the article online:

Well our office just got a copy of "Premier Baby" magazine. (They wanted our office to advertise). They include a two-page spread of the baby's nursery. Here is the quote of the text:Headline: A New Arrival for Kristy(sic) Yamaguchi
October 2003 will bring new excitement to two of the Trinagle's favorite ice skaters, gold-medal-winning figure skater Kristi Yamaguchi and her husband Carolina Hurricanes defenseman Bret Hedican: the arrival of their first child.
Kristi turned to Angela Krause, owner or Raleigh's dilly dally. "Kristi is a delight to work with." says Angela. "After choosing a beautiful wrought iron convertible crib, she is trusting us to create a nursery that will be comfortable and enchanting for their baby." From wall murals to crib linens, from changing table to accessories, Angela and dilly dally designer Allison Lyda are designing every part of the nursery in Kristi and Bret's Raleigh home.
Celebrated North Carolina artist Kelly Rightsell is creating a new design, "Wishing Upon a Star," just for Kristi and Bret. This new design sets the teme for the decor and will be available to the public in a limited print addition(sic) this October.
There is a picture of a nursery in yellows, greens and greys with stars and moons. I do not see a mural so I'm not really sure if its "their" nursery or not.
