View Full Version : who has Canes Plate 0002CH?

MIKELIUT

Canes plate 0002CH has been appearing regularly in front of a house about six doors down from me. Before I make a fool of myself knocking on the door, anyone know who that is?? (I have plates 0006 and 0007)

MIKELIUT
07-03-2005, 03:37 PM
Plate 0001 was reserved for PK then given away in a contest in early 2004. someone told me two years ago that Chopper had either plate 0002 or 0003.

Man, you have to be pretty quick to get that low of a number. Or have great connections. Or be the Canes #1 fan. :p

I hope whoever it is is a big Glen Wesley fan.

You've gotta have some pretty high standing with the org. to get that one... I'd guess either Tyler Moss or Pat Jablonski.

I hate to say I actually know this, but if it is a Jeep... It is most like the dreaded Chopper Harrison.

FYI... Chopper is working with John Forslund for CSET preparing for a Canes TV show. They have approached a lot of companies I know about advertising. God can only hope that he is not the new color guy...

You've GOT to be kidding about JF and Chopper. I guess if he's out there selling ads fine, but I honestly would not watch/listen to a show if Chopper is in anyway involved on camera or radio. I know he loves the Canes, but there are 1000s others who do as well that would be much better suited for such a thing.

Anyway, CSET is toast, so I guess they're pitching elsewhere.

C-SET To Cease Operations

June 28, 2005 – C-SET (Carolinas Sports Entertainment Television), the 24-hour regional sports and entertainment network created to serve local programming interests in North and South Carolina, will cease operations effective June 30, 2005.

FYI... Chopper is working with John Forslund for CSET preparing for a Canes TV show. They have approached a lot of companies I know about advertising. God can only hope that he is not the new color guy...

Is this some sort of sick joke? I mean, for real? Why on Gods green earth would JF want any sort of association with Chopper in relation to a Canes show or broadcast??? E is right, there are PLENTY of people who love the Canes as much as that permed, afroed loon, but good gosh, this is INSANE. I mean, I think we'd all like to be independently wealthy, if for nothing but the freedom that such status would allow, but that doesn't mean we're all gonna be rollin' in dough- same can be said for Chopper- being a fan of the team doesn't elevate him to 'analysis' or 'insight' maven. Are we now to assume if this show does take off, that Chopper would be able to break down what needs to be done about the power play or why someone is slumping with no goals or assists in 5 games? Holy crap, I'm just beside myself.....

nccanes
07-11-2005, 06:58 AM
I've convinced myself that Chopper's involvement in whatever they are putting together is that he's selling the ad time. That's my story and I'm sticking to it (for sanity's sake).

Surely JF is smart enough to know that Chopper has no real hockey cred to put him in front of the camera. Chopper is probably happy because if this works out, he'd be able to skulk about the locker room again.

MIKELIUT

Chopper told me that he and Forslund had a tentative deal with cSet to air a hockey show in all of their NC markets, but with cSet's plug being pulled last week, that is gone. He says he and JF are now working a different angle on the TV show.

I will say from my 45 minute chat that Chopper actually appeared more knowleadgeble about hockey and also more sane than his on-air persona.

He raised the issue of attendance post-CBA, I suggested the team have some focus groups and volunteered myself as one of the foci. He said he would pass it along. He indicated that he was hoping to have some formal role with the Canes next season.

StormChaserBH
07-11-2005, 02:56 PM
If Chopper is ever a regular in front of a TV camera for the Canes, two things:

1) that would be the one condition that would leave me begging for Tripp to come back, and (more likely...)

2) the TV mute button, while previously spending a majority of time engaged while viewing Canes games, would be made permanently so. Sorry, JF.

He indicated that he was hoping to have some formal role with the Canes next season.

He and how many other 100s of people?

It's nice that you've been complimentary of him as a normal, knowledgeable fan, but that describes the majority of the Canes STHs I'd guess. I wonder if Chopper even had to pay for his seat at the games.

I must insert the obligatory "yes, he did talk about the Canes most mornings when other stations did not", but C'MON. I'd rather see Morgan Patrick or Chris Clark or Adam Gold get a gig with the Canes and I don't really like any of them either.

Chopper was a loud mouth DJ that liked the Canes and that served him as well as he served them. He does not at all strike me as the face of a professional organization at all. He's a FAN! What skills transfer from morning DJ to Pro Hockey organization.

I was thinking on the TV side, which I can easily avoid by listening to the Chuckmeister! Don't tell me there's a chance that he'll end up ruining every game I attend....

Previous guy, Tony Gilliam (http://www.carolinahurricanes.com/images/audio/multimedia/arena/welcome.mp3), was let go entering the lockout, I believe. He was also the connection to (Blackhawk fan) Ric Flair pretending to be a Canes fan for those jumbotron features... (Historical note... Sorry, can't help it, his "act" just grates me more than a bit, and the year off hasn't dulled the pain :D :D

Seriously, I imagine something like regular intermission emcee, as he did sometimes, would be right up his alley. Then he could bellow "Let 'em hear you in the locker room" all he wanted... (And I could make sure I went out to the concourse every intermission, but I digress.) But they've generally spread that job around as a "guest" job to their other media partners like 850 Buzz etc.. so I don't know if that's a job they would give one person.

Tony Gilliam is also the PA announcer at Carolina football games  (a hired hand, unlike State's PA guy, Communications Professor Dr. Edward Funkhouser :)), so I'm sure he could be easily rehired.

Mark Roberts was also the Icecaps' PA announcer, and as I've recounted many times here, my fondest hockey memory as a tyke was hearing him say, "The Icecaps are at FULLLLLL STRENGTH!" after killing a penalty.

Seriously though, I'm pretty sure the last time I talked to John he said that Tripp was about to sign his contract, so I don't think he's out. Even if Chopper is part of some sort of Canes TV show, I almost guarantee that it won't be as the color guy at games, because I've never heard anything out of him that would suggest that he has the knowledge of hockey tactics required for in-game work.

if you dont want to drive 45 minutes to the nearest awesome BBQ place, the Q shack has an awesome hickory smoked pork butt sandwhich - i go to it sometimes, its in the new North Hills mall area... its probably a chain though

More power to you, my man.

Nothing around here is as good as Wilson/Goldsboro stuff, but with Cooper's and Knightdale (though it has declined) around, you can keep all the Q-Shack for yourself.

I don't think I've ever risked going to a barbecue place west of Greensboro, but no, I haven't been there.
