Canes plate 2 has been parked down the street from me for a week or two. Well, I just went and knocked on the door down the street, and it was Chopper. He's living with some neighbors of mine for a month or two. We had a great 45 minute chat about the Canes. Rumors are Bates and Gary might be back, Jeff O gone.

He doesn't have a house? Goodness gracious...
Interesting rumors. The impression that I got was that Bates would never be back, so it surprises me to hear this. Alot of people seem to be against that, but I don't see what's so wrong with bringing him is as a good 4th line grinder. '01 was a fluke, but he can still be a useful player for the team.
It also doesn't surprise me that O might be gone.
And honestly I'd be extremely surprised to see Gary Roberts leaving Toronto. He's a good player, but I might rather see that money go towards a younger player.

If they bring Gary Roberts back, I'm gonna have to snag JR from his table at PF Chang's and give him what for. Bates can be had on the cheap, and on the cheap I don't see any reason not to have him back, as he'll likely play much better in a place where he feels wanted and likes to live. As much as I harped on trading O for a Mars bar way back when, I'd like to see him stay. Between last season and the off-season(s), his stock can't get much lower. Worst case scenario he never gets his touch back and we sell him off cheap. Better case, he starts to score again and we trade him for someone else of equal caliber. Best case, he sets the net on fire.

to steer this thread back to Chopper, I can confirm another thread on this board that stated that Chopper and Forslund were working on a proposed TV show for cSet until Bob Johnson pulled the plug on that network last week. Now they are looking for other outlet(s).
BTW, Chopper seemed quite sane, not the on-air persona I had been expecting.

Moved the Bertuzzi chat to its own thread in the other NHL forum. :)
