It is a good event...the athletes are very accesible...they will sign autographs and pose for pics...good opportunity to meet them..and support a great cause as well..I have been a volunteer since its inception.... :spin: As I find out more info, I will share it ok?

This will be my 3rd year as a volunteer at the "big" classic and the 2nd at the junior classic. My first year, I helped with the bag drop at the practice round. When Ron and Tom Barasso pulled up, I was right there with bells on! Those golf bags are really heavy, but I managed to drag them over to the curb for the caddies. I'm usually a marshall and haven't been with one of the Hurricanes groups, but everyone I've talked to says they are awesome. It's so great to see the kids get a chance to get autographs and pictures. It's also cool to see the big kids have fun...just follow the girls if you are looking for Jeff or Bates! :D
They are still looking for volunteers for both classics, if you would like to check it out. You get the brushes with celebrities (including the Hurricane boys), but the classics are really amazing events. If I have one thing in my life that I'm passionate about (ok, besideshockey!), it would definitely be the V Foundation. I lost my grandmother in 1996 and words from Jimmy V's speech about laughing, thinking, and crying every day really got me through that terrible experience. Last summer, I lost a cousin to leukemia, so the junior classic also means a lot to me. It's truly amazing to see the hundreds of volunteers and thousands of people who go to that classic every year. Everyone wins, really. People get to see sports and tv stars. The celebrities get to play golf. Both groups get to raise money for grants that support research to end a disease that takes too many heros.
If you're interested, the site with info about volunteers is www.golfclassic.org/pages/volunteers.html. It's really a wonderful experience and I'd encourage anyone to get involved. This is the 10th year of the "big" classic, so I'm sure it will be very special this year. So many people have a family member who has been affected by cancer and it can make you feel so helpless. The classic is a way to contribute and makes the battle a little smaller. It really speaks to what one person can do. Even though Jimmy V lost his life to cancer, he was able to start something that goes on and fights the battle.
As a Hurricanes fan, it makes me so proud that a lot of the guys come out for the big classic and junior classic. It's one of those things that people tend to forget about when the season doesn't go well. They may be players, but they are really awesome people as well.
Anyway, hope to see a lot of you at the classic! Sorry for the long post, but it's something really close to my heart!

It is a huge event....most years 20-30,000 people....they do bus you in from Carter Finley...I think you pay $5 and you get a bus ride and a program...Great opportunity to meet the celebs and help out!

The tickets are $6 or $7. I forgot about the trip from Carter Finley. For you State folks, you even get to ride the infamous Wolfline buses! :D At some point, you can get a pairings sheet to see who is on what course. The tournament is at Prestonwood, so there are 3 courses. The middle course is wired for ESPN, so that's the most crowded and has the "national" celebrity types: Barkley, etc. It seems like they spread out the Hurricanes last year which was cool because there were so many of them.
I'm still laughing about the Sean Hill as Magenta reference! :eek2: He was having an Ian Moran moment with the singing. Hilarious stuff!
They will put the names of celebrities scheduled to attend on the website as the tournament gets closer. There will also be information about V Jam (concert before the tournament) and other events.
I'll remind myself to put something on here closer to the tournament. I'm so glad some people are going to attend!
