View Full Version : Word of warning - November 20th vs. Tampa Bay

In case you haven't checked it out, NC State released their basketball schedule.

They are scheduled to play Delaware as the second half of a doubleheader at 2 PM on 11/20.

The Hurricanes are scheduled to play Tampa at 7 that night.

This should prove to be a classic RBC Center cluster#$%^.

Even if it all somehow worked, the ice will be so bad, it would make the Cary Ice House look like Edmonton's ice.

Oh, but the traffic, Cam! ;)

(Let's ignore the fact that I doubt that the RBC will be packed for a 2pm Sunday game against Delaware and that the only people inconvenienced will be people that want to tailgate at 4pm.)

Yeah, the foot traffic is pretty bad when I'm walking to my car to take off my Sidney Lowe jersey and put on my Kevyn Adams jersey.

Two days straight is nothing. There were times in 03-04 where the combination of hockey and basketball meant SIX STRAIGHT NIGHTS at the RBC. It was heaven.

Why is it that always happens when we're playing Tampa? Same thing happened last season and we skated to a 0-0 tie.

I was waiting to see if someone would remember that god awful night... the ice was HORRIBLE that night... the puck was all over the place, it was taking weird hops, it would stop dead in certain spots on the ice, players were tripping over gaping ruts in the ice.... the ice was incredibly slow all night.... by far the worst ice I've ever seen for a Hurricanes game in the RBC... add in a small crowd that was virtually silent the whole game, absolutely no jump in the players (which might explain the quiet crowd, all 6000 that were there), and it added up to one of the worst games I've seen in a while in the RBC. Usually a 0-0 tie can actually be exciting... soooo not the case for that game... I wanted to ask for a refund on that stinker....

Um, actually, I beg to differ about the crowd...yeah, it was small. But despite that, they were one of the loudest crowds I remember hearing in 2003-04. Especially when the rotten call of Brindy's goal being waived off happened.

BWAHAHAHAHA!

During my student days, State played Ga. Tech a couple of days after Fran blew through town. I got the worst sunburn ever and had to go back to an apartment with no power, no car, and the only food I had to cook was a can of soup cooked over a candle. Good times!

Uh, there's no point to the story.

Next time I'll talk about the time I walked 5 miles through the snow to and from school. Uphill both ways!

I wasn't trying to be a jerk. I was trying to point out as was said, the ice is going to be a disaster.

Even if the changeover crew can get it done in 90 minutes, they may not have 90 minutes. I would seriously doubt that the basketball doubleheader would be finished much before 4:30. The doors are supposed to open for the 7:05 game at 6. That's 90 minutes right there.

Regardless of traffic, which probably wouldn't be an issue, unless the basketball was to go longer, the ice will be a joke.

What if someone were to suffer a serious injury?

I'm sorry, it's dumbass scheduling. There should be at least 3 1/2 hours available for a changeover. They barely will have 90 minutes.

In 125, it was beyond dead for the entire game. 328 sounded like they were sitting right next to us. Under normal crowd noise situations, it's actually hard to make out specifically what they are saying other than the goalie "you suck" chants. The crowd did get outraged a little over the non-goal. But other than that we had a few folks in our section that were nodding off, including the person who came with me (who normally is stupid loud cheering the whole game). Even she said it was like a morgue in there... I guess I just remember it differently...

Irregardless, the original poster has a valid point... the ice is going to be absolutely awful that night with the changeover happening so close to game time.

nccanes,

I'd be loving that! As a Wolfpacker (fan), and a Blue Hen (graduate), I'd be all over that.

Only problem is, it's a second game of a doubleheader. Stetson and The Citadel tip at noon. It's conceivable that the first game could run long, forcing the second game to run long, hence why I've been saying that 90 minutes may not be enough time.

The changeover doesn't really impact fans so they could open the doors to the building while the crew is still working on getting the ice ready.

They will have to have the morning skate at the RecZone but that's not that big of a deal.

As for Reynolds, the Appalachian game is already scheduled there and the girls might be playing in Reynolds that day anyway.

On a side note, part of the Reynolds renovation is installing a permanent wooden floor that covers the entire arena .
