Where has 2003 gone? I mean the NHL season seemed like it just dragged ON and ON for our squad, but COME ON (Marvin Tihkva-ism) wasn't it just Valentine's Day? Is it just me or has this year just flown by?
The reason for my dismay is my wife's birthday is just 3 days away, and I need some help picking out her gift. Now before anyone starts flaming me for being "a typical man" and waiting until the last minute, I should let you know of a few things. We have been doing some renovations to our house to get it ready for sale, and had people in form out of town each weekend for the last month, and I have been getting her car fixed up for the frickin' tests our wonderful Provincial Government makes you do every 2 years before your birthday, AND she hasn't given me any ideas as to what she wants! All she has said is that my gift has been bought (my birthday is 7 days after her's), and how much it cost.
Let me not forget to add that I habitually buy her flowers EVERY Friday, and add to her collection of turtles every chance I get, so I hope you get the impression that there's nothing "typical" about how I treat her. I realize after re-reading this that it may seem like I'm bragging, but honestly, can you see my predicament? What do I get her? HELP ME!
Back to the topic of May, this year has flown by, and I'm hoping that the summer doesn't fly by just as fast. Well, maybe I am a little, I want to put the 2002-03 season FAR behind me. Thanks in advance for your help, and keep your sticks on the ice. ;)

Time does go by so quickly....the older you get, the faster it goes by...
Let's see...how many days til preseason??? :D
Happy May everyone!!
..and Aaryn how about a little "getaway" to NC?? :D ;) We can all meet you at the RBC Center and we can cry together...and dream about next season!! Does your wife live, eat and breathe hockey like you do??

Wow, you are in a bind Aaryn. Unfortunately, I don't have a creative or romantic bone in my body so I can't help you. I hope everything works out though. I'm sure she'll still love you no matter what you get. :spin:

I really don't know what you could get her, I have trouble getting presents for people myself.
I'm happy that it's finally May since I get to move into my new apartment on May 10th. The only thing is I'll be all alone for a while since I'm moving in earlier than all my roommates. But it should be fun.
The one reason that I'm unhappy it's May is the fact that I have exams coming up next week. Exams just plain suck.

How long have you been married? What does she like? How old is she?
Do you have children?
If you're romantic enought to give her flowers WEEKLY!! :eek2: -- then how are you at writing poetry?
My hubbie and I have been married for 16 years, and birthdays just aren't a big deal anymore (don't do wrapped presents except for Christmas) -- but we do try to surprise each other for birthdays by going to a special restaurant, or going somewhere we've never been before. We never tell each other where we're going, and it always has to be swanky place where a reservation is required.
I did give us a couple's massage at a day spa for our last anniversary -- that was pretty cool, and romantic. That'd be relaxing, too, since you've been so busy with your house.
Good luck!!

My suggestion Aaryn? Your own words on paper.... and make it longer than a sentence ;)
Flowers weekly? Damn. ;)

I know, get her something you really want yourself under the guise of a b-day present and then YOU can play with it!
I may be on to something here people. I think I saw it on the Simpsons. Then it has to work!

I was gonna suggest the massage type thing too. My favorite gift is always the spa gift certificate!! Especially during a stressful time period like moving there is nothing like a few hours in a nice spa for a massage and facial! I'm hoping that's what I'm getting for my anniversary here in a couple weeks and I just finished using the Valentines one a couple weeks ago!
I'll agree on the massage/spa thing too. Also, jewelry is usually appreciated. ;)

Thanks all! The massage thing is a good idea, but keep the ideas coming! Shell's wonderful Ant Farm idea may not go over too well, and Caniac's idea of something for myself may end up with me being on the receiving end of a can of whoop ass, so I think I'll pass on that one.
As for her "specs", she is going to be 27, we will be married for 2 years this July 21st, we have no kids (yet), she is a HUGE collector of almost anything turtle (just not the teenage mutant ninja type), and no she NOWHERE near the hockey junkie that I am.
As for the flowers, yup, EVERY Friday. The way I look at it is, Friday is the longest time before you have to go back to work, so why not share it with the people (or person) you love most and show them how much your time with them means to you. Keep the ideas coming folks, PLEASE!

I get it. You're trying to make us other males look bad. I have to kill you now.
My name is Inigo Montoya. You are the man who killed my father. Prepare to die

Hmmmm...your wife is not a hockey junkie, eh? Well, I have the ultimate suggestion and remedy...a Carolina Hurricanes Swimsuit Calendar! :D If only they came out with such a thing...
Just kidding...my advice to you is to get her a Prelude. :smoke:
Alright, seriously...does your wife like to cook? If she does, I would love to suggest the Cookin' With the Canes cookbook, but unfortunately, I don't have another copy to send you. BUT FORTUNATELY, I could e-mail you scans of recipes from the said book...if you want, I can send you a list of the recipes, and you can choose which ones sound the most tasty and/or interesting.
If that idea doesn't thrill you, then I would have to go with some of the others, and say that you can't go wrong with jewelery. :) :spin:
Okay, I am 27, but I am a HUGE hockey junkie... all he would have to get me is a gift certificate to go buy hockey gear and I would be thrilled!
How about a small turtle pendant and necklace (assuming she doesn't already have one)? Or you could always make up a picnic basket with wine, wineglasses, cheese, some small delicacies, and have a picnic on your floor (or outside if it is warm enough)... and give her a basket with one of those cute little wooden massagers, massage and bath oils/creams, and then offer to do the massage yourself. :smoke:
Giving kitchen stuff and/or appliances is generally bad... anything that implies that you want them to *work* is not a good idea... unless they specifically ask for something.

I dont know if like getting your nails done and a pedicure go along the same lines with the spa...But a pedicure/manicure is really relaxing to go along with the spa/massage day, if she is into all that...
But as always a nice dinner out and present her with jewery could never fail! :D

Well, I received a small reprieve this morning! My wife, who leaves for work before I even get up, left me a note that said it would be alright if I wanted to wait until NEXT weekend to get her gift so we can exchange them together (My birthday is 7 days after hers). I also found out how much she spent on me, the equivilent to approx. $100US.
The thing here is, we both get paid next week, and she realizes that she hasn't given me ANY ideas, so this gives me the extra time to save a bit more, and maybe by then she will have come up with some ideas. What she doesn't know is that you good folks have already been giving me some great ideas. Now that we have an established budget, maybe your thought processes could shift gears and come up with some other ideas. If you have any further thoughts on my predicament, please help me out, as my "deadline" has been extended. Thanks.

Well, I thought it was time to let you all know how my search for my wife's birthday gift turned out since it is now MY birthday. I went with your idea of the spa, but went one further. I bought her an entire day at a spa (manicure, pedicure, facial, massage, mud wrap, etc, the whole shootin' match). She deserves it, we had been busy getting our house ready for sale and recently completed all of the renovations we had in progress. I also got her a turtle suncatcher to add to her collection, flowers, and took her to dinner at our favourite restaurant. So, how'd I do?
Well, I'd have to say I did well, BECAUSE, she got me a Ron Francis road jersey! She waited until just after midnight and let me open my present. Last year she had my home jersey personalized with my name and number, and had mentioned about having my road jersey done up with Francis on it, but she bought me another road jersey and had that one done up. Isn't she great?
Anyhooooo, it's still early and I have the rest of my day ahead of me, so I think I'll enjoy the rest of my last ever birthday. I have decided that my 29th is my last. Thanks for all your help, and keep your sticks on the ice.

Anyone else with a May birthday?

May is a busy month in our household. My birthday was the 5th (also Cinco de Mayo), my daughter's the 6th, and niece's the 20th. Along with birthdays, throw in a first communion and Mother's Day. Is it June yet?
Favorite birthday present this year is the one in the mail: My "LetsGoCanes.com" shirt.
Best Mother's Day present (kind of):
Being waken up today at 6:30, not quite the hour I planned to get up today, with "breakfast in bed" - OJ and chocolate poptarts. Not quite the breakfast of champions, but it's great for kids 8 & 11 when Dad is at work.
get her an ant farm, she'll love it! ;)
LOL!!!!! :D Or how about a CLONE farm? :p

Turtles! Ok, so there's some information I can work with.... she loves turtles (and who doesn't, I might add... mighty cute little critters...). Does she just have collectibles or does she have a live turtle too? You can buy a mini turtle from a pet store for nothing and I hear they make adorable, low-maintenance pets. :)

I gave her 2 turtles a few years back. They aren't really low maintenance and we ended up freeing them into her sister's pond. Thanks for the idea, but I think the day at the spa will do the job. I am going to wear my jersey to work today also.
