Our printer seems to be on the blink. It won't print - i've tried everything. It is a Canon BJC-4400. It pulls the paper through, just nothing shows up on the paper. I've put in new cartriges and everything. What's going on?
Thanks for any help.
Ok, now something else happened. I turned it on to try & print and the paper came through blank again. Then after a minute or 2 it beeped and the light is flashing orange. We used the printer on 9/1 and that was the last time it worked.

Canon site troubleshooting
You may be out of ink or the print head nozzles may be clogged. If this is a new cartridge, make sure the orange protective cap and tape have been removed from the bottom of the cartridge.
If the printer tries to print but no ink appears on the page, perform a self-test to determine the status of the ink cartridge.
Follow these steps to perform a self-test from the printer:
1. With the printer's power plugged in and paper in the printer, turn the printer off.
2. Press and hold the POWER button on the top of the printer until the printer beeps 4 times.
3. The printer will print a small grid on the top corner of the page. You should see magenta (pink), yellow, cyan (blue) and black lines. If you are missing any of these colors, you may need to replace the associated ink tank. Often, multiple print head cleanings will cause the ink to start flowing again if there is still ink in the tanks.
4. You can execute a print head cleaning by holding down the RESUME button until the printer beeps twice. You may need to perform 3 to 5 cleanings. If the issue continues after replacing any empty BCI ink tanks and cleaning the print head, replacement of the entire cartridge may be required.
For the BC-21e: If the print head cleanings do not improve the output, you may need to replace the BCI-21black or BCI-21color ink tank. If replacing the BCI ink tank and performing print head cleanings does not resolve the issue, you may need to replace the entire BC-21e cartridge.
Canon BJ cartridges and ink tanks can be purchased online at http://estore.usa.canon.com/ , by calling 1-800-385-2155 to speak to a Canon eStore representative, or from your local Canon dealer.

You said you put new ink in it, did you pull the all of the protective tape/tabs on the ink cartdrige off? This is what I have found happens most of the time when it will not print.

There was no tape, just a tab and yes they're gone. None of my cartridges work. I have color and plain b & w and they don't work.

I had similiar problems with another Cannon printer (S300). I found the printhead itself had burned up. No matter how often I cleaned it or replaced the ink, it never worked right again.

Here's what I do:
1.) go to my garage and find tool box
2.) pull tool box off shelf, place on floor and open
3.) search contents until mallet is found
4.) take said mallet to office
5.) upon arrival to office, raise said mallet above head and swiftly and powerfully lower onto the offensive piece of crap that does not work and has occupied hours of my time by trying to repair through following cryptic directions off offensive product's troubleshooting web site
6.) upon completion, invite mallet to accompany you to kitchen, go to refrigerator, select a cold beer, sit on deck and consume beer with a sigh of relief and a complete sense of accomplishment...ahhhh...
