So we're not even out of the second round yet, and there have been 8 multiple OT games, most ever in one playoffs... 1986 I think was what ESPN said was second, with 7. The amazing thing? 5 of the 8 have gone to triple-OT or beyond, another record. So we really are witnessing history, even if we have to stay up till 12:30 or 1 to do so.

So, the question remains -- why are there so many multiple OT games this year? What is it about these teams that's generating these incredibly long games?

Is this an indication of pretty evenly matched teams? Dueling goalies? Better showing of defense than offense? Does the officiating contribute any, if at all?

Why? That's what I'd like to know. . . . . . .

What's your take on this, folks?

I'd say in the case of the 5 OT Stars/Ducks game a combination of a few of those. Dueling goalies for sure coupled with great defense. There were several great opportunities for both sides in all of those multiple OT games, neither side has consistently just sat back, it's been the goalies that have made save after save after save!

Big Goalie Pads.
This really shows the decline in scoring over the past few years. Perhaps the crackdown on interference has contributed as well, though I can't remember too many interference calls this postseason...

I'll leave this here for a while so you can see, since you obviously never answered my PM.

If you don't start posting something of value, you will be banned. I'm not going to continue to go behind you to delete rude posts, or these moronic ones.

Your dad, Gerry, would be disappointed I am sure (yes, we know who you are)

back to the topic........I think it is both. the goalies have been outstanding and the teams appear evenly matched.

I don't disagree that the goalie pads are huge across the board. I've read the league is going to address it in the offseason and the pads will have to conform to specific dimensions for next season. Guess we'll see if they follow through.

I thought that leg pads already were restricted to a certain size... I know the sticks are, but the shoulder pads aren't... anyone remember who that Canucks goalie was with the huge shoulder pads??? But there is reason to suspect certain goalies for having such huge pads... CuJo is one of the ones that has been mentioned before, can't remember others.

I think the reason, though, for the longer, closer games is the fact that the focus is still on defense, even with the offensive-oriented teams... it's been a long time since the high-scoring days of the 80's. That, plus the fact that once you get past a certain point, you're guaranteed to see a more cautious game, result in longer OT games, but that's just my humble opinion.

Consider the reply from Shell as your one warning bigdaddy. I am not going to put up with this.

It has been a wild playoff series for all of them....Our game with the Wings was kind of an exception last year..but it has become the rule this season....NO OT...shock!!

Overall all the series games have been entertaining...except for a few of the NJ/Boston games...and maybe 1 TB/NJ games....
