Anyone watching ESPN classis as Gretzky tries to break more records? They just showed Gelinas for a while, at a fresh 19 years old.. and talked about how great he already was and what a tremendous player he would be as he got older.. was good to see him :)

It was the Oct 15th, 1989 game where Gretz broke Gordie's record.... notching his 1,851st point. They did an on-ice presentation, which Gordie was there to celebrate. quite fun... even after seeing it several times. :)

unbelieve game between the Oilers (Messier) and the Kings (Gretzky).
I love watching those games from the 80's.

I believe that Gelinas was involved in the trade that brought Gretzky to the Kings...

yup. :)

The other newbie is Martin Gelinas. Gelinas' claim to fame is that he was included in the original Wayne Gretzky deal. Gelinas was around Edmonton for the 1990 Cup win before being traded to Quebec and was eventually picked up on waivers by Vancouver in January, 1994. Gelinas was never really a scorer up until 1995-6, when he scored 30 (he's averaged about 16 per season over his career) and 1996-7, when he notched 35. He's much more a two-way player than Sanderson, but immediately got on Keenan's bad side and it was only matter of time.

"I was pretty fortunate to start in Edmonton," comments Gelinas, a former Kings first-round pick who was part of the Wayne Gretzky megadeal in 1988. "The rivalry back then was incredible. I don't know if it's still the same way now but if it is, I'm really looking forward to it."

After nine seasons with the Edmonton Oilers, a shocking trade was announced. On August 9, 1988, the Oilers dealt Wayne Gretzky, Mike Krushelnyski, and Marty McSorley to the Los Angeles Kings for Jimmy Carson, Martin Gelinas, three first-round picks spread out over five years, and cash.

Thanks for doing my research for me! :D (lazy Kats...)

Also, I believe that the amount of cash involved was reported to be as much as $15 million.
