From the N&O:
NET LOSSES: Carolina is running out of goalies. Kevin Weekes is expected to have season-ending surgery on his right hand Friday. And Patrick DesRochers may have suffered a broken arm during Tuesday's morning skate.
DesRochers went home with a bag of ice on his arm, but Carolina coach Paul Maurice said X-rays before the game indicated a potential fracture.
This is really beyond incredible.... :sad:

hang on, when weekes will have a surgery irbe will come up, but when DesRochers' arm is broken, who will backup irbe? :crazy:

this is just un-freaking-believable. :sad: i really liked watching Patty D too, i was looking forward to seeing him get a few more starts. just when i thought that maybe the injury bug had finally flown away for a bit, it comes back. :mad:
poor lock monsters -- now we're taking all their goalies!

poor lock monsters -- now we're taking all their goalies!

Since we're officially out of the playoffs, I think they should bring both Petruk and Zepp up and leave Irbe down. That way we could see how both of the baby goalies do. I know that the Irbe supporters would hate this idea, but what do we have to lose?

Well, it should be interesting because the 'Blades are in the ECHL playoffs, no?
I don't think it would be wise to bring up 2 goalies that have never played a game in the NHL at the same time - seems like they might need a little voice of experience over their shoulders to just get them through it w/o losing their minds. Irbe may not be a Cane for much longer, but he's obviously embraced the role of mentor to the younger goalies, something that is valuable to the Canes and the players.

I like that idea, but the idea of having Zepp and Petruk come up is good too. I guess this is going to come down to how the "Food Chain" is working. The playoff possibilities for Lowell, Florida and Greensboro all come into play here, as well as the possibility of a call up from junior (Cam Ward?). Also, who is Hurricanes property and who could be loaned to whom as this seems to be becoming "emergency" situations, if not catastrophic conditions. Can you believe this?

So has anyone done the math (or counted heads) to see if we could cover the loss of 2 goalies in 1 week from our team and still have enough goalies to have 2 in Lowell and 2 in Florida?
Would they bring up Irbe and have Weekes postpone his surgery and sit on the bench?
I know it's fun to joke about, but could they suit Tripp up on the bench (not that I expect that to happen, I honestly think he's been banned from even observing practices ;) ) or someone similar?

I believe that Florida has an emergency back-up that is one of their staff members.
