We are renewing our 4 seats in the lower level for a 10 pack. I do have a question (we didn't get ours yet). I thought we'd need to put down our $200/seat deposit even if we decided to do the monthly bank draft thing, but I read elsewhere that your first bank draft would begin in June w/no deposit. What does the paperwork say?
Jeff O Rocks

Let's see....it says...the Deadline for your renewal response is June 1st..Select a Seat begins at the end of June...once you renew, then you let them know if you want to participate in the SAS...
It does say that you have 2 choices to ensure renewal:
1) provide a non-refundable deposit of $200 per seat by 6/1 OR
2) enroll in the interest-free payment program
I guess this is actually what you need: Please note that failure to provide your renewal deposit OR enrollment in an interest-free payment plan by June 1, 2003 can result in loss of season ticket priviledges and priority.
From that last statement, it looks like you can include your deposit in the payments, but they need to have an answer by 6/1......
Eileen, do you actually pick your seat location for a mini-plan?? I haven't had one so I wasn't sure..
Hope I helped answer your question!!

No select a seat for us. We'll probably just request on our form to stay in 113 - it worked last year.

They already have my $400....I didn't know I had a choice with that payment plan. Oh well, I came up with that $400 now so maybe they will let me enroll in the payment plan with the remainder of my balance.
We're upgrading to the 24 pack! And we'll hopefully stay in the same general area in the arena....hopefully move a little more towards center ice but about the same area anyway. Can't wait!! :spin:

Section328Crazy and I have renewed our season tickets in, you guessed it, section 328. We're both counting the weeks until the season begins. Stanley Cup playoffs are cool to watch but when the Canes aren't playing, it just isn't the same. Will September ever get here so we can have some pre-season action????????

maybe it's different for the full STH's.... but for us lowly 24'ers.... there is no OR. you pay a deposit if you want seats. period.
I'm really quite pissed they bumped deposits from $50/seat to $200/seat...

An FYI for those of you that haven't done this yet, and are confused about what you can/can't do in regards to deposits.
Rolling the deposit into the monthly payments can Only be done on a Full ST purchase.... not on 24 or 10 packages. For packages you MUST put the deposit down.
But, I had a very long conversation with our ticket rep, and we came up with an agreeable solution. He agreed with me it was assinine to quadruple the deposit amount when they should be working to keep as many STH's as they can... not alienate the ones who want to stay.
But, of course we'll be there... even if we would have to pay $200/seat the week we return from a major vacation, we would've somehow done it.
oh, and.... I did calculate the monthly costs of a full season. just incase.

Thanks for the update Guy. $200x4 = a big down payment for us! I would say that it'll reduce the balance, but that's still kinda big too. I know we spent a nice sum on the playoffs, but those unecessary game 7s and 6 were nice perk - avoiding a downpayment at all. :eek2:

Has anyone noticed any mistakes in the invoice? We originally bought the regular parking pass, but upgraded part-way through to the premier pass. We have a line item for both pass packets, thus we need to take one of them off. Anyone have a phone number that I could call?

if you don't have a direct # to your Rep, I'd look into getting a new Rep...
the first season we bought a package, our "rep" was never heard from again. I called and found someone else, and talk to him quite regularly, phone, email, etc..
You can probably call the main #, and ask for your guy, or ask for "any" ticket rep, and explain that you may want a new rep. You *should* have a phone # for your guy.

Yeah, well our 10 turned into about 25 this season ;) , but with buying discounted seats outside, sitting upstairs, occasional freebies from work and/or friends, or having only 2 of us go, we still came out ahead than committing to the 24 plan.
It says the interest free stuff is available to us, but it doesn't seem like it will begin until after they assign seats to us 10-packers in August, so it'll be for just a few months I suppose. Again, not complaining....
Guyute
05-07-2003, 02:31 PM
Thanks, I hadn't thought about that. I actually calculated all of my #'s on an 8 month payment schedule (June-Jan). But it'll most likely only be 5 months for 24 or 10 folks, since we don't select seats until August.
that's actually a rather large difference as far as monthly payments go. Probably about an extra $30/mo for us. And not all that far off of the monthly payments for a full season. lol.
dammit. they're trying to make this a close call to try and squeeze us into Fulls.

From our rep: (note that Full holders will supposedly be selecting their seat around the end of June)
You are correct about the 24/10 planholders payment start date being later than the full holders. The way that it looks right now, is we will be having the 24 game plan select a seat event in late July so that we can start charging the accounts in August. Therefore you will have 6 months to pay off the tickets.
With that being said, changes are always possible. If for some reason something goes wrong with the Full season select a seat and we need to have people come back out or something like that, we may need to push the 24 game plan select a seat back a couiple of weeks into August, but for now the original plan is to have your payment plan start in August. Hope this helps, take care.

Last year there was select a seat for full STH and if you didn't find anything, but still wanted to look again you signed up for a later one when most of the seats that weren't renewed would be known. I changed mine after 2 years because of the edge of the netting between 108 and 107. I found my current seats the 2nd selection night, but there weren't many other people there that night. Renewing full STH usually make changes early if they change so hopefully everyone can make up their minds and there will be great seats still available.
any news on the expected % of renewals? I'm staying put this year ;)

I guess it's too soon to tell for sure, but I thought I'd read somewhere else that "someone's" ticket rep said they were really pleased with the renewals. Now, how they could be pleased when the deadline hasn't even passed, I'm not sure, but maybe the ticket reps have a feel for who they've spoken to, etc. It'll be interesting...

Kat.....you pay $264.00 for the year. 41 regular season and 3 preseason games. I think that's $6 per game. you get one pass to each game (different color pass for each one).
and speaking of preseason, it annoys me we have to pay full price for those 3 games again this year.

They didn't put anything in about rolling parking passes into ticket prices, but there was a bit about rolling the parking pass price into the monthly payments (I think John read that wrong initially, Kat). We have thought about getting the pass, but one pass for 4 seats seemed like too much trouble - we'd have to figure which of the 4 people going to a given game gets the pass. It would make more sense if we carpooled more.

Cool. I was being asked about it (by fiance), so thought I would post the question here to see who knew what (this place is the best source of Canes info).
Yeah, it definitely seems like too much trouble for those of us that split seats... how to split the cost, who gets the pass when 2 sets of people are going in 2 different cars, stuff like that. It probably works pretty good for full STH or minipacks, though.

I spent a little time today talking with my ticket rep. We opted to go in with 3 other families to split 4 season tickets. It was very last minute (we were subbing for a family that dropped out) and we decided to use this as a way to supplement our 10 game mini plan. Our 10 game plan will be lower level and the 10 game as part of the season tickets will be upper. The way this group is set up is that each family has 1 ticket - so in a sense (and in reality) I'm a season ticket holder of 1 seat now! So I guess we'll be fighting over that 1 STH ticket to the dinner/autograph night ;)
ANYWAY (I'm long winded today), in chatting with my rep at the RBC, he said that while they are seeing a drop off, he said that virtually none had to do with the team's performance - that people were citing economic reasons. Of course, I realize that if the Canes had a stellar season, that more people would somehow find the finances to renew those tickets, but anyway, it doesn't seem like there are hordes of pissed off former STH. That's good. :)

Thanks. I'm sure it will work out. Buzz is one of the reps out of the office till Monday. I would be glad to move on to another one, but what has happened in the past is that someone will say, just call me and when I do they've moved on or don't call back. It drives me NUTS. For me, it has always been the worst part of dealing with the Canes. I'm going to the RBC today and if I haven't heard from anyone, I'll just deal with whoever is there.

No, I think we'll be doing 24 (i have a big tv to buy, and a 125 gallon fish tank to finish. lol) . but shell's folks upped to a full season this year, and her mom is out of town quite frequently. which leads me to believe we'll take turns using the extra ticket, and the other one will go anyway and but a cheapie.

I have a question for STHs.
I noticed that it looks like STHs get to purchase add'l tickets for STH prices (before they go on sale to the public). The last 2 years as a MPH (Mini Plan Holder) I was able to order ahead of the public, but it was at gate price. So, that'a benefit that my little 1 seat is going to give us that we weren't even counting on.
My question is, do you get the STH price for any seats in the arena, or just the seats in your ticket level?
Thanks.

Anyway, have fun all you folks doing select-a-seat. I'm not sure what's gonna get everyone thru July and August, but between the Cup finals, the draft, and select a seat, I suppose June has enough distractions.
I do have a question. Since I'm a STH (even though it's just for 1 seat and we are splitting 4 seats with 4 families), I think I get a discount at the Eye store? Do I get something in the mail that indicates I'm a STH for that purpose?

You'll get a STH card with your name and account # on it. You can pick them up at several games when they are ready. They have tables set up in the concourse. They mail them if they are not picked up, I think. I've always just picked mine up at a game.

Well since they did the seats in an unusual way (each family is the primary owner for 1 seat - all 4 seats are together - then the seats are divided up for 10 games for each family), I'm a STH. I thought it was a little strange, but it works out well because each family has the same benefits w/o having to jump thru many hoops - like when wanting to add seats at games, etc.
Since we were transferring ownership of 2 of the 4 seats, the 2 new people (me being one) had to pay the seat in full. Ouch on the debit card. We still have to pay for the mini-plan, but may do that on the monthly thing.
Edited to add: Congrats Hyena - I didn't think you were a full STH last year. Enjoy the plunge!

After a paragraph announcing that they are "upgrading our ticket system" and that more detailed info would be available in the near future, it says the following:
Season Ticket Account Manager
*Use the internet to manage your Hurricanes account in real time directly through carolinahurricanes.com.
*Make renewal and playoff payments online, edit your account profile and track ticket usage.
Bar Coded Ticket Technology at the RBC Center
*This technology will expedite your entrance into the building, as tickets will be scanned and not ripped at the entrance. It will also provide increased counterfeiting protection, and assist in the replacement of lost/stolen tickets.
*Print at home convenience for ticket transfers: through this cutting-edge technology your tickets can now be virtualized and sent electronically to friends, family, and co-workers. Forwarded tickets have their own unique bar code and the original bar coded ticket is voided.
*Purchase additional individual game tickets through your season ticket account and receive the "tickets" as an email.
And it looks like parking is still $7, btw.

I'll be curious to see how the online account management stuff works - sounds like it could be very convenient. :)

Speaking of tantrums, I'm considering one myself.
The thought (finally) occured to me that instead of supplementing our 10 games as part of a Season Ticket package (each family "owns" 1 seat of 4 together) with a 10-game mini-plan, that the STH price for additional seats are cheaper. Soooo, we should just buy whatever games we want in whatever price level we want and skip the whole mini-plan. Right?
Guess what. I've already put down the $100 mini-plan deposit and I'm told it can't be refunded. That $100 can only be used for mini-plans, STHs, or playoff tickets. Keep in mind that I have already paid for my Season Ticket in full, but put down the mini-plan deposit to keep our priority.
To further complicate things (read: piss me off), I mentioned our plan to add a mini-plan to my ticket rep when I was paying for my Season Ticket in full and he never mentioned the more financially advantageous and flexible way to go about supplementing.
So I'd be better off if I'd either NOT paid the Season Ticket in full (and could apply the $100 to the balance) or if I'd let June 1 go by and not paid add'l money to keep our mini-plan priority (which is probably nothing anyway). In either case, I'm screwed because I paid more money up front. Clear as mud?
Ugh. I'm really ticked. Anyone think I have a leg to stand on?

So, Eileen, they won't let you just have that $100 (and I thought the deposit was $200 for some reason...I thought we paid $400 for 2 seats) as a credit on your account from which they can deduct the cost of the extra games you buy? That's pretty freakin' stupid if so. I mean you upgraded to a full ST already. I would personally think that as many times as ticket reps have bent over backwards for me, that they would give in on this one....unless something has changed. Maybe since we aren't in the middle of an absolutely horrendous season that makes them feel like they should bend over backwards for you???

Yeah, the thought just occured to me that if by some stroke of terrible cruelness that the Canes don't make the playoffs, then perhaps they'd just let it ride until the following season (presuming of course there is one).
If the Canes make the playoffs, then of course, we'll be there and this will get us $100 toward that.
Hopefully we'll work it out on Monday. It would help if he gave me the whole picture right off the bat, first he said I'd "lose it", then he said I could apply it to Season, Mini Plan, or Playoff tickets only - but didn't say it carrying over was an option.

hard to say if they will or not. last year they didn't have the nets in yet, so it wasn't an option. had to pick seats assuming what the nets would be like. they did however hang the suspension bar that the top of the net attaches too (which is Way more distracting than the net itself, imo).

I have a question for all the sth pros...I know its all personal preference, but would you guys chose to go to less games in the lower bowl (splitting season tickets) or more games in the upper? We keep going back and forth, and the decision is made harder by the fact that we aren't sure if our 6 and 3 yr old can handle going to 40 some games a year. I'd love to hear some of your experiences.
nccanes
06-18-2003, 09:45 AM
As usual with these hard decisions, "it depends".
I don't really know a 3 year old that would enjoy 40 some hockey games a year - if he/she's not having fun, probably you won't be either.
Last year we had a 10 game mini plan and added 4 add'l games immediately. We added games here and there throughout the course of the season, with me/hubby going to almost 30 and my kids (boys 11 and 7) going to more than 20. They loved it. My older one could go to as many as I'd take him to. My younger one loves it too, but sometimes after a long week, a Friday night game was even tiresome for him. And as I've mentioned, these are boys that have every stick brand/taping method/skate brand of every player memorized - they really watch and get into the game. Even so, when they run out of gas, it's hard on the little ones.
To contrast my experience, I have friends who had 4 seats for 20-games. After 2 seasons of 20 games the felt that their boys (11 and 13) didn't value the games enough to justify the expense (and these are boys that play hockey themselves). They felt the kids took it for granted and were a little too casual about going. They've reduced their seats to 2 for 24 games and they'll add seats for some games and switch off taking them for others.
My instinct is to go for fewer games. You can ALWAYS add games at the STH price (if you can work that out w/whomever you're splitting tickets with) and you can add them upper or lower.
Whew - that was too long. :eek2: Sorry.

Good points. Thanks. If we split lower bowl, it would be jsut 2 tickets for ourselves, and we would supplement every now and then with 4 tix for the whole family. if we do full tix upper bowl, there is no way that i would subject myself or the poor souls around me to my 3 yr old 40 times a year. She can do about 2 games a month without becoming obnoxious. So then we are looking at taking turns going and giving the extra ticket away. I guees the hard truth is that i want a mini plan for four in lower bowl and there is no such animal.

With kids that age I would probably go for less games in the lower bowl. We have two girls, a five year old and a 2 year old. They both love the canes, but even then it can be hard on school nights. We split a 24-plan with my parents so that we went to 12-15 games a year. That gave them and us enough of a hockey fix without leaving the kids sleep deprived. We sat in the lower level at the corners. The kids liked being close to the action...they were more likely to see Stormy, catch a shirt and of course get on the Jumbotron! Hope that helps.

huh? no mini plans in 1st level? that doesn't seem right.
can't say I looked... we got grandfathered into $12 seats as plan/sth's.. so we don't plan on giving them up until they kick us out. but I find it very hard to believe they're not selling packs on the 1st level. ???

I guees the hard truth is that i want a mini plan for four in lower bowl and there is no such animal.
I'm confused. We've had a mini-plan on the Lower Level for 2 straight seasons.
You can get 10, 20, or 24 games in the Lower Level - just not the sideline premier sections.

Sorry for the confusion. Shoulda specified center ice. You can get north and south lower for the 24 game plan, or north only for 10 game. I just really love sec 103 or whereabouts. Thanks for all your suggestions, guys.

I vote for more games also...but I don't have kids  ....I can tell you that I missed one game all season, and it was a rush to get home (if you have to and we do cause of indoor doggies) and then rush back to the arena...I wouldn't trade the experience of every game for anything, but weeks with 2 or 3 games, can be quite hectic...
...with that said...I say go for MORE GAMES!! :D ;)

My ticket rep told me that they WOULD have the nets up for all the select-a-seat events this year. So assuming he's not full of it....
I vote more games, upper level too....but I too don't have kids. I do live an hour away (and will actually have a hard time making it to the arena on time for a weeknight game this season because of my school schedule) and the weeknights can get hectic. Just ask my grades from last semester. But, being an upper bowl dweller, I've had ancy little kids near me and I can usually deal with it....and I generally don't like kids much so that's a pretty big deal. But I've also never had one right beside of me....although that would still beat the jerk-Detroit fan I had beside me this year.

i also vote for more games. i had the same decision to make, but it wasn't much of a decision for me. :D as long as i'm in the building for as many games as possible, i'm happy. :spin: but then again, i don't have kids either.

Have any of you 24-game pack holders heard when your select-a-seat date is?

Nooooooooooooooo!!!
Dear Hurricanes Season and Mini Plan Ticket holder,
It is with mixed emotions, both happy and sad, that effective June 27th I will be officially leaving the Carolina Hurricanes organization.
I have accepted a great opportunity with the NBA's Orlando Magic. At this time in my career I feel this opportunity is too good to pass up. I will begin the next step in my career as an Account Executive for the Magic organization starting in July.
In the near future, a new account representative will be assigned to you. If you have any questions please feel free to contact me until June 27th at 861-5453. After the 27th, you may reach an available representative by dialing (919) 861-2300. I wish the Hurricanes the best of luck next season and in the future. I will always be a Hurricanes fan in my heart. Thank you again for your all your continued support and LET'S GO CANES!!!!
Sincerely,
William "Buzz" Wilkie
Someone that has been with their rep for a bit and has been very happy with them, please give me a name, so I can request them. This has me real bummed... considering the other 2 I've tried out have been very poor. Buzz was the bomb, and will be missed.

I've been meaning to mention, since Buzz pissed me off last week - he did call me yesterday and got my whole issue resolved about the $100 credit. So, I got this email too and wished him well. I've enjoyed having him this past season.
I'm still bummed that Kristin got kicked to the curb last summer - she was a great rep for me the previous season.

I was delayed at a airport in Atlanta overnight last season. Next day was a game I wanted to go to, but would only have 20 min from when the plane landed to get to the game and my tickets were at home.
I gave PJ a call and he had tickets waiting at the box office when we arrived.
Goes out of his way to make sure his STH are happy. :spin:

I'm sad, too, about Buzz. I just finally got around to checking my home E-mail.
I wrote him a note to congratulate him and thank him, then I put: P.S. There isn't any way you could see that we're assigned to John Haluch, is there?
so-- we'll see what he says. John was a great help to us once when Buzz was out-of-town.

I'm glad to hear PJ has (maybe) gotten better. I don't know that I'd give him another chance for us though. Several years ago, when we first signed up for a plan... he was the one who I signed with, and who was going to be our ticket rep. I Never heard from him after giving my deposit. Not the entire season.
I like a little communication when we spend several grand per season there... and he just didn't do that for us. Thanks for the input though, and I'm glad you're happy with him :)

this is my 2nd year with PJ and i have no complaints. i was a mini-plan holder last year and didn't really hear from him much, but then again, i didn't see a reason to. (plus, being a STH for the first time ever i didn't really know what to expect.) this time however, because i'm upgrading, i had a billion questions for him (i feel like i've practically been stalking him, in fact, lol) and he has always been happy to answer me quickly and he responds to emails FAST....i give him a http://www.electrichyena.com/other/redthumb.gif

Didn't PJ win the Clay Aiken look-alike contest?
There must be more money with the NBA. Our rep (Blake McGee) left to go to Charlotte's new team. I've been pleased with the few times I've spoken to our new rep, DJ Ketchabaw. He doesn't seem to get tired of stupid questions, always a plus when dealing with me.

DJ is our rep! While he doesn't keep in constant contact (but I'm with Hyena, didn't know to expect that he might and honestly would rather he leave me alone until I have a question) he's always been great to answer any questions we might have and also bent the rules for us once this season.
When we called to tell them we wanted to upgrade our mini-pack for the upcoming season DJ was out and we dealt with John. He was awesome too.

note that I didn't mean that I was expecting weekly phone calls to ask how I was doing. lol
but there were several occasions where STH surveys (and things like that) would be sent/emailed, and we never saw anything. I was calling to find out things that should've been told to us w/out needing to check.
things like that bother me when we're spending the amount of money we do there.
maybe it's just me.

I think it is good that they have started sending out emails to ticket holders. Whenever a press release has come out, John sends out copies...I agree that it is a good idea to keep in touch throughout the year...makes you feel included!!

Are you moving, Mona? Mary went tonight for her select a seat. She is moving away from me and Jennifer. I guess we embarrass her.... or we make her mad when we pick on her for wearing the opposing team's jersey!
