I don't know if anyone has noticed, but I've been working on the front page again, ie http://www.letsgocanes.com.
It is still a work in progress, and I am trying to make it fit with the board's style.
I need some help though. I order to make this what I have in mind, I need game recaps, previews, and team/nhl editorial columns.
So if anyone would like to contribute to the site, and get bylines and credits, please post here on PM me. If you would like to write anything at all, it would be awesome.
Obviously I can't pay anyone to do these things, but I will toss an LGC t-shirt or other item your way...

Also, if anyone has any video clips, photos or sound bytes that they would like to contribute, that would be awesome as well.

Where does the game recap come from? Didn't we play Florida last night?
Canes keep home win streak alive versus Atlanta, improving to 7-0

The Hurricanes extended the best start in franchise history on Saturday night, as Rod Brind-Amour and Niclas Wallin scored a pair of third period goals to beat the Florida Panthers 2-0 at home.
Carolina is now 10-2-1 and with it's seventh home win tied the franchise record set in 1985. The Hurricanes also earned a point for the 10th game in a row. The team improve to 7-0 at home and extended the team record for consecutive home wins.
Eric Staal's assist added to his scoring streak, taking it to 8 games while Martin Gerber had 27 saves and earned his second shutout of the season.
Rod Brind'Amour found the back of the net for the first time midway through the third on a power play. Brind'Amour received a pass from Oleg Tverdovsky and slapped the puck past Atlanta goaltender Robert Luongo to set a 1-0 score at 11:29.
Another goal came a few minutes later as Wallin put a rebound in off a 2-1 break for Eric Cole and Eric Staal at 14:35.

Anybody knowledgable enough to do power rankings?

well, I tend to watch a little hockey. heh.
usually at least 1-2 entire games, parts of 4-6. granted, I pay slightly more attention to the EC than the WC, but.. I still keep an eye on everyone. having serveral fantasy teams going helps that too.
if it's just a matter of PM'ing you with a top 3 or something, I could do that. only trouble would be remembering to do it. ;)

Hey I wouldn't mine "Guyute's Top 3" of the week or something like that...

well there's a bit of a thought... "power rankings" kind of bore me a bit. it's quite arbitrary, and there's always more than 3 teams that are playing pretty impressive hockey. picking 3 doesn't really mean much. really, have a look at TSN's rankings right now. Ottawa, Canes, Flyers. How can you not have Detroit in there? could also make a case for a couple of others.
anyway... maybe a "Teams on the move" section instead.. like the 3 Hot teams of the week. /shrug
I dunno. just "talking" aloud.
I guess in some cases, the "hot" teams would mirror the power rankings.. but, not always.
3 hot teams right now I'd say Ottawa (duh), Canes (again, duh. hehe) and Dallas. Dallas isn't on the "power ranking" radar yet, but last 3 games have included a 9-1 thumping of Chicago, and then Turco getting his game back on track with back to back wins including a shutout of Edmonton.
I wouldn't want to play the Stars this week.

Don't let our never-ending stream of new articles fool you, folks, we still need some people who would be willing to write game reviews and previews. We're looking at a system where somebody does every other game, or every other game preview, or something like that...if you're interested and willing, please PM Caniac to set something up. We'd really appreciate the help!

More changes to the front page. It gets more and more like how I envision it with each change.
The coolest thing now is at the top left. The "Next Game" auto-updates and is in color for home games and gray for away games.

Congratulations on the growth of your site -- and it comes at a very opportune time. We've sent a link to it to a lot of folks in our Canadian divisions, as their interest in the Hurricanes has risen dramatically. Instead of the usual paternalistic attitude, most of them now fear a game against the boys from the south. ha!
