This is airing on May 8th at 7 P.M. for those interested. I was thinking a few days ago about the special earlier this year being called The Season Part 1 and wondering when there would be a part 2. I didn't watch any of Part 1 but I'm assuming this is just dealing with the regular season? Perhaps they need to do a part 3 though where we get to relive the sweep? :D Sorry Wings fans.

Yes, but do they address the persistent UNdress of Darren McCarty? THIS is the REAL question. hahahah :eek2:

No seriously, I got this marked on me little calendar. Thanks for the reminder!! :smoke:

I'm assuming Part 2 will talk about Yzerman returning, the acquisition of Mathieu Schneider, probably a bunch of random off ice stuff, and unfortunately the loss in round 1.

And Grinder's CD release party, and the whole Sergei controversy.

And I'm sure that the crying from the Wings fans after getting the broom will be much with the amusement value, too.

That seems pretty rude to say to a Wings fan who has done nothing of the sort here. At least they made it to round 1!

And they won as many games as we did.

Perhaps I'm being rather on the harsh side, but I have little sympathy to give the Red Wings or their fans after the gross amount of disrespect and condescension shown to us by all but maybe 20 people last season.

Yes, but will there be *naked* Steve Yzerman? I want to know that I'll truly be getting what I want out of this. I mean really. ;)

I wonder if they'll say something about trading Avery as well. After all, the kid was in a pretty sizable segment of the first half. It would only be right to say something about his departure.

RIO, you're such a good sport!

Anyone know if they'll re-run the Part I before Part II airs? I only got to see part of it.

I can understand where you are coming from in a sense StormShaman. I hate the Colorado Avalanche, and think that many of their fans are complete idiots. So I would also probably think about a comment like that.

I agree that there are some really dumb Wings fans, that are just Wings fans and not hockey fans. So whatever they did or said they probably don't have a clue as to what they are talking about. And those are probably the same people that freaked out and jumped off the bandwagon when the Wings were eliminated.

But anyways back to the Season...

A naked Yzerman, now that would be a sight to see lol. I really hope they don't have a ton on Avery. I never really liked him, and they spent way too much time on him during Part 1.

*puts hand to forehead dramatically and sighs* You don't know how I suffer without a peep of complaint. I....I can take it.... I do it for the greater good. I'll sacrifice myself....

*glances around to see if anyone's looking, then sighs loudly again*

This has now been bumped to May 9th at 7:30 P.M. I'm assuming to avoid conflict with game 7 of the Wild/Canucks series.

Ok, i'm so glad I checked this thread because if I had turned on the tv tonight and there was no Captain Steve, I woulda been pretty irked.

Alright.... time to go correct my calendar.... thanks for the heads-up, Folg. :)

This is just another reason why I hate ESPN. They aren't postponing it due to the Wild/Canucks game, it's because there is an NBA game on.

FOr those that care to know here is what Part 2 is about:

THE SEASON: DETROIT RED WINGS A TWO-PART LOOK AT THE DEFENDING STANLEY CUP CHAMPIONS

NEW YORK (May 8, 2003) - ESPN's Original Entertainment series, The Season, (a reality based program on athletes and teams,) presents Part Two of its look inside the Detroit Red Wings. Narrated by “24” star, and avid hockey fan, Kiefer Sutherland, The Season, Part Two takes viewers on an hour-long emotional roller-coaster through the second half of the 2002-2003 campaign in Hockeytown, from their fourth consecutive 100 point finish to their abrupt playoff elimination. The Season, Part Two debuts Friday, May 9 at 7:30 p.m. ET on ESPN. The show also can be seen on ESPN on Sunday, May 11 at 2 p.m. ET, as well as on ESPN2 Tuesday, May 13 at 1 a.m. ET and Wednesday, May 14 at 10 p.m. ET.

The Season, Part Two will give viewers an inside look at the following:

· RETURN OF THE CAPTAIN – The Season was on hand to record Steve Yzerman’s emotional return to the rink on February 24 against the LA Kings. The team’s longstanding captain of 17 seasons began the year on injured reserve, rehabbing his knee from extensive surgery.

· “HOCKEYWOOD”- Hollywood and Hockeytown will never be the same as the Red Wings introduce us to the entertaining world of professional hockey in Detroit, Michigan both on and off the ice. These Red Wings players are as revered amongst their fans as any star is in Hollywood.

· TRADE DEADLINE – The Season was given complete access to Detroit’s activity during the NHL Trade deadline, featuring general manager Ken Holland and the acquisition of perennial All-Star defenseman Mathieu Schneider.

· KID ROCK – Detroit’s own rock star, Kid Rock, provides a celebrity perspective to the Red Wings season

· GETTING PERSONAL – The Season takes a personal look into the family lives of the Detroit Red Wings. Chris Chelios, Luc Robitaille and Darren McCarty are just a few of the players to share their cars, homes and hobbies.

· PLAYOFF RUN – With Detroit’s fourth consecutive 100-point season, the series is able to have rare dressing room access, on-ice audio and ice level images that capture the action, the drama and the agony of an early locker cleanout. The Mighty Ducks of Anaheim abruptly knocked the Wings out of the playoffs in a 4-game sweep. [/quote]

WOOO HOOO!!!! I just got home and I was sitting here lamenting that I had missed it! Then I come here and find out I didn't!!! WOW!! Is it my night or what....so that either means it looks good for the Nucks or it looks bad because this was the only favor I get for the evening. We'll have to wait and see I guess.

Dang it - we missed the first 30 minutes. But I have to say what we did see was fascinating and hilarious. The trade deadline day negotiations were far more blasé then I expected (watching a game on TV and chatting on cell phones - "Let's just take whichever deal comes thru first"). I remember seeing Sean Avery play against the Canes as a King on 3/16 and what a little nasty thing he was. So (with a tiny smidge of remorse) I totally snickered when he got sent down when Yzerman returned in Feb. and Ken Holland was talking about him being "the future".

Then I cackled hysterically when they showed the fans and players preparing for Game 1 of the first round and talking about winning another cup ("I see no problem with....blah, blah, blah).

Anyway, I have to keep an eye out for when it's aired again. I want to catch the whole thing on tape.

I had use tv.yahoo.com to find this (after looking repeatedly at the espn site):

• The Season - "Detroit Red Wings, Part II"
ESPN2, Sat May 10 11:00pm EDT

• The Season - "Detroit Red Wings, Part II"
ESPN2, Tue May 13 07:00pm EDT

• The Season - "Detroit Red Wings, Part II"
ESPN2, Tue May 20 01:00am EDT

No clue if this is correct.....

I thought that this part was nicely done. I was glad that this one didn't concentrate on Sean Avery the whole friggin time. I know this may sound horrible, but I am glad that he was traded. As for Holland saying he was part of the Wings "the future" that's complete crap. Datsyuk, Zetterberg, Fischer are some of the future, Avery isn't, and obviously will never be.

But anyways, for those McCarty fans there is some cute stuff with him and his kids, and like 2 seconds of his CD premeire shown. Unfortunately for some of you he has his shirt on majority of the time. ;)

Sonds completely logical to me...I hated the guy. But, then, I'm no Detroit fan either but I can get why you wouldn't like him.

:p ;)

Here's a question for any of the Wings fans out there....anyone know what the origin of the name "Red Wings" is? I swear I read it somewhere once but I can't remember and I sure can't find it now. Thanks!

Nevermind....I forgot to check letsgowings.com. Found this:
James Norris, a grain broker from Chicago, bought the team and renamed it Red Wings after the Winged Wheelers, a team Norris played for in Montreal during his youth. Norris also imported the wheel insignia which he saw was a natural representation of Detroit's place as the center of the nation's automobile industry.

Thanks though!
