The Columbus Blue Jackets retained two of their top three goal scorers from the 2002-03 season as left wing Geoff Sanderson and right wing David Vyborny have each agreed to terms with the club, President and General Manager Doug MacLean announced Wednesday.

Sanderson inked a multi-year contract, while Vyborny agreed to terms on a one-year deal. As is club policy, terms were not disclosed.

Sanderson, 31, tallied 34 goals and 33 assists for 67 points with 34 penalty minutes in 82 games this season, hitting the 30-goal mark for the sixth time in his NHL career and second in three seasons as a Blue Jacket.

He rebounded from an injury-plagued 2001-02 season to post his best year since 1996-97 when he racked up 36 goals and 67 points in 82 games with Hartford. He led Columbus and ranked 18th in the NHL with a club-record 34 goals and also set club marks for power play goals (15/6th-tied in the NHL) and shots on goal (286/8th in the NHL).

Sanderson scored a club-record and career-high four goals, including a natural hat trick in the second period, and added an assist to tie the Blue Jackets mark for points with five at Calgary on Mar. 29, collecting the eighth hat trick of his career and second with Columbus (vs. Nashville on Feb. 10, 2001).

He scored a goal in a club-record seven-straight games (8 goals) from Nov. 5-17, matching the longest goal streak in the NHL this season (Colorado's Milan Hejduk - 8 goals from Feb. 11-23).

Sanderson picked up two assists at Detroit on Dec. 26 in the 800th game of his NHL career and tallied his 300th career goal with his second in the season finale at Minnesota on Apr. 6.

Sanderson, who scored 23 goals on the road, finished the season with 10 goals and 22 points in his last 19 games, including 7 goals and 11 points in his last five outings.

Selected by the Blue Jackets in the 2000 Expansion Draft, he has tallied 75 goals, 139 points and 92 penalty minutes in 192 games during his three seasons in Columbus.

A native of Hay River, Northwest Territories, Sanderson will enter his 14th NHL season in 2003-04. He has 300 goals, 276 assists, 576 points and 355 penalty minutes in 848 career games with Hartford/Carolina, Vancouver, Buffalo and Columbus.

Vyborny, 27, is coming off his best season in the NHL as he collected career highs with 20 goals, 26 assists and 46 points in 79 games. He became the sixth player in club history to score 20 goals in a season, joining Sanderson, Steve Heinze, Ray Whitney, Mike Sillinger and Andrew Cassels.

Vyborny also set a Blue Jackets franchise record with a +12 plus/minus rating and was even or plus in 64-of-79 games during the 2002-03 season. He also ranked second on the club with four game-winning goals, was third in goals, fourth in points and fifth in games played and assists.

The Jihlava, Czech Republic native has spent all three of his NHL seasons with Columbus after signing with the club as a free agent on June 8, 2000. In 233 career games, he has registered 46 goals, 63 assists, 109 points and 44 penalty minutes.

He is currently representing the Czech Republic at the World Championships, marking the sixth time in the last seven years he has done so. He has helped the Czech Republic win three gold (1996, '99, 2000) and two bronze (1997, '98) medals.
