KING REPORT
Roenick Says He Belongs on Turin Team
Pete Thomas

Jeremy Roenick has made his argument. Tonight he'll try to back it up against the Carolina Hurricanes.

Their head coach, Peter Laviolette, will also coach Team USA at the Winter Olympics in February in Turin, Italy.

Roenick was asked whether he expects to be chosen. "I better be," the King center said. "It would be a travesty if I'm not…. I know they want a youth movement, and they need to have one, but it'd be disrespectful of the guys who have gotten Team USA to this point internationally."

Some of those veterans are Chris Chelios of the Detroit Red Wings, Derian Hatcher of the Philadelphia Flyers, and Mike Modano and Bill Guerin of the Dallas Stars.

Roenick, who turns 36 on Jan. 17, said if he isn't chosen, "they better hope that I don't get a job as a commentator on NBC for [the Games], or it'd be 'Go Canada' all the way, and I don't want that."

I didn't even know Roenick was still in the NHL, I watched the entire Kings/leafs game the other night and didn't notice him at all.

Maybe that would have more to do with him not being on the team besides him being old and washed up.

Roenick was recently hospitalized with pneumonia (I believe it was that) while in TO.

Roenick is the kind of person whose quotes, when read in print, make it difficult to know if he's joking around or not. I presume his 'pulling for Canada' was merely an attempt at humor.

Roenick's stats this year:

26 games
5 goals
6 assists
-2 +/-

Oooh, my bad- I just put this in the Kings thread.... yeah, that Roenick, you just don't know what to make of him, but my guess is that USA hockey will be shaking their heads at this bit from Roenick. I don't see him on Team USA- that ship has sailed and it should be a changing of the guard. So I guess JR needs to break out with the Red & White..... :canada: eh?

what a class guy-- put me on your team or else I pull for Canada... do you think he stomped his foot, crossed his arms and puffed out his bottom lip for emphasis?

I am sure he was kidding. JR is an American player. No way in hell will he be rooting for Canada.
