Yeah.... awake..... 5 hours sleep.... grumble....grumble.... where's some coffee?
Finally! The last game of their Pacific coast swing! Yippee!! These late night this week have been killing me....... but ...... at least the guys are doing pretty well. This away stretch currently stands at 3-1-1 --- Let's add a 4th "W" boys!!
Puck drops at 10:30PM/Eastern, again! (at least I don't have to work the next day! )
LET'S GO 'CANES!!

Just work hard and continue to clear the puck. Hedi had some bad bounces off of him last night.. good thing it none of them bit us.
One more win and get back home safe and sound guys. :spin:

Thornton, Thornton, Thornton ... blah, blah, blah.
The guy we have to stop is Patrick Marleau ... four straight three-point nights since the trade.
Go get 'em boys!

I'm sure that having Joe on the other line has helped him since you just can't key on One Line.

Hopefully I can stay awake for this one (definitely fell asleep in the third period last night!!)...
Marleau is a beast... he's been helping out my fantasy team quite a bit lately. We do definitely need to keep him under control.

I just found it on alternate 646 (regular FSN south is 630)... and this channel did not show up in an ealier search for hockey. Center Ice is still blacked out. I'm about ready to strangle someone at DirecTV.

Is it just me or is the FSN camera work way off tonight ? They are struggling to find the puck, and how many tight shots of a player on the bench do I want to see when a team is attacking across the blue line ? How about NONE !
Nice job by our boys so far.

OK, so, not that I'm blaming the fact that we're now allowing a goal every 5 seconds on it, just a timing issue, but who the hell are these refs? (rhetorical, it's Shik and Leggo...I already know they need to be chucked out the window) And did they completely miss the memo on enforcing the rules this year?
I think the meltdown has officially begun, tonight. :eek2:
I don't blame Gerber for being pissed. If the refs had bothered to call ANYTHING tonight, or if we'd bothered to hit ANYTHING tonight, maybe they wouldn't be running him right and left.

Why is it that officiating on the West coast is so awful? Do they really have that hard of a time getting people to come to games?

I'm not one to blame officials, but it clearly cost us at least a point tonight. Absurd.

Well, interesting that Tripp/John talk about what was good about the game, but don't point out the eleventy billion shots they allowed.
Anyway, the whining about Craig's scratched nose was stupid, it was clearly follow thru, but the Kevyn diving and the outside the 'zoid was baaad. And actually I think Gerber got 2 for "being pissed". The guy took his stick away and it looked like Gerber just *tried* to take a swing at him, but didn't make contact. I thought that was a bad call too.
I realize they had too many turnovers and defensive lapses, but having all those 'bad breaks' happen in 1 period kinda sucked.

Well ****... Thornton seems to be on his way to the scoring title...
Good thing I completely forgot about this game...
On the bright side, this is like the first time in 5 games that the Sharks scored less than 5 goals right?

If you're looking for positives, well, then yes. Yes it is.
Too bad the Canes couldn't score 5 themselves.

Oh - and an interesting array of line configurations - it was like "who will dance with whom next"?
Off to look at the shift chart.

I don't normally blame a loss on officiating either.... but.. damn.
I felt like we were playing TO in TO last night with as bad as that was.
A dive on KA?? as he was breaking into the zone? absolute absurdity.
and Nabby's play of the puck late in the game not being called would've Floored me.... but by that time I already knew we weren't going to get a break.
overall record of the road swing was Much better than I planned it'd be a week ago.

this was one of those games where the Canes' effort just looked random. officiating aside, because I don't think it cost us the game, they looked as if they had no idea that the Thornton line was going to actually shoot the puck. how does that line get 1000 shots on goal with mininal effort? they did collect 7 of 12 on a long road trip so that is not bad as points go. when they looked bad on this swing, they looked really bad IMO and when they looked good, they looked really good. not a lot in between.
oh well, back home for a long stretch. let's see what we have going on by the end of the year.

Well- I let the whole day go without thinking about this game, but just finished watching ATL lose in a SO to CHI and now watching CLB v NJ, and three of those four teams are our next opponents.
I'm good with the 7 of 12 points dealio- but I'm really not happy with the bazillion shots on goal by the opposition. We've got to tighten things up. And I too thought the Thornton line just moved in at will and got shots on at will. I had a bad feeling after the 5 on 3 in the first, and something just not feeling right at all and there you go, me thinknig out loud and I cursed them. UGH. The officiating, as already stated was horrible, and I never ever, pay attention to it normally, so it was really bad.
The line jumbling was curious to me as well- I think the 'leg ailment' or whatever it is that had Staal leaving practice early like Chuck mentioned in the pregame on Thursday, obviously is affecting him, because he seemed a little invisible until he scored on Nabokov. I thought it was wierd for Nordgren to be on the Staal line, but ok...... and the midget line-I mean Whitney/Cullen/LaRose, actually looked ok to me
Well, they're all back here in Raleigh, so back to work tommorow and get ready for this nice long homestand. We could have done alot worse out west, so I'll take them rebounding in socal after a disastrous start as the positive of the trip- and we'll move on. And none of this "the first game back after a road trip" nonsense
