ASU has always been tough in football. I remember them giving State all they could handle..and I believe they have beaten us before...

Best of luck.. I will be cheering for them and thrilled for them WHEN they win. ;)

They are leading right now (21-16, 3:30 left in the 4th) but it's been an UGLY game. 90 million turnovers. Doesn't help that the quarterback is injured. He's playing anyway but man, he's hurting.

WE WON!!!!!!

Can't believe it because in the last minute and a half of the game they made the single worst play call I have ever seen in my life. Absolutely the worst thing I've ever seen. Or maybe it was the best play calling I've ever seen, since it worked. It certainly was the most risky play calling I've ever seen. The players and no one else get the credit for that win. Some serious heart on that field.

Two Class of '97s here (well, one undergrad and one grad).

Did you go to Chattanooga for the game? Or were you just screaming at home?

I'm still in shock. Can't believe they won. I remember the year they beat Marshall in Boone for like the first time in forever (if ever). That game was awesome! I just remember this one particular play towards the end where we thought the ball had been intercepted. There was this gigantic pile of guys on the field and suddenly, from the middle of it, you see (I'll never forget this player) Pat Stevens' arm shoot up with the ball in his hand.

We were hugging every person in site and then of course, the obligatory jump the wall, tear down the goalposts, carry them down the hill to Rivers St and eventually dump them in the duck pond. Ah...good times.

I was wondering if they'd tear the goalposts down in Chattanooga last night.

Watched it at Carolina Ale House in Cary with a bunch of other App grads. High fives were attempted after the game but not all connected if you know what I mean.......

The big win when I was there was over Ga Southern. They were ranked #1, we were #2. With time running out, we had the lead and most of us students had already hopped the wall. I was about to go over when Ga Southern threw a hail mary. That pass took FOREVER to get there (at least it felt like time slowed down). After the horn blew, security disappeared and the posts were down and into Duck Pond. Freaking amazing.

From what I heard/read, the goalposts at Chattanooga survived. A buddy of mine went to the game and called me from the 25 yard line afterwards. Said the PA kept announcing that only authorized people were allowed on the field but the thousands of App fans didn't care. Everyone had hopped the wall, even the older fans, just to get on the field to celebrate with the team.

Quick update, App will be hosting one of the national semi-final games next weekend. They played Montana State today and took care of them pretty easily. Gary Thorne (used to call NHL games for ESPN) was making the call on ESPN2. I forgot how much I like him as a play-by-play guy. Anyway. Date and time for the next round has not yet been announced.

I had tickets to the Canes game last night but passed on using them to watch my Apps win a second title. Looks like I really made the right choice. What's great about App right now is the balance of classes. The starting spots are not dominated by any one year. If they keep replacing the guys that graduate with underclassmen that are just as capable...... DYNASTY!!!!!

maybe I should have done that:D it's been a while since I was at App, but I loved every minute of it both times (undergrad and grad school). it's amazing to see how the campus has grown. hopefully my neice will carry on the tradition this fall (my brothers are also alumni).

i mean good for them and all, im glad they won... but they still lost to nc state.

We would have in BBall in the early 70's if we didnt get disqualified that one year

Yeah, you have to play to get to the championship game instead of getting selected to it.

back handed compliments not withstanding, it doesn't change the fact that they have won back to back National Championships in the division in which they play. that's all they can do.

I've been a State fan a long time and vividly remember the DT years, including the sanction year. that was a heartbreaker to be sure.

Hey, congrats to App. That was a pretty exciting game until they scored that last touchdown to put them ahead.

I'm with SHC: my back-up team won the Super Bowl, my team won the Stanley Cup, then my baseball team won the World Series. I hate to say it guys...I think this means Carolina might go all the way.

Yay for the Mountaineers!
