It's been mentioned in the "Former Canes" thread in the Other NHL forum, but it's worth repeating here.

If you've recorded the Opening Ceremonies, but FF'd thru the parade of Nations, or took a bathroom break when Latvia entered - it's worth re-watching.

Irbe looked absolutely thrilled as the flag bearer and they spent a decent chunk of time/chatter about him being a former NHL goalie, mentioned the Hurricanes, the 02 Finals.

They also said that he now played in Austria and while he wasn't in the NHL, he knew that if he was, he'd miss the opportunity to carry the flag for Latvia and how it was going to be one of the greatest moments of his life, hockey career aside.

And you could see those piercing blue eyes even from their camera shots!

I finally got to watch that this morning. He made my heart full. And how cool was that, to hear the Carolina Hurricanes mentioned in the same breath? I wish him well.
