I love home-and-home's! It puts me in the mood for play-off hockey! I expect to see Gerber in net -- and Jesse? Dress him or not? And if you do - who sits? I haven't given you a discussion topic in awhile... so, there you go, caniacs!!
Game is broadcast on FSN. Puck drops at 7:00PM.
LET'S GO 'CANES!!
edited to add: Yikes! I had to go back in and correct the date! What made me think it was 1995!

I'd start Ward again but it'll likely be Gerber. I just can't see Lavi playing Cam back to back when he hasn't used him much lately. I think Boulerice should play and Niklas Nordgren would be the healthy scratch to make room for him. By the way, the game is actually in New York.

Who said it wasn't in NY? It's a home & home like CL said- our home and NYI's home.
I'd love to see Cam back in, but I think this H&H is built for both to play- but Lavi could surprise us!
It's gonna be interesting for sure- lots of bad blood- I just saw Justin on WRAL talking about the whole thing- and he still seemed really steamed so I think we'll be in for a treat for sure.

Oh it's going down tomorrow night, regardless of who's playing.
The best thing we can do though, is, just go in and play our game and hey, let's win 4-1 again... (or 8-0.)
Personally I'd like to see how Ward could handle back-to-back nights, but I doubt that will happen.
I'll miss the game originally, but I'll watch it after I get off work (the one thing that sucks about working is that I usually close and don't get off work till either 10:45 or 11:45 at night, and I've missed a bunch of games recently... although my manager actually does audio stuff for the Canes/RBC Center, and has free tickets sometimes...)

I think he played Cam at our home to give him a better chance to win and build the confidence...Gerber will start in hostile territory....

Islanders' Godard suspended for two-games
Canadian Press
1/7/2006 1:20:04 PM
NEW YORK (CP) - The NHL suspended New York Islanders forward Eric Godard for two games Saturday for his cheap shot on Carolina Hurricanes forward Justin Williams.
The trouble started midway through the first period of Carolina's 4-1 win over the Islanders on Friday night when Williams hit Godard in front of the penalty box and was called for interference.
Godard got up and skated across the ice to retaliate - punching Williams in the head area from behind near the benches.
Williams laid on the ice for several moments while fans chanted for Godard to be thrown out of the game. Godard was called for roughing and charging on the play.
Godard missed Saturday's game against Carolina and will also be ineligible for Tuesday's game against Nashville.
He forfeits $4,639.18 US in salary, which goes to the Players' Emergency Assistance Fund.
And was looking forward to Jesse beating his sorry a$$ into the ice. Oh, well.

What channel is the game being played on tonight? It shows FSNY on the DIRCETV guide, but so far nothing on CI or FXSS.
It wouldn't be the first brain-cramp that DIRCTV has had this season.

I just checked DirecTV's online program guide and they list the game on FSN-NY 624, an alternate FSN 633 (I'm betting that's our broadcast), and then the CI broadcast you mention OTG.

Anyone figure out what they were chanting at the end - JF didn't say what it was. Earlier I'm pretty sure I heard "Fire Stirling", but the last one seemed like 2, 1 word syllables.
Nice game - had too many interruptions here to watch all of it, but I did watch the 2nd w/o any, so that worked out well.
I do think that young goalie was really good - could have been MUCH worse for the Isles.
Poor Staal - I thought he looked horrible on that last PP.

on Fanhome they are suggesting the chant was "We suck", not sure I buy that but I think changes must be coming in that organization.
the goalie was very good and made some very good saves to keep them from being blown out.
good for Gerber getting his 3rd shut out of the season. good for the team for playing 60 minutes and getting revenge in the only way that really matters.
58 points through 41 games :spin: :spin:
I did notice last night that CWard doesn't get a kiss from AWard. Gerber got his kiss tonight though. Hope it doesn't cause any jealousy in the room ;) :D

Outstanding road win. Everyone worked so well together, especially the line dubbed by Chuck K. as the Gerbil Line- they can't be broken up. :D
I rewound the Tivo 3 different times to try to hear what those people were chanting and I thought it sounded like 'we suck' but not sure what the heck they were chanting.
JF hit it right on- Staal is not looking all that confident out there- and it did appear they were trying to get him going. and he's had some good chances- so, I say he will bust out on National TV on Tuesday night. (It's my hope for him cause he looks sooooo down. a couple practices ago he slammed his stick on the glass in frustration on an 'easy' tap in during 2 on 1 drills)
Excellent game by Ward and Hedican, and who is this Tverdovsky dude? (and what is up with him tucking his jersey in his pants like he's been doing for the last couple games? He looks like Pee Wee Herman!)
Nothing to complain about here- but I'm sure we can find someone with something negative to say  .
And good for Jesse, got an opportunity for some minutes and to get in a game, and he didn't do anything to hurt us.

You said the operative words there- "Brindy-Style" Rod sports his jersey stylishly, while Tverdovsky, who is quite Euro-GQ off the ice, doesn't show 'style' with his pants up to his ears. Ok, I'm picking here.....he can wear em any way he wants- as long as we keep winning!

Great couple of wins againt the dreaded NYI which are looking really bad lately. Had fun at the game last night and had fun watching Gerber and the boys get a shut-out tonight. 2 wins on a home and home series is a tough challenge and they pulled it off (Even if it was against a struggling team like the NYI). Now let's kick some Red Wings A$$ Tuesday night!! ;)

Now I'm really confused. Tver tucks in his jersey, so does Brindy (albeit only one side), and both show their pants which go way up the torso, but that's just how hockey pants fit to pad the hips and protect the kidneys. Anyway, I'm way OT here :).

Anyone figure out what they were chanting at the end - JF didn't say what it was. Earlier I'm pretty sure I heard "Fire Stirling", but the last one seemed like 2, 1 word syllables.
On the hfboards some Islanders fans said there were 3 chants going: "Fire Stirling", "Refund", and my favorite, "We want Peter." Ouch. I think someone in that forum said something about a "We suck" chant near the end too...

Thanks for answering that. Lady J had been sitting next to me during the game, totally befuddled. "What are they chanting?!"

From Newsday.com:
The crowd of 15,205 got ornery in a hurry. Chants that ranged from the usual ("Fire Stirling!") to the traditional ("Re-fund!") rose to the rafters, where dusty, faded championship banners hang. The crowd even got into a little "Bring Back Peter!" chorus for Laviolette.
"That's a nice thing," Laviolette said. "But Steve's doing a good job there. I know they're doing the best they can."
Laviolette guided the Islanders to two consecutive playoff berths in 2002 and 2003 but was fired after the 2002-03 season when many players told general manager Mike Milbury that he had lost the team's confidence. Though the players may have turned off to Laviolette's coaching style, the fans on Long Island never turned on him as they have on Stirling, who replaced him.
"It's different," Laviolette said, carefully watching his words to avoid disrespecting the current coaching staff. "The two years I was here . . . I don't even want to comment on it. It's not fair. It's never easy when things aren't going well."
Actually, earlier in the season, things weren't going well. Now it's approaching complete disarray.

I knew I heard one that ended in "Peter", wasn't sure if it was 'we want Peter', but I guess it was "bring back Peter". The last one definitely was just 2 syllables, maybe it was "re-fund" or "we suck".

I totally second that! Oh my. What have we all said on these very boards??? The Isles (idiot, incompetent Milbury that is) would rue the day they fired Laviolette- and here it is, in all it's winning glory.
Funny, I finally made out the 'we suck' chant after rewinding and replaying it a zillion times. I
On FSNY, they have an Islanders Game Night show- I've always watched it when we play the Isles on the road- just because it seems to me, that the NY media pretty much loved Laviolette and probably couldn't figure the heck out why he was let go, so everytime we've played up there since he got fired and then hired by us, he basically holds court with these guys/girls. Last night, he had a gaggle of reporters who were hanging on his every word regarding our team, and then one of them asked about the Olympics, Herb Brooks, Lavis sons and the "Miracle" movie, etc. and holy cow, it was like they had to edit it down for times sake. He's one popular dude up there still.
Oh, well too bad for Isles fans. I know they didn't want Lavi gone in the first place, but it was taken out of their hands.
I'll start the chant- and I'm sure I'll have no trouble gettting folks to chant with me: "Keep Peter Here" ! :D

"I'm not throwing any darts," Laviolette said. "Steve's done a good job and there just going through a hard time."
BRING BACK LUKE!! Or at least a copy editor. Geez!
The story stunk, too. What is up with Giglio? I don't feel like he's been this bad of a writer in the past???
Maybe Luke is on vacation and they're overworked or something.

I would have posted last night, but Geez, a win will keep people at your house - the game crowd stayed til 3am! YIKES!
What a fun game to watch1 Alot of clicking and 60 full minutes was fun to see. That Williams/Rod magic that's been on the verge all season could be starting to click...I was glad to see Whitney starting to gel, it's been frustrating to see the just off timing. But the last few games...he must be getting back to 100%.
I hope Staal relaxes a little. The pressure of that great start didn't get to him during, but it seems to be wearing on him now that it's cooling off a bit. Hope he can break it...ON TUESDAY!!!

Did anyone else call directv last night about their bungled lineup schedule? I got hung up on, then was told obnoxiously that what I'm seeing isn't what they're seeing, so I must be wrong. (They said there is no game on 633. The guy who hung up on me told me it should be on 633). The unfortunate thing is without the DTV lineup correct, I couldn't tivo it correctly. I got up to the supervisor level who told me that it was the Hurricanes fault that the game wasn't listed. I don't see how the hurricanes are messing up when the game was clearly on channel 633. I got the canned "blackout" statement again then the turn your unit off and on" canned statement. I don't want 3 months of showtime. I want my games and want to know what channel they'll be on beforetime. They've heard us complain enough that it should be an embarrassment that these problems continue. Might be time to try some other center ice and programming options next year.

AP- I called Directv, started to get the run around, and after telling the doofus on the other end that NO, it's not THE LEAGUE who is preventing the game from being shown(their standard answer to everything- it's blacked out :roll) , it's DirecTv's ineptitude, and I wasn't hanging up until he did something more than reading the little card about the 'blackout rules' and get his a** on the horn with a supervisor or somebody who could do something- and magically a supervisor got on the line and informed me that there was an 'oversight' (yeah, Mississpi and Alabama on the Altenate channel and FSNSouth) and that I should be able to get it on 633. Meanwhile, we missed the first 6 minutes of the game.
I emailed Matt West & Michael Hurley with the Canes, as I have had interaction with them on the subject of television rights/broadcast issues- (last year when that whole debacle over the "best of the Canes" broadcasts were supposed to come on and they had to reshow them because FSNS got it all screwed up) anyway, I think if anyone had problems with finding/seeing the game they need to be aware so they can point it out to the providers like Directv, et al.
We're already low on the totem poll, have no other avenues to see the Canes, don't even have a pregame show like all the other teams- so we all need to be vocal about the issue since nobody else will.
