View Full Version : Matrix Reloaded
I just got back from seeing this movie... awesome. :spin:
I would *definitely* recommend it, even if you don't like action movies (which I tend not to).

So...is it better than its predecessor? If so, that will already make for two movies that many consider better than the first out this spring/summer movie season, the other one being X2: X-Men United.

Good grief, I didn't even know it was out yet. I'm so behind. Thanks for the review, Kat! Hopefully I'll be able to crawl out of my hole long enough to go see it.

Dude this one was better than the first one. Very cool stuff.
I will refrain from any sort of full review to spare those who don't want to be spoiled... if you want more detail PM me.
And yes, I thought it was as good or better than the first. Although, I think that we are going to be cueing up the first one sometime this weekend... and then going to see the 2nd again. :D

I'm a manager at Mission Valley. We sold out our 10 pm and midnight show last night. We had to add a third show at 12:50 am just to handle all of the people looking for tickets
it was unbelievable

Just got back from Reloaded.
That rocked.
What a great movie; lots of symbolism if you consider it, and lots of stuff that makes you think; and some GREAT battle scenes! (Could have gone without the love-making though.)

It's great to hear opinions from "normal" people. The reviews I saw tonight made me reconsider the idea of forking out the big bucks to go see it. I should know never to trust movie critics.
"Normal"... hmm, not so much.
But anyhow, my recommendation would be to go see it with *no* expectations. It is not groundbreaking like the 1st one, just a really good action movie with a good love story and some crazy philosophy stuff that might boggle your brains if you think about it too much. I think that the bad reviews come from people who were expecting too much and were therefore disappointed. Those and the ones who nitpick every little thing.
I personally really loved it, to the point that I hauled out the 1st one last night to watch it again, and am planning on a 2nd viewing of Reloaded tomorrow.

The best advice is to not let someone else, especially a critic, influence you. Go see it for yourself...I have found so many movies to be good after I was told they weren't, and vice-versa.

You said it, batesb.
I looked at reviews online for my 5 favorite movies, and 2 of them only got ONE star out of four.
There are way too many kinds of people for one critic to cover all of their viewpoints and what the like. The critics are only speaking for themselves.

Not to mention that they don't call reviewers "critics" for nothing. Their job is to be critical of the movie. Honestly I think some of them don't even LIKE movies!!
We (OK...more like I) wanted to see Reloaded this weekend but there just turned out to be too many good movies we hadn't seen yet on cable (The Ring, Reign of Fire, Twin Falls Idaho to name a few) so we ended up just stayin' in and veggin'....which is cool with me! Hope we get to it next weekend though. :spin:

SHC........how was The Ring? I want to see it, but a friend of mine who usually likes the same movies as me was disappointed in it. What did you think?

<----- Another one curious about The Ring as well...
I liked The Ring myself... nice creepy horror movie without all the gore and such.

Edited to day that I saw The Matrix Reloaded again today, and liked it equally as much. I can see here and there what some of the critics are talking about, but I think that a lot of them either expected too much or are really nitpicky. Also, this is the first movie that I have ever seen twice in the movie theater.

I thought The Ring was awesome!!! I LOVE horror movies and am not easily scared but this movie really freaked me out. I thought the story was pretty cool, the idea was quite original and it was scary as h*ll!! I'm still not liking my TV too well today after watching the movie last night. I'd definitely recommend it.

Is it on PPV now? I LOVE a good scare myself (didn't need to say "Me too!").

Yeah...it's PPV. I definitely would.....but I'd be sure to have something else to distract you from it for a couple hours before bedtime. I ended up being up until 3am this morning trying to get it all out of my head!! ;)
Did you guys like The Blair Witch Project? I loved it and I think it's a pretty good gauge of what kind of horror movie you like so I was just wonderin'.

I loved the Blair Witch Project when I saw it in the theatre, I never saw it a second time but when I tell people I like it I'm usually met with laughter or insults.... Many seem to dislike that movie. Maybe I need to watch it again. Glad to hear someone else liked it though! I loved The Ring when I saw it the first time, the theater was unbelievably quiet and the mood was great. The second time I saw it in the theater I absolutely hated it. There were tons and tons of people running and jumping in the aisles, laughing hysterically, making stupid loud comments trying to impress whoever they were with, and just being overally obnoxious.
I liked it on DVD though again. The jump scares work the best the first time though obviously.
I liked the movie "Below" a lot. It came out this past year, didn't get a very big theatrical run, but I enjoyed it. It's set during World War Two on a submarine and plays out a lot like Poltergeist. It's definitely far and above Ghost Ship though. I found that movie just plain stupid.

So it's one of those "scare you with things that are implied but not seen" types? Blair Witch was good because those amateur actors were very convincing in their scared-ness.

IMO, Blair Witch Project is one of those movies that is good-very good-great when it is viewed once. But multiple viewings can ruin its creepiness and greatness...
I saw BWP once a couple of years ago, and though I really enjoyed it and found it very interesting (I even have a copy of the movie poster here in my room.), it's a movie I'm not sure I could stand seeing again. Not because of being scared, but now that I know what happens, the element of surprise that made the movie scary in the first place just isn't as effective with repeat viewings.
BTW, there used to be a site housing a Blair Witch Project parody contest, and it featured a TON of great parodies...thankfully, I was able to find my most favorite of those, enjoy...

It is like that for most of the movie but you eventually see something pretty damned nightmarish, IMO. And there is actually some nightmarish stuff you see through the beginning of the movie too...just not the main thing I guess.
I totally don't get the people who hated Blair Witch becasue you never saw the thing but I know there are a lot of people who felt that way. I think there are a lot of people who didn't like The Ring because of it's ending but I loved the ending so I guess you'll just have to see for yourself. Hope you enjoy it!!

that sounds pretty good. I've not heard of it. I like WWII movies and scary movies so I may have to give it a try. I am claustrophobic so any thought of being on a submarine makes me slightly on edge to begin with

'Matrix' sets record for R-rated movie
Monday, May 19, 2003 Posted: 7:09 AM EDT (1109 GMT)
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
LOS ANGELES, California (AP) -- Hordes of fans took another trip down the rabbit hole with Neo, Trinity and the other characters of "The Matrix Reloaded," giving the sequel the highest opening weekend gross of any R-rated film on record.
The Warner Bros. sequel to 1999's "The Matrix" took in an estimated $93.3 million from Friday through Sunday, capturing 59.8 percent of the total gross of the weekend's top 12 films, according to studio estimates.
"Matrix Reloaded" made mincemeat out of the previous R-rated weekend record holder, 2001's "Hannibal," which brought in $58 million. "Matrix Reloaded" opened in limited previews Wednesday night, and its total for all five days was estimated at $135.8 million.
"Matrix Reloaded" becomes the second-highest first weekend grossing film of all time, behind last year's PG-13-rated "Spider-Man," which took in $114.8 million its opening weekend. "Matrix Reloaded" was rated R for violence and some sexuality.
Overall, however, Hollywood revenues were down, with the top 12 movies grossing $162.6 million, off 4 percent compared to the same weekend last year.
"Matrix Reloaded" audiences were split almost evenly between those under and over 25, and many theater owners reported a large number of families seeing the film, according to Warner Bros. research.
"You had a whole legion of fans under 17 whose parents were obviously willing to take them to see this movie," said Paul Dergarabedian, president of box-office tracker Exhibitor Relations Co. "You can almost call this an R-rated family film."
"This just shows that ratings matter to a point, but if people want to see the movie, they're going to see the movie," Dergarabedian said.
The film is the second of a trilogy, which will wrap up in November with "The Matrix Revolutions."
Warner Bros. held back on a major television ad campaign for the film, relying instead on word of mouth from the releases of the DVD of "The Matrix," of a video game based on the films and of a series of animated shorts.
AOL Time Warner is the parent company of Warner Bros., as well as CNN.
"The Matrix Reloaded" easily knocked its sci-fi rival, "X2: X-Men United," into third place. "X2" took in $17.1 million for a total three-week take of $174 million.
A surprise was the resilience of the Eddie Murphy family comedy "Daddy Day Care," which only slipped 30 percent at the box office in its second week and retained its second-place showing with a three-day gross of $19.2 million, for a three-week total of $51.4 million.
"To be wedged between these two monsters and hold as well as we did makes it that much better," said Rory Bruer, Sony head of distribution.

One review REALLY annoyed me: here's a snippet of it:
As in the original, "The Matrix Reloaded" is full of mumbo-jumbo regarding spiritualism and Eastern philosophy, mixed with Hong Kong-style martial arts fights, cyberpunk action, and slam edits. But the slow-motion bends and the mind-boggling visuals, such as "bullet time" and other CGI tricks used in both films, have lost some of their ability to amaze and surprise.
Or maybe they were just too dense to understand it, and therefore didn't like it?

Most probably. I can't *wait* for the third.
