The Olympics begin today with the Opening Ceremonies! Amazing they are here already.
As you can see the forum has been renamed to just "Olympics", so feel free to create threads on anything related to the Olympics.
I realize that the networks are going to be pretty much wall to wall coverage on this, and many live events will happen during the typical work day hours. Lets all try to include a 'spoiler' or 'live results' or clearly label threads when it applies. Just don't want someone to go into a thread that looks harmless and get spoiled unexpectedly.
Of course, the best policy is to avoid the forum if you are DVRing something while at work, but we just want to avoid someone clicking on a thread that's titled "Wow" only to find out the Canadian Hockey team lost to Italy or something.
Let the Games Begin.

Good grief! With the 6-hour time zone difference, do we need an "Olympic Discussion with Spoilers" thread and a "Spoiler-free Olympic Discussion" thread?
Gosh... back in the day, you just had to wait.
I love in the movie, Chariots of Fire, where it's 1924, and everybody in England just waits for someone to send a telegram to find out how their team did that day in Paris.
How times have changed.......

I never mentioned it, but I thought the opening cermonies were really cool. VERY Italian, lol. I loved the Cirque du Soleil type stuff...especially the one where they formed a dove. The American disco music during the parade of nations was odd but really fun!
You know, I know they're NHLers and jaded and might wouldn't do it just because they'd possibly steal so much of the limelight, but it's really not fair that our guys don't get to march in the parade of nations and participate in the opening ceremony. I bet they'd love it!
The fireworks that went off when they lit the torch were really cool, too.

yet no mention of the Ferrari formula racer doing donuts? :D
one of the best things I've seen in an opening ceremony in my lifetime. lol
I liked the commentator: "They usually keep horsepower pretty close to the vest... but we've heard it's somewhere in the neighborhood of 800."
800 hp. yeah, I'd give up a lot to be able to hit the gas pedal in that thing! :D

OK, so this furthers my belief that we somehow didn't see the entire opening ceremony. I don't know if we didn't get it all on the TiVo or if I just zoned out somewhere along the way but I didn't see the Ferrari. And I've seen some clips of other things I didn't see. Weird.

You and me Vandy. We're thinking worst case scenario in our house: Foreign bodies in the eyes of the Biatheletes ruining their aim. Comes from all those fluoroscein exams, eh? :) Burning rubber on a stage just walked on where all the athletes are at eye level with the tires. Not a smart thing.
