Oh, I jinxed Cohen. That's really too bad. She's an O.C. girl so i had to root for her....she has to be injured. And that Japanese skater was pretty 'safe' in her program, but Sasha is really elegant- nobody touches her..... ahh, too bad.
Um, that piece of music the Arakawa (sp?) skated to- does anyone know who it is??it's iPod worthy.......

Poor Sasha. :( I was SO sad to see Hughes fall, too.
Dang, I didn't know this other American skater (sorry....don't know her name) was even younger than Hughes!!
Sorta crappy Olympics for America on skates, huh? Well, maybe not speed-skates.

It's taken me a long time to be a fan of Sasha, but I did become one. I thought how she handled the post-game interview was wonderful. Mr. Modano should take note.
SoCal, according to this:
http://www.isufs.org/bios/isufs00000324.htm
Arakawa's music was Violin Fantasy on the opera Turandot by G. Puccini. I was sooooo tired by then I could hardly keep my eyes open, I'd normally recogonize it, but can't confirm until I rewatch. But, nice job picking an Italian Opera Arakawa! Sylvia Fontana skated to that as well (but there must be tons of arrangements for figure skating for Turandot).

Ahh, that's it- and yes Fonatana, the Italiana did skate to that piece as well- Fontana seemed overcome and did a good job in front of her home crowd. What a beautiful piece of music, just terrific. And I agree, nice touch to skate to an Italian opera Arakawa!
I too thought Sasha was gracious in her comments - and after finally warming up to her, I feel real bad that it didn't go well for her.

After Cohen, Arakawa skated a simple but elegant and clean program to win. Meissner fell but hung in there. Slutskaya fell hard and it seemed to really rattle her.

We let our kids (10 & 6) stay up for the whole thing, as it's really the feature event of the fortnight, and they had maintained a pretty strong interest in the Olympics all the way through. Side note: There were an awful lot of "teaching moments" throughout the games too which I liked -- both on geography (flags, languages, cultures) and life lessons (doing your best win or lose, sportsmanship, fair play, etc..) Good stuff.
Hope they don't fall asleep in school today..

I am hurrrrting this morning. Had to stay up for the end (didn't realize it was going until midnight) and had to be up at 4:15am to take Mr. nccanes to the airport. I'm dying. Where's the sleeping smiley?

I made it 'till the end last night. But I didn't have to get up ultra-early. I did blow-off going to an exercise class before work, though.... bad....

Thank you! I was really starting to feel for the Russian after the feature on her and her mother...Sasha skated great - there really was a line in the ability of the skaters from about 8 forward - it was amazing to see the difference.

wow.....don't know why I haven't read this thread yet....but I too get sucked into watching this.
I didn't see where anyone mentioned Johnny Weir. (if you did I didn't see it, sorry). I loved this kid. So entertaining and when everyone says he is happy in his own skin. Ok., he must be gay. Which makes this portion of *Olympic Ice* pretty funny.
They did this stint called *WEIR EYE FOR THE SKATE GUY*...with Johnny giving his opinion on alot of the skaters and such. hilarious.
I really liked Mary Carrillo (is that her name?) that commentated alot and also the Gold Medal Canadian couple (Salt Lake) that sat with her alot were very funny.
Sorry to see USA not do as well as were thought...(like alot of other Americans)......but it was fun to watch.
