Chad Hedrick, the Texan speed-skater got the gold, as you all probably heard, and they re-played the 5000 on TV this evening. It's amazing how long those guys can keep going that fast. He was up against Bob de Jong (what a name) of the Netherlands. So I saw his time -- he won in 6:14.68 -- which is .02 of a second off the Olympic record. But the World Record is a full 8 seconds faster. I just thought that was pretty wild -- you don't see, for example, too many track and field Olympic Records differ from the World Record by that much time.
Anyway, it was really interesting to watch -- wouldn't watch it every day of my life, but fun nonetheless.

It was fun and seeing Hedrick interviewed afterwards sent me into fits of giggles! I mean the way he testosteroned-out completely when he finished the race I was totally expecting your typical swaggering Texan. And he SO was not. Just not what I expected!
