Shaun White and Danny Kass finished 1-2 in the halfpipe. Those guys are amazing. Other than hockey (duh) that's the only winter olympic sport I really keep track of outside of the Olympics. Mason Aguirre finished 4th. If he had finished 3rd it woulda been 2 straight Olympics with a US sweep of the halfpipe.

Aren't they all just basically from the skate boarding culture, who figured out awhile back they could do the same tricks if they took the wheels off their boards and tried it on snow instead?

That's pretty much how my step-son ended up in Vermont teaching snowboard tricks. He was a big-time skateboarder.
