A Latvian hockey player:

Girts ANKIPANS

It sounded like "ahntsy pahnts" to me.

The NBC guys said his first name was Grit I thought.

The radio guys were talking about players of the game and one of them listed him and said "only because I wanted to say his name 1 more time"

It's not right that the first person I encounter with the first name "Grits" isn't Southern.

Cipulis was the Latvian guy's name, I think. But, I don't care what the guy's name was, the announcers were saying "Syphilis."

For some reason I didn't catch on to "MonkeyPants." I think I saw his name on the back of his jersey as soon as the game started and so I was hearing it correctly the whole time. Bummer. I never did see "Syphilis"....well, I've seen it....it's pretty cool....little spiral, squiggly thingie...but I never saw the player.

Picabo Street is the best Olympics name ever. Does anyone else ever think these athlete's parents really wanted dogs? Bode? Toby (though I love the name it was my dogs' name)? Elvis?

I love the story of Picabo's name (it was in one of my baby books). For about 2 years she didn't have a name - she was "Baby Girl Street". Then her parents wanted to go out of the country and needed a name on the passport, so they named her after her favorite game. I think that's so cute!

I think the goalie in today for Italia has a rockin' name- Gunther Hell (the h is silent) - They were in intermission when I left for work this morning (after stopping all 23 shots from the Finns) Clement says "Gunther Hell is giving the Finns HELL in that first period...."
