Well that certainly could have gone better...

What I take out of this horrible 1-win tournament is a sense of anticipation for 2010...I think our team will be very good. The old guard of Tkachuk and Chelios wil be replaced with a host of younger guys like Kessel and our own Jack Johnson...and I look forward to seeing Ryan Miller in goal. Erik Cole was visibly the best forward on the ice for the US...maybe even playing better than he does here in Carolina. Once all of the old guys are gone and retired, I think the 2010 team is one that can shine. It should be fun to watch.

But, sheesh...One win against Kazakhstan and a tie against Latvia...and a host of losses, albeit many by one goal in very close games...a bit disheartening.

Now I think I'll pull for Switzerland...

Ummm... Moo-boy?.... Swiss lost earlier..... they're goin' home, too

Oh well... there wasn't much expected of our boys going in, so I guess you could say they lived up to their expectations. C'est la vie.... maybe next time.

Good news: Our boys come away with no major injuries and can get some rest through the rest of the Olympic break.

Good point. Nothing more than bruised egos, huh?

And they should be back for Skate With The Canes on Sunday, right?

One would think, but gosh, even if they leave Italy tomorrow, that's only a couple of days off before Sunday's STH Practice and then SWTC huh?

Long day for the guy on Sunday, lol. Talk about jumping back into it Sunday huh? Even for the non-Olympic guys.

I'm scanning a game thread at hfboards - it's hilarious.

From what I gather, Nash still didn't play much, Draper played too much, Richards choked on an open net and passed, Heatley missed an open net, Quinn didn't pull the goalie soon enough, Pronger caused both goals and

RUSSIA WINS 2-0!

I have no clue if any of the above (other than the score) is true, but it's funny as hell to read.

With Canada out now, too, that definitely makes me feel not so mopey. I actually jumped up and did the "Nanner Dance" in my office, to the entertainment of several co-workers.

Now one of the smaller countries with lots of national pride will win. That's fine with me.

hhhmmmm I think the total lack of scoring (three shut outs)....No chemistry.....and like team USA, a bit slower then the other teams.

all the bragging from the Canadians about how they had the best team going into the Olympics and how dominant and no one compares... etc........blah blah blah.....

pardon me if I am extremely happy with this result.... :D

(btw, I work for a Canadian based company with alot of arrogant Canadians when it comes to their hockey)......its made me bit bitter. lol

NOTE: Russians are 7-1 against Canada in Olympic appearances.

The previous two shutouts had nothing to do with this game. I think the Canadians could have mounted a rally, had that goal not been denied. When the no-goal call came, that killed the slim chance that they had of a recovery.

I actually jumped up and did the "Nanner Dance" in my office, to the entertainment of several co-workers.

Please tell me you had Banana Phone going too. :D

I had my moments of sadness already. Now all I feel is happiness that our guys are coming home ('cept Kaberle)!! And with a couple days to rest before jumping back in! And all in one piece, I hope!

After doing everything in my power to avoid getting 'spoiled' wouldn't ya know, my buddy IceSaber called me on the phone from the airport in St. Louis and says "please tell me that the US & Canada didn't just lose today!" we were literally pressing play on TiVo- didn't have the heart to tell hubby, so I sat and watched our guys go down, and then had a bit of glee when Canada with Rick Nash sitting on the bench, and Pronger keepin' it real with his tournament 'leading' penalty minutes- and this lackluster Canadian team lose to the dynamic Russians, lead by one of my favorite players, Alex Ovechkin.

Very, very disapointing, as already eloquently stated- I really feel badly for Coach- he seemed to want to will those boys to win with his timeout call - I don't know what else he could have done. We need a sure changing of the guard. Cole was the best American on the ice for sure. I was proud that coach relied heavily on EC in those final minutes and I kept telling hub, 'he's going with what he 'knows' ' and I was just sure they'd tie it up. Oh, heartbreaker even with the cards stacked against them.

I hope we get to see all the guys back on ice for the Season Ticket Holder skate on Sunday, hopefully, and I'm glad that they'll all have made it through with little damage done.

I think the future of USA hockey is bright- and 2010 will be exciting - Kessel,Johnson and Johnson- and Ryan Miller for sure.

What are they saying in Canada tonight eh?

I feel like it'll be Russia all the way for Gold........ just a feeling.

I'm soooooooooo sorry - I felt like such a heel when I realized what I did. You should have seen my face. I had been sitting in the airport bar for an hour waiting for the score to come up and finally gave up thinking - Socal will know....The score came up just as I was dialing you to find out if you knew it - I didn't even have time to have the whole mouth filter logic "she's been Tivoing and avoiding the radio all week" kick in. My mouth formed the words before I knew what I was saying. I suck. I tried to backpedal because I WASN'T sure of what I saw....Words can't express. I hate when my dad does that to me (which he does every time I sell him my Canes tickets and I answer the phone every time not thinking) before I get home to watch the Tivoed games. I'll think of a way to make it up to you...I have an idea.

It's too late for me to watch, maybe just the last few minutes before I go to bed....

I had been sitting in the airport bar for an hour waiting for the score to come up and finally gave up

I was on the train from Raleigh to Richmond during the US game and missed it all, got to the hotel in time to watch the first three minutes of the 3rd period of Canada's loss then turned it off to go to a meeting, and was unsure whether to be glad that Canada lost (since the Young Turks Staal, Spezza and Crosby, with all the energy they would have brought, were stiffed by Gretzky), or sad that the three of them did not play for the Gold. But we'll see Staal in Vancouver in four years.

Back in Raleigh in time for the Sunday STH event at the RBC.

 Hey, girl- I'm still alive- no harm no foul! ;)

I mean, look at the grand scheme of things- Modano is now complaining that they were all on 'their own' and Team USA's organEyezation sucks, blah, blah, blah; there are WORSE things- plus, I SERIOUSLY thought since you hadn't seen a score, and it was just a scroller, that you may have not seen it clearly. I actually still had all kinds of hope even while watching both games!.....
