I didn't set mine either (first time forgetting). But honestly, I probably wouldn't have time to watch it this evening.
I'm going to try and catch some of it at lunch as well.

I actually DO have my DVR set! I can't believe I beat Guy to the punch!
(I realized last night, though, that I was running out of room on my DVR, so I decided to dump all of this years' Lost episodes, and Rome, too)

Puck bounced off Knuble in front, so it's his goal. 2-1 at the intermission. U.S. had really picked up the physical play, and it's benefited them.

tkachuk i think. i was watching during lunch without sound. it looked as if tkachuk caught a high stick along the boards as the period ended but was not hurt.
the shorthanded goal the US gave up was pitiful. i believe there has been 5 shorthanded goals in the tourney and we have given up two.

Too bad for Tkachuk -- but wooo hooo -- at least we got the PPG for it!
:nanner:
Just from reading the scoreboard, it does look like the Finns are spending a lot more time in the penalty box than we are.
Ok.... why was I so down before?..... maybe if I pretend they're the 'Canes, it'd be easier? Down 2 goals??? why-- that's nuthin'!!!!

I scooted out at lunch to watch a bit. End of the 1st and most of the 2nd.
The refss (imo) are calling it tight, but you'd think they'd eventually get that and adjust their play.
I don't think this has been Hatcher's best game, but I'll admit he's played well in the tourney overall.
I sat next to someone who asked me (after realizing I was watching) if they had some sort of "shot clock" in hockey. That was after observing a USA PP where Weight kept the puck for what seemed like an eternity and I don't think they managed a shot the whole PP. While the idea is absurd (a shot clock), I thought it was great that a COMPLETE hockey-ignorant person could see they weren't getting much done.

I didn't include this in my last post, but I have to admit that I've only watched 2 games (or parts of games) in live form, but I thought Tkachuk looked awful.
I got a bit of validation just now when the radio guys were trying hard not to blast him, but basically did anyway. Said something about his penalties and how "he just stands there".
They've said over and over and over how great Cole has been. It's been a real treat to see him play so well - I don't think this craptacular team performance will mess with his head much. But I do wonder how Laviolette will put this behind him and refocus on the NHL - Weight as well.

Done.
Despite the bajillion 1 goal losses, this is really disappionting. They wasted too much time at the beginning of this one and too much time in the box.
Did the TV guys say why Modano didn't play in the 3rd?

They played well at the end, but it wasn't enough. When you give up two 5-3 to the best PP team in the tourney, it makes it difficult to win, and we just came up short, again.

funny how both the men's and women's hockey teams took different routes but both to too much of an extreme. the women's USA team dumped the vets whether they were still the best or not; the men's USA team took the vets whether they were still the best or not.

that's what happens when you bring a bunch of old-guys just because they've been there in the past.
bad selections, and an even worse showing.
funny how both the men's and women's hockey teams took different routes but both to too much of an extreme. the women's USA team dumped the vets whether they were still the best or not; the men's USA team took the vets whether they were still the best or not.

Well, I'm glad the Tkachuk era of USA hockey is over ... he was downright terrible today. Sucks that they called that four-minute high sticking call on Hatcher, but there's no way this team can make excuses.
Cole was the best forward for us this tourney, and that's awesome to see. He nearly got the gmae-tying goal on a nifty pass from Weight late in the game.
Let's get our guys home and rested for the stretch run. Congrats to all of Team USA for their efforts ... I really think the next time around it will be a whole new story for us.

Well that certainly could have gone better...
What I take out of this horrible 1-win tournament is a sense of anticipation for 2010...I think our team will be very good. The old guard of Tkachuk and Chelios wil be replaced with a host of younger guys like Kessel and our own Jack Johnson...and I look forward to seeing Ryan Miller in goal. Erik Cole was visibly the best forward on the ice for the US...maybe even playing better than he does here in Carolina. Once all of the old guys are gone and retired, I think the 2010 team is one that can shine. It should be fun to watch.
But, sheesh...One win against Kazakhstan and a tie against Latvia...and a host of losses, albeit many by one goal in very close games...a bit disheartening.
Now I think I'll pull for Switzerland...
