Bolts' Neckar Charged With Impaired Driving
A Tribune staff report

TAMPA - Lightning defenseman Stan Neckar has been charged with driving while intoxicated after being pulled over because he was driving without headlights early Tuesday morning.
At 3:30 a.m., police stopped a 2003 Lincoln Navigator driven by Neckar, 27, on Bruce B. Downs Boulevard just north of Tampa Palms Boulevard, said department spokeswoman Katie Hughes.
The officer smelled alcohol, Hughes said. Neckar complied when asked to perform a field- sobriety test and failed, she said.
``He was cooperative, very polite,'' Hughes said. ``He gave us no problem at all.''
He was taken to central booking at the Hillsborough County jail and two breath tests showed his blood-alcohol level at .089 and .096, Hughes said. In Florida, a motorist is considered legally impaired with a blood-alcohol level of more than .08.
Neckar was released from the Orient Road Jail Tuesday afternoon after posting $250 bail, records show.
Lightning general manager Jay Feaster issued a statement Tuesday on the situation.
``Obviously, we are very concerned for Stan and his family. But, beforecommenting further, the Tampa Bay Lightning intend to respect the player and the legal system and we will defer until the matter is completely resolved,'' he said.
