Thanks Mona...definitely going to try to go to the Caniac Carnival. Any word on when tickets for that are sold? Not sure about the golf tournaments...if I could, I would attend them. And I *really* wish I could attend, with the tourneys being for great causes. (sighs) Decisions, decisions...oh well, there's still plenty of time to make those. :)

Caniac Carnival is totally free. TONS of people (and I mean TONS), but totally free. The autograph portion is done with wristbands - last year they gave some out ahead of time and some that day. We didn't even bother to try, but even if you have one, it's no guarantee to get very many. Maybe someone else can comment on that part.

They usually have a practice and locker room tour. I think there was a chalk talk/Q&A or something with Coach Mo. Plus carnival style games outside.

Anyway thanks for the dates Mona!!

i went to the carnival last year and it was pretty fun. it was the same day that tickets for october and november games went on sale so there were a ton of people there early in the morning. they started giving out wristbands then, but later in the day after the carnival actually started, they were STILL giving them out.

the way the autographs were handled was pretty crappy, IMHO. they basically spread the players out in groups of 4 around the arena. the sucky thing was, the lines were so long that you had to choose a line to stand in without knowing which players' table you were in line for. but if you were fast and made it through a line, it was possible to get into another one if you wanted.

i definitely plan on attending again. :spin:

Maybe someone else knows more, but I think this is one of those where the money is raised by corporations/individuals donating money in exchange for playing in a grouping with the Canes. Don't know if there are specatators invited. Anyone know?

From the Canes website:

Kids 'N Community Charity Golf Classic

You don't have to play golf to enjoy the annual Kids 'N Community Charity Golf Classic, which took place on Sept. 30, 2002 at Raleigh Country Club. This popular tournament, sponsored by Touchstone Energy and Outback Steakhouse, attracts hundreds of community and business leaders each year. Foursomes are grouped with players, coaches, broadcasters and front office executives for a day of fun and competition.
The tournament was sold out this year with 163 golfers competing in a modified scramble format. Players teed off at 11 a.m., shotgun style, with teams captained by Canes' players Aaron Ward and Craig MacDonald taking home the top prize.

After participants finished up their round of golf, they gathered for cocktails and compared scores before heading to the banquet facility for dinner, a silent auction, and the awards presentation. Auction items included sports memorabilia, golf getaways, and Hurricanes fan packages.

For more information on next year's tournament to be held on Sept. 30, 2003 at Prestonwood Country Club in Cary, please contact Bill Corcoran at 919-861-6231, or via email at billc@carolinahurricanes.com

I totally agree hyena....the lines were horrendous..and to make it worse, you had no idea who was at what table....I had to go to the beginning of the line to make sure who I was looking for was at that table.. I was fortunate enough to make it to his table at least!! The key is to line up early if you get an armband...if not you will miss out..

Yes, it was in November...I didn't get to go to Skate With the Canes, but I remember the ads for it. Anyway, I was confusing the Caniac Carnival with SWtC, since you pay for SWtC. Now that I've found out that you don't have to know how to skate to attend SWtC (I cannot skate for beans!), I'm going to definitely try to go to that too. :)

For last year's Caniac Carnival, I got up really early to get in line at the RBCC to get a wristband. After getting that, I went home for awhile, then drove back over.

I watched the practice and listened to Mo talk to the crowd, then watched the preview of the Raisin' Cane video. Then I walked out onto the concourse thinking I'd get in line for autographs. Well. . . . while I was watching practice, people had been lining up for autographs the entire time, so when I got to the concourse and saw how long the lines were, I knew the autograph session would end before I'd even get close, so I didn't bother even getting in line.

My point is, you need to decide before going to the Caniac Carnival if you're there to get autographs or watch the practice. You can't do both. If autographs are your thing, I'd recommend the RecZone, especially during a mid-week practice. . . . . so much easier to get close to the players, and you don't feel assembly-lined.

But I was such an autograph whore during March, I don't have too many left!!

You definitely have to decide if you want autographs or do other a available activities at most events. Setting up autograph tables and making it reasonably efficient is not the Canes' best thing as an organization. I did think it was better this year at the STH Party than in other years, but still difficult to get through more than one line depending on the autograph(s) you're seeking.

I had a conflict with the Skate thing last year, but it is on my "to do" list this year.

I remember the first and second skate with the Canes... Still have the little pictures with autographs... have most of the team then... Manderville, Burt, Kron, Gelinas, etc...

That's true... this year's STH party was pretty well done... I got to one table, and would have gotten to another table if I didn't have a conflicting place I had to be at... plus we got free dinner... so yeah, STH party was the best organized.

This is actually going to change for next year. I was talking to someone at the RecZone, and they are going to be using the former bar area as new dressing rooms and showers. That way they can enter, exit, etc. from over there and not have to walk through the crowds. Just an FYI.

Skate with the Canes was a ticketed event, the on-sale date was announced and you bought them just like you would a game ticket - last year's price was $50. I don't believe it sold out, but not sure.

I think there was a thread about it pre-lgc.com crash, but basically, there were 3 groups that rotated thru 3 "stations". You got

-a locker room tour with 2 photos ops (3 or 4 players/coaches at each one).
-a stop at 2 autograph tables (again with 4 players/coaches at each one).
-a skate session with a final group of players/coaches

I think each "stop" was 40 minutes long, so you did have a chance to have a brief chat with the players while you were taking a photo or getting a signature or skating with them.

Proceeds go to the Kids N Community foundation.

I think we'll probably try to do it again this year - I think. Our first stop was the locker room - the kids posed with Hedican, Brindy, Weekes, and Randy. I'll never forget after we walked away the boys were so excited/nervous - they said "Brind'Amour put his hands on my shoulders and squeezed them". They still mention it if we talk about the event. Cool that they'll probably remember that forever. :)

Oh, wanted to mention that every single player was there.

Oh yeah, Skate With The Canes...we had a GREAT time ! We also got Bret, Weekes, and Brindy in the locker room. My oldest was all excited because Bret had his hands on her shoulders...but the best is getting Rod to dance it up after I ran back and gave Weekesy a light punch in the stomach and Bret and Rod started singing Weekesy, Weekesy...we just cracked up. It was a very fun outing and everyone was great !

From today's N&O article:

SCHEDULE SCHEDULED FOR NEXT WEEK: The NHL announced it will release its long-awaited 2003-04 schedule on Wednesday, and there will be a few changes from years past.

Teams will play six divisional games instead of five and only one game against each team in the other conference. They will still play four games against each team in their own conference, with three "wild card" games to fill out the schedule.

One possibility for the Canes: A home opener against the rival New Jersey Devils at the RBC Center. The Canes are expected to open the season on the road against a Southeast Division opponent.

I am going to be livid if I can't get tickets for opening night! I'm getting kind of worried about it, too. If we are playing the Devs, I wonder if the game will be sold out before I can get two tickets for us...oh well, we'll see.

Alice, if we do open with the Devils...you can bet the tickets will be gone in a flash...

Don't remind me...as I said before, season opener's on my list of "must see in person" games. If I can't get tickets, I'm really hoping a friend of mine who usually gets Canes tickets as a bonus at his job will come through...

I've gone nowhere and would love to go to DC and Atlanta for a game. Would probably be convinced to going to Philadelphia -(Kat and SHC, no comments necessary  )

I went to one away game last year in Pittsburgh and I expect I'll go again this season. When the schedule comes out is everyone going to make plans for some other road trips? Where have you guys gone before?:

I saw them play the Lightning at the Ice Palace (I'm sorry, I just can't call it the St. Pete Times Forum) a couple of Christmas' ago. Nice arena they have there. Not as "homey" as the RBC, but nice.

I have been to a few other venues and I will say that ATLANTA is the
place to see. That arena rocks! And it's not that far away.

I can't call it anything but the Ice Palace either! :D We went to a Lightning/Canucks game there and had a blast...but it still wasn't nearly as loud or fun as our RBC! :)

Just FYI, I received the 10 game mini-plan order form in today's mail, so those of you who have put down deposits should be receiving them. I believe the deadline for returning them is 8/27.

We won't doing a 10 gamer this season since we've gone in with others on season tickets, but this does remind me that I need to get my group together and divide up the games for the season so we can order add'l tickets for those games we don't get from the group before they go on sale to the public.

For those STHers out there, when do the actual tickets arrive? I'm thinking it is very close to the home opener.

as I recall the tickets can arrive uncomfortably close to the first preseason game! last year they came earlier than the year before. I've never had them not arrive before the first preseason game (parking pass included if you got that), but it gets a little nerve racking. maybe that's just because by the time they arrive I am bordering on hysteria to get the season started ;) :D

The only game that I know Rio will absolutely WEEP over if we don't get tickets for is the Detroit game, so I'm really hoping that won't be an issue. Steve coming through raleigh and Rio not getting to watch him play would be pretty tormenting.

Revisting the departure of Buzz and John from the sales office....

I still haven't heard from my new rep (or who he/she is for that matter) - has anyone heard from the Canes on who has taken over? (Guy, I know you got that sorted out before select-a-seat). We took care of our season ticket before the June 1 deadline and Buzz leaving, but now I'd like to get an idea of when they'll be allowing STH/MPH to purchase add'l tickets. (I've got to get my group together to divide up the season so I know what I want to buy and do so before 9/28).

I am already thrilled with our new rep. He answers all of my oddball questions quickly, is very personable, and has set up special things for his people already (i.e., lunch with John Forslund). I think he must have emailed us as soon as he was assigned to us. He may not be good for the casual fan as he always emails us updates such as Jaro and Markov. If I were you, I might call and ask if I could be assigned to Doug Warf.

Thanks Shell. My only reservation is that I'm adjacent to 3 other STHs that share/split tickets and I'm sure it would make it more simple if we all had the same rep. Of course, if I could remember what exact seats they were () then I could ask them to assign them all to Doug.

Hey, Shell --

I lost Buzz, too. Is Doug's email: dougw@caneshockey.com?
I may just Email him and ask him directly if he'll be my rep.

FYI concerning the schedule...

The Caps Road Crew has 90 seats in the lower bowl (two buses) for the Saturday, 11/15 game.

Question for you... How can a group have bought 90 seats when individual game tickets are not for sale yet? If they indeed pre-sell to them, then that drives me crazy. I sit in the lower bowl in the "visitors" end and I hate when there is a large group of opposing fans together. If these sits haven't been purchased yet then I challenge Canes fans to buy them all up. :D

Well I guess they don't consider them individual tickets, but rather group tickets. I'm sure if they have a group of 90 tickets to sell - they'll do it. And they have been purchased already.

I agree Vandy.. weren't we told we had to wait before we got our group tickets until they went on sale? Yes, 90 tickets is 90 tickets, but why cater to groups of opposing fans but not Canes fans?

I totally agree Shell...that is 90 tickets that COULD have been purchased by Canes fans.......where is it written that you have to sell group tickets to the other team's fans??

It will be just my luck that they'll all be sitting in a big clot up by the deck :eek2:

The Caps Road Crew is usually not too bad as a group. The group that was Simon's Soldiers were horrendous, but since Simon is no longer on the team maybe they have disbanded!
