Allan Rourke, eh?
He scored 31 goals, earned 43 assists (74 points) and was named to the second All-Star team in 2000, his final OHL season.
Sounds decent. I swear I've heard that name before, though... did he ever play with the Leafs for a game or two?
BTW, the article said Lowell traded Jeff Daw, who ended up 4th on the team in points... anybody know if we had plans to look at him more?

So much for giving the guy a chance here.
He probably would never have had a chance here anyhow... we are too deep in Centers.

Sounds like more of a move to shore up our Lowell situation than a move to secure a good defensice prospect...though who knows, maybe this kid can turn into a NHLer...
Druken wouldn't have had a chance with this organization, especially with the emergance of Ziggy as a NHL-calibur center. I certainly wish him the best of luck...

Considering he really seemed to want to play in Toronto, I imagine he's happy about it. I hope so.
At least the Canes got something for him, as opposed to losing him on waivers the last go 'round.

So, let me get this straight: Once you are eliminated from contention or from the playoffs, can you make a deal with any other eliminated team? Or is there a specific date? Because team's IN the playoffs can't trade, right? Or does it have to do with them being AHL players? (I'm thinking that's probably it.) Sorry for all the questions, lol.

HURRICANES SIGN ALLAN ROURKE TO ONE-YEAR DEAL
KEN PRESTON
Defenseman Acquired from Toronto in Late May
RALEIGH, N.C. – Jason Karmanos, Vice President and Assistant General Manager of the Carolina Hurricanes, today announced that the team has signed defenseman Allan Rourke to a one-year contract. As per club policy, no terms of the deal were released.
The Hurricanes acquired Rourke, 23, on May 29 from Toronto in exchange for forward Harold Druken and Lowell Lock Monsters center Jeff Daw. Rourke completed his third year of professional hockey in 2002-03, posting 12 goals and 19 assists (31 points) in 65 games with the St. John’s Maple Leafs of the American Hockey League. The 6’ 1’’, 215-pound Mississauga, Ont., native has notched 23 goals, 47 assists (70 points) and accumulated 133 penalty minutes in 191 career AHL games. He has yet to make his NHL debut.
Toronto selected Rourke in the sixth round, 154th overall, in the 1998 NHL Entry Draft. Prior to turning professional, Rourke posted 48 goals, 89 assists (137 points) and 207 penalty minutes in four seasons with the Kitchener Rangers of the Ontario Hockey League. He scored 31 goals, earned 43 assists (74 points) and was named to the second All-Star team in 2000, his final OHL season.

Leafs sign Druken
TSN.ca Staff
7/24/2003
The Toronto Maple Leafs announced Thursday that the club has signed forward Harold Druken to a one year contract. In keeping with club policy, terms of the contract were not disclosed.
Druken, 24, collected five points (one goal, four assists) with four penalty minutes in 22 NHL games this past season. He started the year with Vancouver and collected two points (one goal, one assist) in three games. Druken was acquired by Carolina along with Jan Hlavac from Vancouver in exchange for Darren Langdon and Marek Malik on November 1, 2002. He appeared in 10 games for the Hurricanes and registered one assist with two penalty minutes before being claimed off waivers by Toronto on December 11, 2002. In five games with the Maple Leafs, Druken registered two assists with two penalty minutes. He was subsequently re-claimed by Carolina January 17, 2003 and was pointless in four games. He also appeared in 30 AHL games with Lowell and St. John's collecting 21 points (eight goals, 13 assists) with 10 penalty minutes. Druken was re-acquired by Toronto from Carolina in exchange for Allan Rourke on May 29, 2003.
The native of St. John's, Newfoundland has played 137 career NHL games collecting 59 points (27 goals, 32 assists) with 34 penalty minutes. His best season came during the 2000-01 campaign when he registered 30 points (15 goals, 15 assists) in 55 games with Vancouver. He was originally Vancouver's third choice, 36th overall, in the 1997 Entry Draft.

Add Druken to list of Leaf signees
By TERRY KOSHAN, TORONTO SUN
The Maple Leafs may not be in a hurry to hire a general manager, but the club continues to pare away at its list of unsigned players. Toronto yesterday announced the signing of centre Harold Druken, who will have an outside shot of making the club in training camp. Druken accepted the Leafs' qualifying offer of $786,500 US (his 2002-03 salary, plus 10%) for next season, but will make significantly less if he plays for his home-town St. John's Maple Leafs. Druken made $35,000 in the minors last season, but Toronto will give him an unspecified raise if he plays on the Rock next year.
Druken, who had a stint with Toronto last season before he was reclaimed on waivers by the Carolina Hurricanes, had five points in 22 games in 2002-03 with the Leafs, Hurricanes and Vancouver Canucks. Toronto reacquired his rights from Carolina in May for defenceman Allan Rourke. For Druken to be sent back to St. John's again, he would have to clear waivers again.
When he was with the Leafs, Druken was not in great shape. Since the end of the season, the 24-year-old has had shoulder surgery and also was married.
"He had a good start to the NHL career and I think we can get him back on track," Leafs assistant general manager Mike Penny said. "I think we have addressed (Druken's lack of fitness)."
With Druken out of the way, only defencemen Bryan McCabe and Karel Pilar and centre Nik Antropov are unsigned.
McCabe's agent, Jeff Solomon, said yesterday talks are "amicable." Don Meehan, Antropov's representative, and the Leafs made contact yesterday.

HARRY HAROLD
Life in the bigs sure beats the farm.
Just ask Harold Druken, who is thriving with the Leafs after rejoining the team five games ago from St. John's.
"Other than a few years ago in Vancouver, I'd have to say this is the best I've played (in the NHL)," he said. "I'm grateful for the opportunity and plan to make the most of it."

Through those 5 games, Druken has 3 assists in only 9 and a half minutes of average ice time. That kind of production puts him on the list (http://sports.espn.go.com/nhl/statistics?stat=nhlmisc&league=nhl&sort=prod&order=false&qual=true&season=2004&seasontype=2&pos=all) behind Forsberg, Tanguay, Palffy, and Naslund if he can keep it up :)

Maple Leafs demote Druken
THE CANADIAN PRESS
The Toronto Maple Leafs sent forward Harold Druken down to St. John's on Saturday after extending their winning streak to eight games with a 5-2 win over the Detroit Red Wings.
Druken was recalled from St. John's on Nov. 22 and played his first game of the season that day, a 5-3 win over the Vancouver Canucks that started Toronto's current streak.
He played in every game during the win streak until Saturday, when he was displaced in the lineup by Gary Roberts, who missed two games with a hip flexor.
The 24-year-old Druken collected four assists in seven games with the Leafs. In eight games for St. John's this season, he has seven goals and four assists.

Tellqvist, Druken are model farm citizens
By mike Koreen
Mikael Tellqvist and Harold Druken have every right to feel they deserve a promotion, but they are not bringing a sour attitude into the St. John's Maple Leafs dressing room. The goaltender and forward, who both enjoyed productive stints in Toronto with the Maple Leafs earlier this season, have been model citizens on the farm.
Tellqvist, 2-0-2 in the NHL this season, was 4-2 with a 1.82 goals-against average and a .933 save percentage in American Hockey League play before last night's start against the Toronto Roadrunners at the Ricoh Coliseum.
"When I first came down, of course I was disappointed," said the Swedish goalie, sent down when Trevor Kidd returned from shoulder injury earlier this month. "But these guys are trying to excel, too, and I just can't shut it down because I'll kind of mess up for them, too. I have to think about that. The team's been playing really well in front of me. We'll try to make the playoffs and go as far as possible."
Druken, who had four assists in seven NHL games, was the AHL player of the week last week.
"You come down here after you play in the NHL and you get a lot of confidence and pucks go in," Druken, who had nine points in three games last week, said. "Fortunately (Baby Leafs coach Doug Shedden) has put me out there in all situations and put me out with some good players."
HOME ON THE ROCK: Though guys like Tell-qvist, Druken and defenceman Carlo Colaiacovo would prefer to plant permanent roots in Toronto, each player has it pretty good away from the rink in St. John's.
Tellqvist, who was living in a hotel in Toronto, has reclaimed his residence in St. John's, along with his SUV. Druken is a St. John's native and, in his words, "has the best of both worlds." Colaiacovo is rooming with ex-Ontario Hockey League rivals and St. John's teammates Brendan Bell and Kyle Wellwood.
"I feel right at home there," Colaiacovo said.
