Took in the Dar Williams show in Carrboro last night. Excellent show!! Marty Lloyd was the warm up - enjoyed him too.

I saw the Eagles at Charlotte Colliseum on May 22...best concert I've ever been to.
Only one word can describe it: awesome.

And I'm planning to go to Matchbox Twenty at Alltel Pavilion when they come...but I still gotta get tix for that.

I take it they still sounded good vocally...that's cool. As much as I love classic rock, I'm always a little wary whenever I get to go to a classic rock artist/group's concert or get a DVD of one because of how most older artist/groups' vocals tend to be very weak and/or just not there. Two classic examples of this I have on DVD are Emerson, Lake, and Palmer and the Moody Blues. Both concerts have awesome song selections, and the music is simply great. But, the songs are totally made lacklustre by the vocals. A darn shame, really...glad to know the Eagles are one of the few classic groups (Along with Electric Light Orchestra and the Doors.) to sound absolutely good. :)

Oh! We wanted to go see them!!! But we find the crowd at Cats Cradle and The Arts Center in Carrboro to be a little...um.....pretentious sometimes so we didn't make it a priority. They're also playing tonight at The Neighborhood Theater in Charlotte....if Mr SHC had tomorrow off we'd have made that trip.

When you said you went to a concert last night I was thinking James Taylor. Awesome that you saw this!!

I think Marty Lloyd is great....and of course so is Dar. Glad you enjoyed it!!

I was so afraid it would just be 4 old, washed up guys giving a mundane performance...but the Eagles still got it. Their voices were as good as ever (except for Henley...he had commented on how the air conditioning was really 'getting to him'...it was really stuffy in the colliseum). If you've seen the Hell Freezes Over DVD ,they're much better than that. They really gave an energized and electrifying performance...one that I'll remember for along time. Alot of fun...

Sounds awesome and like the Eagles are actually enjoying performing together. If there's anything the Eagles are notorious for, besides some of the best country rock/pop songs ever, it's the fact that they never really got along. As a matter of fact, the Eagles said themselves on the Hell Freezes Over DVD (I think. If not there, I know I heard or read it somewhere...) that if they ever did get back together then Hell would freeze over, hence the name of that tour, CD, and DVD. ;)

Question: Did the Eagles perform "James Dean"? Just wondering because that was a song of theirs I loved (Mostly because it's just a fun ditty to sing along to.) that you used to hear all the time on classic rock radio, but hardly hear now...

I don't remember hearing James Dean...they played their staples (Desperado, Take it easy, etc.) and alot of the solo work of Don Henley and Joe Walsh...but I don't remember hearing James Dean.

I didn't know they didn't really like each other...you could never tell it by the way they act on stage.

It was at the Cat's Cradle. I could do without the standing (I'm kinda short too), but it was a nice crowd and a great show.

Thinking about making the road trip to either DC or Hotlanta to see Metallica when they come around, but might wait till they announce a few more dates to see if Charlotte or Raleigh appear on the list.

SB, they did James Dean at the Greensboro concert on 5/23. This was the best concert I had seen in a while. Awesome.

Cool, thanks CF92. Another sign of a great classic rock concert band/artist is when they have a great variety in what they play IE doing songs that hardly get played on the radio and/or are not as well known. That's why I love my Electric Light Orchestra DVD. Not only do Jeff Lynne and Co. sound awesome musically AND vocally, but they also play a lot of songs I would have never thought they'd play live like "Ma-Ma-Ma Belle", "One Summer Dream", "Tightrope", and "10538 Overture".

I wanted to revive this thread so I could plug SNMNMNM's upcoming show.

As some of you might remember from the pre-crash boards, my brother-in-law is in the band. They are currently playing several NC gigs. They will be playing this Thursday, August 14 at RiRa from 10:00pm on. They will also play Friday August 22 at Kings. That show is with "Nut Magnet" (Tom Maxwell and Ken Mosher both formerly of the Squirrel Nut Zippers and Robert Sledge formerly of Ben Folds Five)

Here is a link, then to go the "Music" page to hear some of their mp3's. You may feel free to legally download these. :D

I hope to be at Thursday's show so let me know if anyone can make it so I can be on the lookout.

I live in Charlotte now. :)

Seeing Poison would be my own personal hell. But to each his (or her!) own. Have fun! :D

cool Vandy.. I saw SNZ several times in Tampa and really loved them.. nothing but pure fun! I have a certain fondness for Katharine Whalen (how can you not love a present day 20's jazz singer?). I just did a search on them and was surprised to find out that they are actually from this area. Unfortunately I can't be counted on for those week night shows! I never feel old until I stay out late and try to get to work at 8 the next morning ;)
