I posted once before in the game three thread you guys have on here. It was quite lengthy, so for those of you who read it, I applaud you. And, well thank you as well.
Seeing as we're not really allowed to talk about the other boards (since you guys are Canes fans), I'll take the heat for it because I'm a Devils fan.
I won't mention any websites, or post any links, but I find it incredibly naive that the other Devils fans genuinely believe that we'll make a comeback and beat the Canes in 7. I understand the idea of hoping, and I understand to be a true fan, you can't be a pessimist. But I also think there is a big difference between being a pessimist and a realist.
I find it entirely ironic that a Devil fan would post on a Devil website that any Devils fan being negative in on the forum will be forever called out and shot and linked as a bandwagon fan.
No. Some of us might be being negative, but some of us might be being realists. According to statistics I saw, only 1 time since 1930 in a 0-3 deficit has a team come back to win game 7. And only 1 other time has a team brought it to game seven only to lose. I don't care what people say but statistics don't lie. They are there for a reason. Granted the 0-3 deficit comeback will happen again, I'm not saying it won't, but it's virtually ridiculous to believe that it would happen with the Devils.
For one, our defense is not playing good hockey at all. I don't think it has to do with the Devils having poor defense, they don't have poor defense, they're just not showing up to the games. And that causes Brodeur to be left out to dry. I know I said in my earlier post that Brodeur is overrated greatly as a goaltender, but he's good enough to lead a playoff calibur team, which he is. The problem is the Devils defense isn't there, and Brodeur is doing the best that he can. One man can't be the key to the team.
And I'm not by any means putting down Cam Ward. He's playing exceptionally well, really reminds me of a young Brodeur. But the Canes aren't a one man team with Ward. They have great defense that the Devils offense can't do jack with, and not to mention Staal (who as a Devils fan I must admit pisses me off on the ice, which is natural), who I think is playing his best game of hockey right now.
Realism and pessimism. There is a big difference. Sure, I hope the Devils will make a comeback, sure, I'd love nothing better than my team to beat the Canes in game four and mount an insurmountable comeback. I'm a fan, all fans hope for that. But I'm a realist too. The Devils are done, they are toast. With the poor play they have been exibiting on the ice versus the amazing play by the Canes, it's obvious who deserves and wins the series hands down.
Devils in 7 - I laugh at that statement.
Canes in 7 - I find that nearly impossible.
Canes in 6 - It's possible, but unlikely.
Canes in 5 - I do believe that the Devils will have one good game in them and they won't let themselves go in 4. But....
Canes in 4 - Doesn't sound too unlikely either. I wouldn't be surprised if you do sweep us tomorrow (Saturday).
But this Devils in 7 garbage I am reading from other Devils fans (And Devils ARE my favorite team and I'm NOT a bandwagon fan, I'm realistic) is just ridiculous.
Good luck to your team in game 4. Maybe you'll kill us up and down the ice. Maybe it will be a close game, or maybe the Devils will have one great game and destroy the Canes. Who knows.
I do know this - Canes in 4 or 5. That's a fact. And the Canes deserved to win the series as much as the Devils deserved to lose the series. It's plain and simple.
I feel like this is the only place I can say this without a barrage of hate posts coming towards me and people saying I'm a bandwagon fan and a pessmist.
I'm a realistic fan.
