Round 3 Tailgating [Archive]

Figure might as well try and keep all this in one place.
Saturday 2pm game. Last round they opened lots at 9 (or 9:30? I forget).
We were there by 10:30, along with a few others... but it was plenty early to get Our spot.

Which, btw, is at the very back of the first West lot, as close to the ticketing lane as possible. We drive a green outback. The car next to us will usually be a black exploder. for playoff games we've been taking turns buying an extra spot or two to have plenty of room to tailgate, as we normally have at least 15 people hanging out. Feel free to come by. I'll be the tall guy with the long pony-tail, possibly chasing a kid.

Not sure if we'll be able to do the 10am thing again this week. I hope so. Depends on if Grandma takes Cole again or not...

For Monday, we hope to be there before 5... but not sure if Cole is in daycare (which would require driving out to N Raleigh to get him before the game. /sigh)

A: No.
(from what I understand, the old freebie lots, like the one on Trinity, are now charge lots.)

you can try parking at Damon's, but I'm not sure how they handle towing as I'm sure they don't want their lot taken up by people in the game for 3hrs. park there at your own risk.

You can try parking at Cardinal Gibbons High School across the way... it was free during the Montreal series so I don't see why it wouldn't still be...

they had cops blocking the entrance for Game 5 vs NJ, just as an FYI.
first time I've seen it happen.. dunno if it's a trend or not.

I was at game 5 vs. nj and the lot was definetly blocked off, a saw someone in there but i think it was a kid from cardinal gibbons talking to the police officer... what time to the gates open on saturday... i go up to listen to the band and hang out but not a lot else to do... what do ya'll think about the giveaways for game 1 of round 3... i would rather have pom poms or rally towels to show our support for the team... not like game 5 with a pin or like game 1 with a cup...

The office buildings on Trinity have free parking , at least for weekend games. I parked at the one with the Bell South sign for game 1 of round 2.

Me and some young (19-20) friendly Sabres fans are gonna be there for game 5...I know that there will probably be some Sabres fans tailgating but id still like to talk to some of you Canes fans.

If they attempt to delay opening the lots until 2.5 hours before game time, the folks trying to keep the rabid fans out of the lots better be wearing body armor and using tanks to block the entrances!

My plan is to be there early enough to get setup and have a grilled lunch by noon, then coast on into the RBC before the puck drops. Entry time determined by the swag they give away.

Any and all fans from either team welcome to drop by, hopefully be in the same area that Guyute showed on the map of the parking lots....the scary part is my description is the same....tall guy, pony-tail, maybe chasing a 4 year old around....guess I'll shoot for other distinguishing features: I'll be wearing a red O'Neill jersey and wearing a black Canes cap.

That may in fact be me! My wife and were there with our long-haired 4 year old son, and we had a child-sized black Canes stick as well as an an adult sized freebie stick from years ago; we had two bright colored foam balls for the kids to knock around.

If that was you, all I can say is that your boy is headed for the NHL given the way he plays at less than 2 years old!

The paper said today that parking lots open at 9 AM Sat. and 4 PM on Monday. I'm pretty sure there is at least 1 entrance with no gate but they could have security guys there before 9.

We tailgate around the same area usually, w/in a few parking spots. We will have a big blue pop-up gazebo and will try to park in 6950, although the N&O outed our lucky spot so it will likely be gone. :sad:

I asked my mom if we could drop Cole off on our way to tailgating for a nap and then she could deliver him to us before the first period as usual. She reminded me they weren't going. The good news is I can drop Cole off at 10 and pick him up after the game, but it will be very strange not having the whole family there..
Anyway, long story longer, we'll be there at 10:30.

but yeah, we were a little later getting in than we normally have to to allow for the multiple stops, Cole handoff to Grandma, etc... :)

Rats, couldn't get a sitter early in the day for game 1, and couldn't find any way to get Zachary from the arena to the sitter if I took him there before she was available. :sad:

Hopefully Monday's game 2 will be a different story, since we have the MIL lined up for that, and she's used to long hours! :D Just have to work on twisting her arm to hang out at the arena for a few hours before the game starts and then take him back to their place, so he at least gets some street-hockey practice! :)

Ugh, what a nightmare! We had a huge problem in the East lot after the game resulting in a fight and several Carolina fans getting hurt...

It was a bad idea to give out the glasses this round, they were smashing them all over the parking lot....They were by far the worst bunch we have hosted.

Really sad....

I'm sorry i wasn't able to catch up with you guys to meet everyone! I brought my friend Kelly over to find Guy & Shell's car, but we got seriously heckeled and bereated by about 20 Sabres fans. I felt very uncomfortable so we left.

Ugh, what a nightmare! We had a huge problem in the East lot after the game resulting in a fight and several Carolina fans getting hurt...

It was a bad idea to give out the glasses this round, they were smashing them all over the parking lot....They were by far the worst bunch we have hosted.

Really sad....
