We are just 120 minutes of great hockey away from THE BIG DANCE!! Carbon copy the performance from last night (x 2) and our ticket will be punched.
Can't wait for the puck to be dropped. The arena will be nuts! :nanner:
I have to add that I couldn't be more proud of our team. I am always a proud Caniac, win or lose, but sometimes the pride makes me feel like I am gonna burst. :spin:

I hope we can see an encore of Gerbers performance from yesterday. But I know the Sabres will be playing desperate.

I'm flying out tomorrow and by game time I'll be only 3 1/2 hours away watching with my family in South Carolina. I wish I could be there to cheer the boys on, but we'll be at my Aunt's house walking my mom through watching her first hockey game!! I've already told my brother if we win we both have to jump fully clothed into my Aunts pool.
Tomorrow will be tough. They guys need to carry over their intensity and confidence from Friday night and combine that with the energy they'll get from the crowd.
:nanner: WHOO HOO!! GO CANES!! :nanner:

Big, big game tomorrw. It's not do or die for either team but it's pretty darn close for Buffalo. Should be a hard-fought battle from both sides. I really hope Lindy breaks up the -3 in one game Janik/Jillson AHL spare parts and bleeding hearts pairing and also kicks Briere and Co. in the arse for their lack of effort. Worrying about the D and not taking risks will lead to a repeat performance from yesterday and is a sure-fire recipe for disaster. Drive to the net and bang the bodies boys. Establish momentum and put Carolina's D on their heels. Do that and they won't be bothering our guys so much. That's what I want to see.
Anyway, we'll see what develops tomorrow. Good luck to both sides but just a little more to Buffalo - you know the kind of banked off a skate wobbling puck with eyes shimmying under the goalie's pads type of luck. I'd be happy with a W however it comes. :D
See you guys/gals after the game.

Not to my knowledge. Will update you guys if I see anything. No positive indication of changing the goalie yet from Lindy.
I think you'll see Miller again....but...then again I didn't think Ruff would pair Janik and Jillson together. Anyway, IMO it would be a mistake to give Ryan the hook. Miller is the starter and the team's future. He has bounced back from poor games with big performances in each of the last two rounds. Also, while not spectacular, Miller was not the problem last night. I hang that loss on the Buffalo D, forwards, and a solid, solid performance from the Canes.

Injury update From TSN:
"If the game was today I would take the warmup. So we're getting closer," Numminen said Saturday after his longest skate in practice since sustaining the groin/hip flexor injury in Game 1.
Injury update from WGR 550:
Ruff said Connolly is still having PCS symptoms and will not play in this series.
Ruff said he may insert Mair into the lineup tomorrow. Isn't sure yet. Man I hope so. We need that human wrecking ball back.

If it IS true, I'll be:
1-Surprised. I don't see how you could hang the loss on Miller. When your D is down to the AHL level and your O doesn't show up, what else is a goalie to do?
2-Bummed out. I was really digging the "MILLER LITE!!" chant and was hoping to hear some more of that on Sunday. :D

It might be the result of using the same strategy the Ducks used in playing Giguere and we used in playing Gerber. Though Miller has played very well, changing things up might light that spark plus as good as he is, Miller is playing human right now. We almost came back from that debacle on Wednesday and certainly hammered him last night.

too much room taken up by suitcases of miller? ;) lol
that pic of Weighter with arm raised right in front of Miller is Awesome. :D
and I'd be real surprised to see Biron in, and I really hope they don't do Miller like that. Our case was a little different, as Gerbs got us to our spot in the playoffs (38 wins), and then Ward took over shortly after (because Gerber faltered). In Buffalo's case, Miller played over half of their season and the playoffs, QUITE well at that. Taking his gig away would just be Wrong. You can't pin either of the losses in this series on him.

We just have to play our game and in no way falter and let them gain the advantage going back up there. We need to score early and continue to pound them every chance we can and rattle Miller.
For their fans that make it down, I hope it is a long quiet afternoon for all of you. :D

Help for the Sabres? Numminen feels better and could play in Game 5 BUFFALO, N.Y. (CP) - Help could be on the way for the Buffalo Sabres.
There's a chance their injury-depleted blue-line will get bolstered by the return of veteran defenceman Teppo Numminen in Sunday night's Game 5 of the Eastern Conference final.
"If the game was today I would take the warmup. So we're getting closer," Numminen said Saturday after his longest skate in practice since sustaining the groin/hip flexor injury in Game 1.
"I felt strong for the first time, the leg feels strong, I can really kick with it, it feels better," he added. "So I'll just keep doing the treatments and hopefully it feels good tomorrow and hopefully I'll play."
The Sabres played their worst game of the playoffs in Friday night's 4-0 loss to Carolina, icing a lineup missing three of their top six defencemen. But Numminen insisted he won't rush a return just because of the Game 4 loss.
"No, with this kind of injury either you can go or you can't. There's no halfway," he said before boarding a flight to Raleigh, N.C. "Last night's game can't really make the decision for tomorrow."
Numminen has missed three straight games and has found it difficult to sit back and watch with his young teammates playing the most important games of the season. And having to answer the same old questions every single day hasn't been thrilling, either.
"It's terrible," he said. "There's nothing you can do about it and you feel so down and you feel so bad. You just want to go out and play but you can't do that. It's really frustrating. And talking to you guys every day, it's not fun, to be honest. You guys are nice people but it gets old."
Much of the focus in the local coverage Saturday centred on the defence. One local column criticized GM Darcy Regier for not obtaining a defenceman at the March 9 trade deadline and having to rely on minor-league callups like Jeff Jillson and Doug Janik at this critical juncture of the season.
But Ruff for the second straight day didn't buy that argument.
"Our defence didn't play that bad," Ruff said. "I watched the video again. It had nothing to do with how our defence played, it had to do with our finish."
Top-line centre Daniel Briere, however, felt the offence was affected by the defence.
"Maybe the coaches won't agree with me, or some of the other players, but the feeling I have is that early on we just sat back a little too much, we wanted to make sure our new defencemen would have a chance and we wanted to support them in our zone. ...
"I think what happened last night was subconscious."
Ruff would have none of it.
"That's a bunch of crap. I'm sorry they feel that way," said Ruff. "But we haven't felt that way all year. If in their minds they feel they overcompensated, then it's my job to get their minds set in the right place. That falls on my shoulders.
"If that's where they were at, they won't be there tomorrow."
Ruff held a meeting with players Saturday morning. His message?
"There's nothing to get down about. We're staring at a series that's 2-2," he said.
In a city known for its less-than-stellar sports history, the bandwagon quickly unloaded. A sense of doom filled the airwaves after Friday's game.
"There's no reason to panic," said Briere. "That's the message we have to pass around the dressing room and send for our fans and our city. I know people have a tendency to panic a little quick. I mean, it's 2-2. Sometimes people fail to realize that. Nobody is going to win 16 straight games to win a Stanley Cup."
The fact is, players on both teams believed this would be a long series pitting two very equal teams. It's going to go at least six games now, if not seven.
"It's what everybody anticipated," said Ruff. "We knew it was two very good teams going at it. Breaks have gone both ways and teams have taken advantage of them. No team has been able to sustain any form of momentum. Everybody anticipated this being a long series and I don't think they're going to be disappointed."
-
NO CONNOLLY: Ruff had hoped to see centre Tim Connolly (concussion) back in this series but on Saturday for the first time expressed doubt on that front.
"I'm not as hopeful now," said Ruff. "He just isn't progressing as planned. I really thought I would see him in this series but I don't predict that now."
Connolly hasn't played since being crushed by Ottawa's Peter Schaefer early in Game 2 of their second-round series.
-
MAYBE MAIR?: Checking centre Adam Mair (concussion), who was cleared by doctors to play this week, may be added to the lineup Sunday.
"We may use Adam," said Ruff. "He provides a lot of energy."
Mair has been out with two separate concussions this season but when healthy is a gritty player for the Sabres.

GETTING TO GERBER: Briere is convinced his team can solve the riddle of Martin Gerber, who hasn't given up a goal in nearly one and half games since taking over for Cam Ward in Game 3.
"He played well last night, give him credit, but I thought we made it a little easy on him," said Briere. "We didn't have enough traffic in front of him. We have to make it harder on him. Before this series Ward was really hot and we got to him and we were able to chase him. We just have to do the same with Gerber."

He told ESPN in an interview that the guys on the team called him "sneaky" which fits with his play when his game is on.
We had a thread going earlier in the year on SabreSFans trying to come up with a nickname for him. Hockey Gnome was by far the most popular. Others considered:
Baby Face Briere
The Cat Burglar
The Flying Squirrel
The Flying Frenchman
La Briere
Little Beaver

Since the Game 4 thread got shut down a few minutes back, I'll kick off with my thoughts from lasy night.
Just a great overall performance ... I can't wait to see what the future holds for Ladd. He was great and is one of those players that, when he's on the ice, I follow him to see when he's going to blow someone up. It was also fitting that Señor Garbage got his first postseason goal on a rebound (great play by Weight!).
Gerber was great, as was our coach for going with his gut. All those articles about Gerber winding up in X, Y or Z next season oughta slow down for a bit.
I want to revote for our Playoff Team MVP ... Staal has been a beast.
Probably the best showing by our D corps this postseason ... I only noticed one or two miscues all night.
Tomorrow? Huge! The boys need to carry the momentum over. If they do, Buffalo will be in rough shape.
Go get 'em boys!

Briere said the "S"-word. It's over now.
Frankly, at the beginning of the series, I didn't know what two identically built trains smashing head-on would look like, but after yesterday (well, Thursday), it's pretty clear that if the Canes skate their game, they win. Five-on-5 has essentially been an all-Canes scenario, so if they stay out of the box, the likelihood is high that we take the day. I also like what we saw on the PK and hope to pressure the points even more.
Rule #1: if Numi is back, skate around him in very fast circles. He'll look like a one-armed man rowing.
Rule #2: Take the body on Afenagetmeadictionary. That guy can dangle (did I just say that?--I think all of my gay friends just perked up a bit), and when he skates around our D like he does, even my shoes fall off. He's got nothing of a shot in this series, but he opens up the attack. Hit him.
Rule #3: If someone trips/hooks/impedes you, do not look for the call; go get the puck. If the zebras eat the whistles or no, it is to your benefit to remember this rule.
Rule #4: You can wear white shoes on Tuesday.
Rule #5: Something about Fight Club.

I'm down with the Tinu chant. My section is usually full of newbies, though, so I don't know if we'll be able to sustain anything down there or not.
SF29....do you know, are a lot of Buffalo visitors driving all night like you? If so, maybe that was the problem in game 1. They weren't obnoxious jerks, they were all just grumpy from driving all night!
Well, I'm leaving Athens, GA at about 9:30 this morning and have to come through the race traffic in Charlotte. Everyone cross your fingers that I can make it in time for the game. :eek2: Gotta come up I-85, of course. I've been told taking 485 might bypass most of it. On a map, it looks to me like 485 spits you back in on 85 south of the track but several people I know who live in Charlotte tell me it's north of the track.
Anyway, hopefully the locker room has realized they can't take time off during a game with this team and expect to win. I'm ready to finish this one. Don't think I can take a game 7!! :eek2:
And, hopefully there will be plenty of cops at the arena today to keep the Buffalo crowd and any who feel like retaliating in check. If we can't be surrounded by Canes fans, I hope for the same folks in front of us that we had last game. They were awesome.
GO CANES!!!

We've got everything in the car and ready for yet another tailgate. I'm calm yet nervous, but like what I saw during practice yesterday, so I'm good.
As the late Badge Bob Johnson loved to say, "It's a GREAT Day for Hockey". Have a great time at the game everyone, see you all there!

Hey, E? Do you remember the Swiss camera crew that was out for Game 1 of the first round, who hung out in our section? They interviewed you, and our seat mates?
Since Marty got pulled then, they've disappeared. I wonder if they'll be back in the building for this game? They should be excited that "Tinu's" back to work. :D
I was thinking about that myself!

It's finally game day!! I'm in on the "Tinu" chant...I've got some verrryy loud people around me so hopefully they'll help me out.
And I really hope the police are out in full force today. I had the weirdest dream last night that 2 guys were trying to break into my house...and they both had on Sabres jerseys. I wound up catching them and then the police took 'em away. I think I've officially cracked, but hopefully it's a good sign for today's game! :D
Alright boys, a full 60 minutes! GO CANES!!!

Wanted to check Ticketmaster before leaving. They are selling SRO for a buck seventy-five. Wow! I remember (I think) them being as much as 125, but $175????
I cringe to find out how much SCF tix will be in the UL.

Intimidating staredown MOJO picture...
We need to win today...Key will be the defense's ability to stay disciplined, cool, and positionally sound. I see Hedican as key since he's got the speed to break up those Sabres efforts to capitalize when we make a mistake. Let's go boys! I want to be up 3-2 going back to Buffalo.

Not sure how many have been to sign the Big GO CANES sign that is at center court at Crabtree Mall... I went this am.. and some Sabre fans defaced the sign. The Mall People said they would have security around it today.. since Sabre fans were wandering around the mall with nothing to do until the lots open. RJ will be the announcer. He makes some great calls but I imagine it will be annoying to listen to him as a Canes fan. "LalalalalafontAINE!!!!", "MAYDAY, MAYDAY, MAYDAY!", and "STUUUUUUUUU Barnes!!!" are some of my favorite memories. Anyway good luck and I hope you are able to get the game.

btw, if successful hockey is supposed to be played the way that ze zabres are playing it, well, in that case this league will lose at least one fan in me... it's just sad to see a whole team just buying into a system of collectively gathering in the defensive zone without a single thought of any creativity whatsoever... just waiting like a bunch of foxes for a little mistake by the opponent... it's called cowardice, and that's exactly what it is!

Officiating has been crap all game. I keep watching the Hedican "hooking" penalty at the end of the 3rd but it looks very questionable to me. I'm also still trying to figure out how they called Williams for diving when Miller tripped him.
Looking for a big 4th period from our boys...they definately deserve the W.
