I was so hoping NOT to have to start a thread with this title.^

So... the entire season boils down to this one game.

We earned home-ice advantage. Let's make it count BIG TIME.

Puck drops at 7:30PM

LET'S GO 'CANES!!

Truly do or die time now for both teams. Should be the most intense game of the series. This is going to be agony for one side. I just hope it isn't ours. Can't wait for Thursday.

IMO - everything up until now doesn't matter. No lucky charms, no pregame mojo, no matter the # of Sabres fans in the house - none of it matters. Win or go home.

Walk the walk, don't talk the talk. Shut up and do it - if not it's over.

I didn't think I could take a game 7, but now I'm looking forward to it.

The fans will be there and be very loud - but the will has to come from that locker room - period.

The Canes have been yearning for another chance like this since the Finals against my hometown 4 years ago. They HAVE to come out there with the energy surging! :spin: I know they can, and I know they will, I just KNOW it!

They HAVE to win this. If they win it shift by shift--follow through with all the hitting, shake them up, get the pucks deep and make some plays....they should be fine. ALSO, guys, stay in it for SIXTY minutes!! Not in spurts, not here and there, SIXTY MINUTES!

Come on! You win this, you go to the Stanley Cup Final, you FINISH what you started 4 years ago and HOIST it this year...

or?

You go home and watch the Buffalosers do what YOU should be doing. SCREW THAT!

GO CANES!!

The dreaded game 7...just thinking about it makes me nervous.

I posted PLav's quote in the other thread, but I'll post it here as well:
"Now our backs are up against the wall. It's in our building, which is where we want it to be and we're gonna be able to use the energy from our building and our fans. We need them there, we need their energy and we can draw off of that, I'm sure that they'll be there for us."

It's time to take advantage of our house...'Canes, don't let them come into your house and push you around...don't give them an ounce of life...and don't let them have an opportunity to use this one game to end your unbelievable season. Give it everything you've got. You've got the advantage...use it. Come to play, and remember, Whatever It Takes.

As for the fans...insanity is key.

Well, the good thing is... this will only make this season even that much more special. How cool is it going to be in the RBC with the clock winding down and the place going nuts and how great will it be in the parking lot afterwards??

I want to see a total Hurricanes domination like in games 2 and 4. Bring it!!!

Were 0-3 in game 7's and Buffalo is 1-4. I hope Carolina can play a whole game and stay out of the box. We don't need to have a first period like the one we had yesterday.

The thought of this game makes me truly sick to my stomach.. It's win or there is no tomorrow for the 05-06 season. They know it, we all know it and it is in their hands. They have played their hearts out the entire season and I can't see them giving up now. I hope those "f"ing refs let them play and do not intervene in a game with so much riding on it. If we can play our game like I know we can, I think we will spending a little extra time at the arena tomorrow night.

For a number of reasons, if there is ANY justice in the hockey world, we will win tomorrow night.

GO CANES GO!!

That is an excellent reason for the guys to win. :)

I think about Chad and Alicia heading into that arena game after game and how much they love this team and and have the courage to be there in addition to everyday life and all they face. If the hockey gods are listening, the big prize will be ours. Please God let them win it for these two if nothing else.

I'm looking forward to it as well. I'm not nervous, nauseous, not even excited at this point. I am peeved about that game last night. Not about the officiating. If the Canes had come out skating, the officiating would have been a moot point IMO. The Canes were wicked bad and the lost that game starting with the drop of the puck. Yes, they got better over the course of the game, but that wasn't enough. I'm with E. Find it inside yourself or make your tee times. I'll be there and I'll do my part to give them energy, but it's up to them. One game. Play from the puck drop or don't complain when it's over.

I'm sure I'll get over it, but I am so frustrated with them at this point that I can hardly stand it.

Nobody said this was going to be easy or given to us. Everybody called it a 7 game series from the outset. It's lived up to its billing big time. Sure, you could ***** and moan about "man if we don't sleep in the 2nd period in game 1 or 3, or the 1st period in game 6" but if we played this perfect never-ending game then we wouldn't be a hockey team, we'd be William Wallace and we'd consume the Sabres with lightning from our eyes and fireballs from our arses.

But we're a hockey team. It's coming down to 1 hockey game. 1 huge game.

On the first day of hurricane season.

On home ice.

This is the game the boys worked their asses off all year to have at home. This is the game that Cole put his body and life on the line to get at home.

This is the game that separates the men from the boys. That shows those that want it and those that are just pretenders.

This is why we're fans of this game, to get out there in a game 7, go nuts, and rock the house until giant glowing letters "TILT" start blinking and it looks like the Canes are skating downhill, the Sabres are skating uphill.

Whatever it takes. Weight, Wesley, Brindy, Hedi, Kevyn, Whitney, Wallin, Kaberle, Gerber -- all Hurricanes over 30 who don't have the Thing we're chasing. Recchi, Stillman, A. Ward -- lead the way. Show how it's done. Show what it takes.

And for goodness freakin' sakes stay out of the penalty box.

speaking just for myself, I didn't expect perfection, but you bet your life I expected effort every period of every game. that does not translate into lack of errors, lack of fatigue, lack of being human and losing focus, but last night's game was awful IMO and I'm sticking to it.

I absolutely think they can win tomorrow. I think they will win tomorrow. I think the crowd can give them an extra boost and can/will raise the roof, but it's up to them.

I think it's pretty damn obvious that the players hate this team (and possibly some of their fans based on CC's report, lol) as much or more than we do.

DO NOT let them get under your skin (you listening, Kevyn?).

Finish it Thursday and you'll still have a couple days off before we "welcome" Edmonton to the East. That means you can unload tomorrow night.

Play THAT game. Be THAT team. Be the Canes. And no one can beat you. Not even 4 guys in black and white.

Get your tickets. Be in that building. It's not only the players chance to show how bad they want it, it's OUR chance as well.

the reporter from the Globe and Mail was on NHL Live yesterday. I heard a bit of it and he said that if this series went to game 7, the winning team would have just the right amount of time off before the finals. he thinks it would give them an edge over Edmonton because of their lengthy layoff and because you can't simulate game conditions no matter how hard you practice. he also said Melrose ( ) had a good point when he said that the problem with a long layoff is not the amount of time. it is that the body doesn't want to get back into head down, keep going, ignore all the aches and pains mode. while playing every other day, a player just keeps going, but with a break his body starts to think not playing isn't such a bad idea (I'm paraphrasing, but it's close). not a bad point considering the source.

maybe it's a positive to going 7 and will help take the edge off my irritation level if I use it as my mantra today ;)

I hope everytime Briere touches the puck, he is scrambling to put his body parts back together. I love the punishing hit that Brindy put on him last night. I also hope that Grier gets hit so hard he doesn't know his name until next Tuesday. I look for a very physical battle.

ya know, for game 5 they played Braveheart (one of my top 3 movies of all time, possibly #1) AND Dune (another fave). I knew it was a good sign. If they keep the same intro clips for #7, we're golden.

erg ... that Garth dude ... and Ruff!!!!!!

RUFF UNLOADS ON LAVIOLETTE

05/31/2006 @ 01:21 PM

Lindy Ruff has had enough of Peter Laviolette and his Carolina Hurricanes.

What started as a very aesthetic pleasing, mutully respectful series, has progressively degenerated into a serve and volley of verbal scud missiles. I love a good old fashioned ass whoopin !!

Doug Weight`s *****ing and snipping contributed to Lindy`s barrage, as did Laviolette`s comnplaints about the officiating in Game 6, the ice conditions in Buffalo....

Today, Lindy Ruff uncorked on the Hurricanes.

"That and endless champagne on ice, that hurts to", Ruff said referring to Carolina`s insistence to have cases of ice cold bubbly, trucked into HSBC Arena for the Carolina postgame party after Game 6. OOOOOOPPPSSS !!

How did Buffalo find out about the bubbly and the premature party ?

"A lot of things like that fire you up. They`re a pretty arrogant bunch, you know, they want to blame it on the ice, they want to blame it on officiating. I said after the game in Carolina (Game 5) that it was a tough call (JP Dumont`s overtime penalty that led to the game winning PP goal by Stillman), but, I also said that JP shouldn`t put his stick on him..."

Ruff bristled at the suggestion that Jason Pominville turtled to get the penalty call on Weight in the overtinme session.

"That penalty has been called all year long...did he hit him from behind? You`re damn right he did !! Pommer has zero reputation, he keeps working hard and he does the right thing ". Ruff will blast his own players when they deserve it, and he`ll praise when praise is earned. He`s an equal opportunity coach. He took exception to Weight, Laviolette and and the Canes` allegations that the Sabres are not team tough.

He also was incensed that the Carolina players have been heard talking about their plans to move on to face Edmonton for the Stanley Cup.

"I think we`ve sensed some of their arrogance on the ice, by some of their comments. It showed up in Game 5 where they were a little perplexed by the way they played. All our tenacity in the game showed them that we`re a lot better team than they think we are".

And the statements from Ruff & Co. after Game 5:

"I just tried to lift his stick, and when I saw my stick was stuck there, I just let it go," Dumont said. "I didn't try to hook him. My stick got caught."

Said Ruff: "Sitting around, embellishing calls and waiting for power plays, that's what [the Hurricanes] were doing. Every time you hit them, they look over the shoulder and look at the referee."

That's putting it quite mildly....what the hell else does "Linda" have to complain about NOW??? Is two periods AND an OT without a single penalty called on his/her "boys" not enough?! My gawd...

Frankly, I'm tired of all the trash talk after the game - it doesn't do sh*t at this point.

Nothing matters but game 7.

Garth can kiss my @ss - he's a Buffalo homer with a standard gig on XM and hockeybuzz that gives him an outlet to be a fan on a national stage.

So back to the game - the Canes have to harness that emotion and make good decisions, be relentless on the puck, and get pucks thru to Miller.

Everything else is just noise.

Questions:

1. Why would we have iced champagne waiting on us. And if we did, how is that not super secret sauce wrapped up in enigma smothered in mystery cloaked in suspicion?

2. If Canes players were talking about moving on to play Edmonton... don't like it. Don't like it at all.

3. Canes players need to stop barking at the refs and start barking at the Sabres. With their shoulders.

Not sure if I buy a single word that comes out of Lindy "I actually used the words 'Mark Messier'" Ruff's mouth but... ick.

I would assume it's SOP to have champagne available for any team that has a chance to advance to the Finals. I don't like hearing about it, but I'm sure every team does it - how on earth does it miraculously show up when team's clinch in any sport. Somebody has to plan for it.

But you know what - looking back gets you nowhere now. Look forward boys - 7:30pm on Thursday.

Anyone know the refs?

I think E is right about the champagne. Unless it appears like some sort of genie when any team clinches a championship, someone has to make it so. No different from the Prince of Wales trophy being in the building. It HAS to be there. It's not an omen. It's not being arrogant. It's called advanced planning and the world revolves around it. if Lindy (I'll thank you not to call him Cindy  ) Ruff tells anyone that if game 5 had a different outcome, there wouldn't have been champagne in the Sabres' room for game 6, he is a liar.

It's about the game, stupid. (Sorry, not directing the "stupid" at anyone, just using the famous phrase).

It's about the game. Not who opens his mouth less (remember Tortorella has held the Cup over his head), not about anything else that helps fans cope. It's about the game.

Someone on the radio (forget which broadcast, maybe the 620 lunch guys) talked about how Whitney and Cullen are MUCH better on home ice (for whatever reason), so from that perspective alone - the Canes has a 'home ice advantage'. And that's so true - we need all 3 lines being the scoring threats they can be.

I'll tell you what's arrogant. Lindy Ruff's mouth open. He's the one who brought up the Hitchcock saying. "Laviolette should worry about his own team." Well, Ruff better worry about his own team. I sense he is giving more fuel to the fire for the canes than his own team.

Shut up and play the game whii-i-i-iner. I think he beats Sid the Kid for whining. His mouth spews buffalo chips. But I Think it's from another animal. BullSHIXX

I don't ever remember such a vile filled ECF before. From the fans hating on each other to the teams and also the coaches. I certainly don't remember the constant ref baiting and team hating team going on in 2002.

I guess we'll find out if the Sabres are really better than the Canes "think" they are tomorrow night. I don't think they are.

I think the reason I have a nervous feeling is that it's coming down to just one hockey game. Anything can happen in one game. Ice surfaces aren't perfect. Pucks roll, pucks bounce oddly, pucks waffle in the air, pucks take weird bounces of stanchions, pucks deflect off of skates, off of referees, off of linesmen's skates. Sticks break. The posts can be kind and unkind.

Whichever team plays the "best" game, even by far, could lose.

Gotta dig deep. Then dig some more. And some more if you have to.

Just win. There are no excuses at this point. Bad bounce? Make the bounces. Bad call? Fight through it. Broken stick? Kill off a 5-on-3 with two broken sticks if you have to.

Don't stop skating from the opening face-off to the final horn -- a deafening, rumbling series of goal horn blasts that will leave our ears ringing yet again, and send the RBCC into delirium.

Oh, you're damn skippy I heard it.I told Mr. Socal he needed to work with Staal on those snappy comebacks that he is very good at, so Staal can deal with doofus' like the "cute" Biron. :roll/

Uh, I had this, like self imposed media ban going on, no news, no XM, just comments on LGC, but HOLY SH** this Lindy dude has me ticked. I would challenge his keep-my-cell-charger-I'll-be-back-to-Carolina crack to the hotel staff down here was a bit much, but what the hell ever.

And Garth? who the hell is he? I'm asking rhetorically, as I've heard his act and holy crap it's a full on hoser dude act, and he can step the heck off right now. And oh, really? we had "truckloads" of champagne 'shipped' in ? Right dude.

I'm really tired of Ruff. Coach is right he sure does worry about our team alot, eh? I hope the Canes are as insulted with his comments as we all are. And I expect they are.

Yes, all of this is chatter, noise like E says, but it sure is a bunch of crap. I want the Canes to shut them all up for good.

Someone on 620 or 850 called in to say he was going with a few of his friends to the Sabres hotel for a little wake up call, a la, the Calgary Flames fans when they played the Red Wings in the playoffs, (they had that radio station up in CGY with a bunch of people tooting horns, clanging bells and pots and pan, and chanting GoFlamesGo! waking up the Wings at like 6am LOL) and he was 'recruiting' Caniacs to help him out. As annoying as it was, I had to laugh....if I remember right, Staal even had a little smile on his face. How can a guy who is riding the bench talk smack to anyone...let alone Eric freakin Staal? Congrats, you looked like an idiot, Biron.

And as for Linda's quotes...doesn't surprise me one bit. This guy's up for the Jack Adams? heh. Keep worrying about our team, whiner...we'll do our talking out on the ice. Hopefully these quotes will only serve to get our guys even more pissed.

If Staal had quipped a good enough comeback, doubt OLN would have broadcast it. They are drooling over the Sabres bringing in the northeast hockey market.

Anyhow:

A nicely whistled wrister at Biron courtesy of Staal....now that would have been funny. Especially if Eric skated up and said "Hey Biron you move quick for a guy with pine needles stuck up his a____....." :smoke:

I don't think OLN is in the Buffalo market, cave...so it's hard to say.

Anyhow:

A nicely whistled wrister at Biron courtesy of Staal....now that would have been funny. Especially if Eric skated up and said "Hey Biron you move quick for a guy with pine needles stuck up his a____....." :smoke:

The funniest thing would be when Biron has to shake the winner's hand.

We heard it, as well. The bf said that after the, "can't stay on your skates, staal?" comment (or whatever it was), staal should've responded with a, "Can't get the splinters out of your @$$, Marty?" I had thought that a response from Staal would mean that Biron was getting to him, but I still would've LOVED to hear a good quip in response.

If Staal had quipped a good enough comeback, doubt OLN would have broadcast it. They are drooling over the Sabres bringing in the northeast hockey market.

you're telling me! if they kissed the sabres asses any more, they'd need a wet nap

honestly, though, and back on topic, i'm looking more and more forward to the game tomorrow. thank god i'll be there instead of having to hear the OLN foolery.

Someone already mentioned what Staal should've said:

Biron: Hey, there having a hard time stayin' on your skates, Staal?

Staal: At least my skates are on the ice Biron.

Well...I guess it all comes down to this...

Lindy Ruff is a good coach, but he sure as hell whines a lot. In professional sports, players and coaches have to be above that, and it's disappointing to see it become a reality. In the meantime, Ruff can take his phone charger and shove it up his @ss...

Game 7 is going to be great. There is always going to be trash talking, but our 'Canes have to rise above that. I'm happy Staal didn't talk back to Biron, b/c if he did, we are no better than they are...Don't stoop down to their level...

The bottom line is that da boys need to go out and play like there's no tomorrow...b/c in reality, there may not be.

I'm way out in the desert, and I would like nothing more than to go to Raleigh and support my...excuse me, OUR 'Canes. I have a hunch that Carolina will not allow the Sabres do beat them in their house in front of their fans...

All year, the 'Canes have been talking about how much character they have in the locker room...on Thursday, I want to see another reminder of that.

And remember on thing everyone: as Wardo and Wes would tell you (along with some others, I'm sure), it's all in God's hands...Whatever happens is His will.

Carolina, go rip the Sabres and Ruff a new @sshole, so he'll have extra room for his freakin charger...

Since the last time I went through a litany of "games I wanted to win that let me down" we ended up winning Game 2, I thought I would spill the beans on the game 7s that most broke my heart.

In the 2003 NLCS (http://www.chicago-cubs-baseball.com/playoffs.php), the Cubs had the Marlins dead to rights, 3 games to 1. The Marlins won game 5 to send the series back to Chicago for the final two games. In game 6, all miraculous, awful hell broke loose and the Cubs dropped both that game and a hard-fought game 7 to become only the 4th team in history to choke away a 3 games to 1 lead.

In the 1988 NBA Finals (http://www.nba.com/history/finals/19871988.html), Detroit won game 5 for a 3-2 series lead. In game 6, Isiah Thomas's finals-record 25 point 3rd quarter, on a hobbled ankle, weren't enough to keep the Lakers from winning the game by one point, on Kareem Abdul-Jabaar free throws. The Lakers won game 7, 108-105, behind James Worthy's monster triple-double.

I don't think what Biron said is any big deal. More importantly I think it's a very good thing that Staal had no response because if that's all it takes to lose focus and attention during the game, it's all going down the tubes anyway. Trash talking is so much a part of sports that I swear I didn't even notice Biron.

There are $70 LL seats for round 3??? Where are they? Garth is an @ss and a tool and I hate it when the NHL Live guys fawn over him and his "insider knowledge".

Tomorrow is about playing hockey. As E so perfectly phrased it, the rest is noise.

Those of you who are going to the game...

First of all, I envy you. This is easily the most important game ever played in the RBC Center (I say that as a passionate State fan and Alum). Be loud, be louder, and leave it all out there just like the team is going to.

Most importantly, have fun! Games like this don't come by very often...

I'll be there in spirit, if not in body!

You got my tummy going again LOL...

Everything has been setting it off...REALLY bad day at work, and whenever one of THOSE happens, it's usually in the cards to have a really GREAT day the next one, so let's hope that pattern keeps up. I was saddened to realize though that we could be in for all of US screaming and going batty with happiness, or come tomorrow night, we could be in for all the Buffalo trolls and their ensuing happiness. Not to mention the endless hoo-ha on the news about how everyone expected them in the Finals with their wonderful nominee for coach of the year! Well you know what?? Our candidate AND our team are frickin better!!! Sit on it and ROTATE Cindy and Buffablow!!

*rant over, hyperventilation calming*

Well, I suspect Mr McKee will be on the ice tomorrow, but this seems to confirm there was at least some issue with him.

http://www.wgr550.com/

But ya know what? It's ALL NOISE! It's about the game, stupid. :D

EDIT: oops Prospector scooped me.

I can't imagine McKee won't be there P-man. That's nearly impossible to fathom.

Then again, maybe it's an elaborate gag from Ruff, kinda like him making up the champagne story to movitate (successfully, I might add) his team.;)

It is the same station but I'd be very surprised if they put out a "real" story as comedy. The local fans would crucify them and never listen again.

Edit: His name is Jay. I can only hope that it is some mistake. I disregarded the poster on our boards earlier that said McKee was injured but...well...here is a credible news source saying there is a problem. The earlier poster said it was blood poisoning from a skate blade slash late in the Ottawa series. I don't even know if that is possible. Anyway, we'll have to wait for more news tomorrow. Damn, I feel sick now.

Wasn't there something posted earlier in one of the Game threads or something about Jay McKee possibly having a leg infection or something? I thought that was said somewhere and no one really believed it then because it was a "rumor". Should be interesting then to see how this goes, because if the dude if feverish or whatever else, sore; what have you, I can't see him forcing himself to be on the ice.

OK...I'm stopping believing this again now LOL...I'm starting to think of line changes and everything else.

MOST importantly - I hope our guys aren't getting text messaged from god knows who saying "McKee might be out". I hope they are all in some sound proof booth and just get rolled out on the ice tomorrow.

Ruff confirms no Numminen in Game 7

The Buffalo Sabres will face the Carolina Hurricanes in the winner-take-all Game 7 without defenceman Teppo Numminen, head coach Lindy Ruff confirmed on Wednesday.

Numminen returned in Game 6 after missing four games with a groin injury, but was relegated to the bench after playing only 4:13 in the first period before re-aggravating the hip flexor/groin injury.

Someone posted that they thought the Sabres skated in Raleigh this evening (of course, I'm not sure that's confirmed), so wouldn't SOMEONE have noticed that McKee wasn't anywhere to be seen.

The earlier poster said it was blood poisoning from a skate blade slash late in the Ottawa series. I don't even know if that is possible.

If it got infected, it is. He could end up with a clostridial wound infection (myositis or cellulitis) or even tetanus, which has a (min, max) incubation period of 2 to 50 days. All of these goodies have varying stages of pain magnitude, and all are serious.

I hope you're right but I suspect the only thing rotting is McKee's leg. Hamilton is the reporter WGR uses to follow the Sabres. My only hope is that someone hacked their site at WGR....or this is just an ongoing treatment for a n infection he has had but we just didn't know about and he will fly down to NC tomorrow to play in the game. *fingers crossed*

I dont wish anything bad on the Sabres. I want to win the game without any controversey - though I think that ship has probably sailed, docked and unloaded its cargo at this point.

P-man - I'm still thinking something is rotten in Denmark. Would this station really be able to scoop this?

Someone posted that they thought the Sabres skated in Raleigh this evening (of course, I'm not sure that's confirmed), so wouldn't SOMEONE have noticed that McKee wasn't anywhere to be seen.

I hope you're right but I suspect the only thing rotting is McKee's leg. Hamilton is the reporter WGR uses to follow the Sabres. Seriously! I was lurking on sabres.com forums and they were talking about possibly Paetsch instead of Janek/whoever....and a lot of comebacks were made like: "Yeah? With one ankle?" or... "NO, he has a bum ankle"...I'm assuming thats still right...

Whoa...wouldn't that be nuts though...

That'd be a bummer. I was actually looking forward to seeing the kid. Was a bit bummed/surprised when he was sat in favor of Jillson/Janik... but, a bad ankle could explain that....

P-man, pardon my ignorance, but is WGR the station that covers the Sabres games? I'm just trying to picture the scenario and if they'd really be willing to release a 'bogus' story.

Then again - a hack is possibility too I guess.

And I presume the guy mentioned in the story is someone who would certainly be in the know?

MOST importantly - I hope our guys aren't getting text messaged from god knows who saying "McKee might be out". I hope they are all in some sound proof booth and just get rolled out on the ice tomorrow.

They need to play with their hearts and let their bodies do what they know. No thinking about who is across the ice from them - or in this case, who isn't!

I hope our guys mindset is such that they don't give a !@#% if the Sabres just acquired Gretzy, Lemieux, Messier and Rocket Richard. I want them thinking that they can and will beat anyone the Sabres suit up and that they don't care who may or may not be injured.

Paetsch was recovering from an injury. Reports are that he is ready to go but if that was the case I think Ruff would have started him over Janik and/or Jillson in our earlier games. Paetsch outperformed them in Rochester this year.

Yes, WGR covers the Sabres' games but I don't think they would release a bogus story.

By the way, the guy who broke this earlier today on our site is now saying
Like i said earlier when no one believed me its a leg infection....i got an update at 10:30 that they administering shots in hope of it working. He still may play but he was having trouble walking on it earlier, thats why no practice today and he wasn;t at the arena signing autographs

What a bizarre development.

If it's legit - seems like the other outlets would have something by now.

Guess I'll find out in the morning. Best of luck sleeping p-man!

Shouldn't be any trouble. I've already had all the nightmares possible in one night...
