did you guys hear about this one:
http://www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/article.jsp?content=20060623_153924_3904
Apparently Pronger wants out of EDM for personal reason (aka WIFE hates small Canadian town and lack of Gucci store, etc...). It's probably bogus but would be huge if it's true. Personally I would welcome this, we could sign a big UFA for a D-man (guy like Redden out of OTT who is from the EDM area) and then trade Pronger for some serious value (he's locked in for 4 years at $6.25 which is a pretty decent deal).
Anyway...just in case anyone was interested in what's happening to that team you beat in game 7!!!! Hope you are enjoying that cup!!!

^ Wow. "Honey, you might like the 20 other guys on the team, and you might like the coach, you might like the area. But there's no GUCCI STORE! We've got to move."
Unbelievable.

I'd make that deal (not that I think the Oil would go for it ;) ). isn't Hedican slated for hip surgery? Who knows what will happen with him for health reasons. It may not be Pronger, but they are going to have to look at the D for next season. I don't think Wesley will be back, but maybe he wants one more skate around the ice with the Cup before hitting the daddy track.

Remember that there were also rumors (printed in a Swedish newspaper IIRC) that Wallin wanted to go back to Sweden after this year for his family...the Cup win all the more reason to do so. With Ward and Kaberle UFAs, Wesley probably retiring, and Bret with questionable hip, the team will need more than Commodore, Babchuk and Hutchinson to fall back on. (Oh, and Tverdovsky...hoping he finds his way away from our organization...) Such a move for a high-level defenseman would likely be quite smart.

I wouldn't do a deal for Pronger- too much $$$ tied up in his contract, and we have youngsters who need contracts that I'm much more concerned about-
Hedican has a torn labrum in his hip-dunno what kind of recovery that requires, but it didn't sound like it would be an issue-but you never know since he is 'getting older' lol.
I personally like that we have Hutch, Babs( and Commodore) in the wings- I think those two really got lost in the shuffle when it became a numbers thing and they had to sit- they'll want to prove they can be everyday players on this team-- & those two have great upside as we saw this season; I'm inclined to believe that Frankie and Aaron will stay with us-just a hunch- and I'm not sure if Nicky is ready to head back to Sweden, and if he is, that's a tough loss- but it appears that Jay McKee will be available as he has expressed he will be looking at other offers- He might be a fit for us on D, wow, how ironic. And I'll just bring up another name who should fit fine with us- Danny Markov.
There are options- which is a good thing.

I don't care what they do or don't do about Pronger, but I think the D has to be addressed. Hedican's had a lot of health/injury problems and the hip is just one more. I think he'll be back, but who knows what he or Wesley (speaking of the really aged ;) ) will decide. Babchuk is a baby and needs time to grow into the role that will be expected of him and his slap shot. I trust JR to get it done and find the right mix.

I don't think getting Pronger is humanly possible, unless he loves Carolina so much he would restructure his deal (is that legal even?).
I'm thinking a return trip to St. Louis may be in order. But St. Louis doesn't have much to give.

They have the number one pick...which = Erik Johnson (who say is a young Chris Pronger). That would be a big blow to the Oil...but could solidfy their blueline for years to come. Only happens if Lowe lands a big UFA D-man such as Redden or Chara.
Fun times to watch!!! Should be a flurry of activity on draft day!!!

been hearing grumblings the hedi issue is more serious than thought and he might be hanging them up... other outside factors playing in that decision as well... hearing similar things from a couple sources now... so I'm more than a little anxious on this one.... definitely our purest skater and that would be a big loss at this point... he and Commie really seemed to compliment each other this year.... hopefully this turns out to be just rumor....
a name that hasn't been mentioned yet: Sean Hill... if he is to be believed, he would like to return.... I'm not sure he fits in the new system, but I sure do miss him leveling someone and then standing over them....
Can I just say that KAds is the most unassuming professional athlete I think I've ever met? I was scanning across the bar and noticed him.. just as I recognized who it was, we made eye contact. Gave him a wave and a thumbs up.... dude walked across the bar to shake my hand, thank me for the support and talk for a minute... Total class and a great guy.

You know..... this is what I think...
I think this thread is supposed to be a discussion about Game 7 of the Stanley Cup Finals. It's gotten really OT at this point.
There's a thread going on that's about trade rumors. In fact, someone should really start a new thread about trade rumors for the 2006-07 season, so that one thread can contain just 1 season's worth of chatter.

Read somewhere he exercised the option year in his contract with Florida. 'Fraid he's a Panther again next season.

KAds is my favorite player. I've met him in person and he is probably the nicest guy you will ever meet. If we ever trade him or he leaves I will be shattered for a while to come. It scares me that if we do make the trade to get Jordan, then KAds might be the one who has to vacate his center spot.

So is anyone attached to what they wore to that game? The jeans I wore have become my bum around jeans. They actually have holes in the knees and are SO worn and faded. I remember that they soaked up a whole beer that someone spilled above me after Justin scored. We sit in the mezz, so the beer just pooled at my feet (and I stood barefoot, having kicked off my flip flops) and was absorbed by my jeans.....but WHO CARED!
Anyway - it's almost time to toss those jeans. I may have already tossed the flip flops (the dog nibbled on them), and my white v-neck T is already tattering around the neckline. I guess I've still got my Stillman jersey and that will be my clothing momento. I never put it on that night. I'd worn it around my waste while tailgating and then left it there. After we scored our 1st goal, I was too scared to move it from my waist....so it stayed there.

E I still wear the same jersey (K Ads practice) to the games and my black sweater underneath. I have changed the pants after the other jeans stopped working for us this season. I have been wearing the same thing for the past few months.. I have added boots to the mix so if some of you don't know me and see a woman in the parking lot in June wearing shorts and boots..that would be me! :D:lol:
I know by Game 7 of the Finals, there were some stinky people in our section. I washed my clothes between games but not everybody did. I was holding my nose and cheering at the same time.

OMG Caniac. You really revived the thread eh? I just read a few pages and I'm dying.
E, lol on the clothes we wore thing.
I retired my jeans and my jersey (white signed Staal jersey with the SC Patch on it) and maybe I'll put the Staal jersey back out, but it holds so much sentimental value, I just can't put it back on.
Thanks for the trip down memory lane! I started crying all over again just reading the posts.

Thanks so much for finding this thread. It was before my time on this board. I got chills reading the posts made during the game and cried reading most of the rest of it. I was at all the home playoff games. I welcomed the team at the airport the day after Game 6. And of course I was at Game 7. I rate the playoff experience right up there with my wedding and the births of my sons. The most wonderful experiences of my life and I wouldn't have missed it for the world.
I ran across this post from Socal:
The question of Ladd vs Joe isn't even a consideration for me- It's LADD. Joe shows me a big ol' donut. Sergei Samsonov knocked Joe down in game six in a little scrum for the puck- People, Sergei, is 5 foot 8, maybe 175? Joe is 6'5, 230? WTF???? I saw all I needed to see of Joe Vasicek after that 'situation'.
Funny how things turn out, isn't it?

Thanks for resurrecting this thread. It was before my time here as well, although I've now met many of you who posted in it at the time.
I go back and read through the old threads on this board a lot, just because I am still rather new to the team and don't know some of the history that may be obvious to you long-timers. The archives here are a real treasure, you can find out a lot of great (and LMAO funny) stuff reading through the old threads.
I found this thread about a year ago and reading through it at the time, it made me think about how much everyone's emotions mirrored mine even though it was before I knew you all. I was enough of a nervous Nellie during those two weeks I'm not sure I could have handled the collective tension!
I still get a knot in my chest just thinking about it.
Then it hits me - hey - we won the Cup. WE WON THE FREAKIN' STANLEY CUP! And it makes me smile all over again.

It was mentioned in another thread (or maybe this one?) but that "On The Glass" rebroadcast this week on the NHLN got me big time. It was nice to see those others shots of the team and the celebration and interviews that you didn't get with the NBC broadcast.
Amazing.

Thanks for that reminder E. I Tivo'd it the other day or last week, and have been meaning to click on it to watch and have been too dang busy. Some of our friends back in socal watched it and emailed hub and said- "it felt like everything you guys described about that night and it totally felt like we were there with you" they all talked about how much atmosphere the building had compared to Honda Center when the Ducks won and they were in the building last year- and they realize the whole game 7 thing is different from the Ducks going in 5; but they were most impressed with the full on intensity.
Now I gotta watch this...... Mr Socal says "you were THERE you know what everything was like" but at the same time, there are so many things that kind of slip by or I have to be gently reminded of, because, frankly that was easily the most stressful night of my life. (until some guy who wears #11 hit that empty net that is... ;))
LTD- I like seeing threads revived too; Especially when I look at some old posts and read who was the whipping boy of the moment- funny how c-girl managed to dig up my digs at Joe. and somewhere down the line, someone will dig out all my barbs to Frankie. :-

Man this thread bring back a lot of memories, I actually just watched game 7 today. I sometimes still can't believe this actually happened. After so many of my favorite team not winning a championship, it is sometimes still hard to believe that my favorite hockey team did it, but is some awesome that they did!

One thing I remember about the play***s was how I felt at the beginning of the 3rd when the team returned and "Let's Go Canes" was played.. I remember booing Roy Williams  and laughing at the funny people.. like the tone-deaf woman in the ticket booth, the gentleman with the gray hair that kind of re-wrote the song and the "street guy". If we were behind, I didn't quite enjoy it as much. Those memories and feelings are so vivid they almost take my breath away at times.

Happy Stanleyversary (love that phrase!) INDEED.
I have this marked on my work calendar which is a pop up on our internal company calendar- with a pop up of that save on Pisani by #30; so that's what greeted me when I logged on this A.M.
We are going to watch Game 7 tonight after dinner with our friends who were part of the 2006 Tailgate scene when they were actually our next door neighbors in 06.
I was talking to the Pittsburgh nephews on Skype the other day, and they of course are still in the "high" mode and it's all crazy up in PIT. Youngest nephew says, We'll be 30 years out from this time and we'll never forget this. it's so amazing; I don't want the fun to end. I remember saying something like that to Icesaber the day after as we were getting geared up for the parade and laughing about how when we're 80 we'll still be reminiscing about this time.
Happy Anniversary everyone!
