As you all probably know by now the war in Iraq has begun. Regardless of all our differing opinions on this action, I think that it is fairly certain we all agree on supporting our troops. The men and women on the ground and in the air in Iraq are putting their lives on the line.

They need our support. I am praying for them all, and for having as few innocent deaths as possible. I am also praying for the people of Iraq and am excited about the future of their country.

God bless our military and God bless America.

Thank you.

During the Gulf War of '91, people brought back the old tradition of tieing a yellow ribbon on a tree in their front yard. This symbolizes a soldier is away at war.

I encourage all of you to tie yellow ribbons, if you have any family or friends serving. It's a great comfort to those people left behind.

very good idea Shawn. I would do that except the tree in my front yard, a tree I reallllllly love, was heavily damaged in the recent ice storms. Seems wrong to tie such a memorial around a broke, dying, beautiful weeping willow. Or is it aptly appropriate?

Cheers! I have a buddy in Qatar and cousins that could be sent over any time, so you better believe I support our troops!

You can send messages of support to our troops through http://www.OperationDearAbby.net
http://www.defendamerica.mil/nmam.html

It is recommended to use email rather than postal services to send greetings, unless you have a specific person to send letters/packages to (security concerns).

I don't agree with the war either--I think Saddam should have been taken out 12 years ago--but that won't stop me from praying for the safety of our troops (including several cousins in the Army and Marines).

And mikus, there is a time and a place for everything--and your comments are not only rude, but you know that they're going to draw flames. You know better than that, bro.

Well said, Cam. Basically, this is not about anyone's feelings about the war. Please take those kinds of things to other forums for discussion. Here, we would prefer sensitivity and respect for the people who are over there fighting and their friends and family who are back home hoping and praying that they come home safely. Please respect those people (many of whom post on this board) and post your anti-war statements elsewhere.
I know that Mikus feels this way because his parents and grandparents were Latvian refugees. He feels more for the people of Iraq and what they might be going through. You will never convince him to support this war. So let's all leave this stuff away from this board, and agree to disagree on this matter.

Let's talk some hockey! :)

i understand that you want to supprt your troops now cause it's too alte now to stop the war. ok, but imo that shouldn't take place in a hockey forum.
i know i opened the iraq thread on the old lgc.com, i didn't really think about it cause the war was still far away from me

Once again, I stated we all have differing opinions. I stated that I and others hope our troops come home safe, and that as few innocents get killed as possible.

So what is your beef?

I made it clear that this thread was not the place to post opinion on what was happening.

This is an American hockey forum, and MY hockey forum, so I can decide what needs to be going on.

Oh BTW, the General Discussion forums are going just fine. Maybe if you would venture in there once in a while in between Irbe picture threads and the Ladies Only thread, you'd see there is hockey discussion going on.
