The N&O's Canes blog is reporting that the Canes have signed Trevor Letowski for third line center duty. He's another Mite sized guy, but may be able to make an impact.

Interesting. From the blog they're indicating he'll be the missing winger on the third line. Ill be curious to see the numbers on him and wonder how this will affect the possibility of Recchi coming back.

A remote possibility but one thats nagging since there's been so long with no news of him leaving/staying/etc.

If this is the signing, I love it. Very high-energy, balls-out guy like Cullen. Can play anywhere up front and — if we continue our trend of guys having career years for us — we can expect right around 20 goals from him.

Hurricanes agree to terms with Letowski

RALEIGH, North Carolina (Ticker) - The Carolina Hurricanes on Thursday agreed to terms with free agent right wing Trevor Letowski on a two-year contract.

The deal is worth $800,000 per season.

The 29-year-old Letowski collected 10 goals and 18 assists in 81 games last season with the Columbus Blue Jackets, leading the team in games played and shorthanded points (4).

In 480 career games with the Phoenix Coyotes, Vancouver Canucks and Columbus, he has 73 goals and 102 assists.

I like this signing- I have adopted the Blue Jackets as one of Western teams- mainly cause I love the city of Columbus- and also I'm a big Rick Nash fan, so I've watched alot of BJ's games on FSN-OH - and I am a fan of Letowski's game. He's got that speedy Cullen/KAds thing about him, at times last year, he even played on the top line because the Jackets were decimated by all those injuries-and they had called up a bunch of the kids in Syracuse --and he did well. He definitely fits the Laviolette mold- and would fit in nicely with the style of play- I think for fans who haven't seen much of him, they'll think huh?? with this signing- but seriously, I think people will see prototypical Hurricane tagged to him pretty soon.

A quiet pickup- not flashy or anything- but one that I like.

As some of you have already said, this is one of JR's under the radar signings that no one will notice now, but everyone will talk about later. So I too love this signing. Letowski may not score as much as Cullen but very similar players though Letowski a bit smaller and for the price the signing is even better. Great move JR.

This should prove to be a decent pickup for the Canes. He's a grinder and should make the impact as the third line center. Welcome aboard Trevor!

Agreed. Letowski plays like Cullen, and is a very good shorthanded-scorer. Good acquisition by the Canes.

Since Trevor has played Center, maybe Lavi could go with Whitney, Trevor and Chad on the 3rd line and the Adams Brothers on the 4th line and play 7 D like he did most of the regular season. That way we don't have to worry about whether Josef is going to be playing well, or not.

Just a thought! :smoke:

I was on NHL.com the other day and was looking at getting a personalized jersey and saw that if I chose to order a Letowski, it would be with the number "10." I'm guessing that ain't going to happen seeing as that number is proudly displayed in the RBC Center's rafters-- any idea what Letowski's new number might be?

No idea...perhaps the cursed #20? He might take Cullen's #8, too. #15 is the only other available number that's close.
